So, considering that the plot seems the same as the survey leak, it has Cassandra and who I thought might be "The Iron Bull", with Morrigan and Varric as a bit of a surprise, and the protagonist looking quite a bit (from what we could see of him) like the survey leak concept art... How confident are we about Cullen being a companion?

I don't think any of us are 'confident' that Cullen will be a companion. I'm calling it "cautiously optimistic" and tossing in some weekend voodoo and blood magic to help along.

I'd like him to be, but I just wonder if they would really have a Seeker AND a Templar in one party since they're essentially the same thing.

yeah, the trailer doesn't change my skepticism that he'll be a companion. If Cass is a companion, indeed, they don't need him. If she's not, sure there's a chance, but I think a small one. I'm still voting NPC.

Yeah, unless they give Seekers different powers. Was it only in DotS that they said the Seekers were just highly skilled Templars pulled out of the Order for exceptional reasons?

That being said, we definitely stand more of a chance of getting him as a companion/LI than we originally thought, when I first joined this thread we didn't think we'd see him in the new game at all.

Hey, I just saw in another thread that on the Sword of Truthiness picture, the protagonist has a ring on his thumb, but you can't see what it is. You guys already caught that, right?

It's one of those things where my greatest hope is that he'll be a companion, but then I'm still expected them to go and kill him off in the first ten minutes of the game. If they don't, well, then that just means that it can only get better from there right?

Then again, I tend to have really low expectations when it comes to this stuff. That way there's no disappointment.

I guess it depends on what the writers/combat team decided to do with Seeker specialisations really. Mind you, there were threee returning characters in DA2 (Anders, Merrill and Isabela), i'm pretty sure Morrigan won't be a companion since 1) she was romanceable in DA:O and 2) there's no way you could fight properly in that dress! 

That leaves only Cassandra and Varric as potential returning companions, and even then Varric might not be.

With well over a year left in devving the game, I'm pretty sure there must be more VO going on. I can't imagine that long and all the voice acting is done. But I'm no dev so fwiw.

With Cullen and Cass...it may also depend on their viewpoints abt what's going on. Maybe Cass is all gung ho Chantry! And while I imagine Cullen to still be "faithful" idk if he will express the same gung ho..iness.

It depends on what's happened w/him. Perhaps even what he has discovered. Maybe he found something out abt the Templars, or the Chantry--the Divine even that he sees as corruption.

Or at the least it disillusions him.

then we'd have two very diff viewpoints abt these organizations.

I'm still holding onto my fantasy that

A) The Warden and Hawke cameos are as corpses. That trailer with Varric all sad would work with my sick theory.

Morrigan has now been inhabited and IS Flemeth.

Cullen and Cassandra can co-exist in my fantasy world with different skill trees. It would work better if Cullen were no longer an actual "Templar".

Oh man!  There you go. Simplest solution yet. Duh!  Why didn't I think of that?  Cullen's skill tree? "Fallen Templar" where his skills only work part of the time and t he results are unpredictable because he's not on lyrium anymore... Oh. yesssssss.

Has it been confirmed that Cass will be a companion? She could very well be an NPC with a big role like Anderson from ME3. It's probably unlikely due to all the spinoff stuff she's had (girl got her own cartoon!), but it is possible that she won't be a companion...unless I missed something and she's been confirmed.
I agree and don't think that Morrigan will be a companion. I'm thinking more of a puppet master role for her. Varric, well, I'm on the fence with him. I don't know what to think. As for Cullen, I'm going to play the optimist and say he'll be a companion. No idea about his LI status. I'll be disappointed if he's not a companion, but it won't make or break me. It just means I'll read more Fanfiction and draw more headcanon art if he's not.

True, his storyline and POV couldn't be more relevant given the circumstances. It's just the fact that he's a templar and technically so is Cass... mind you, if Cullen isn't a Templar anymore then maybe they'll just play his specialisations as just warrior skills instead? Or visa versa.

Naw, they haven't confirmed her as such, she just seems like the obvious choice given how much attention she's been getting what with DotS 'n' stuff.

It's possible she could be an npc though, I mean she's technically as important as the Warden and Hawke since she's the hero of Orlais so really she's TOO experienced to be running around taking orders from a noob, lol.

I think the reason those three were specifically choosen to be in the trailer was simply because DAI looks soooo different that they wanted to bring some familiarity into it, to show us that it's still a Dragon Age game and to show us how much the graphics have improved the characters facial features/textures/etc.
