Here's a thought, what happens to people when they dream if the Fade has torn open? Would their "souls" fall into the real world like some weird lucid dreaming thing? Would it be more dangerous since the demons can now access you directly? Or less because they now have direct access to the real world, thus no need to bother trying to possess people while they sleep?

Aside from the comedic possiblities, I don't think demons would really be interested in possessing anyone if they can drop into the "real world" directly. Takes less effort on their part, and they're probably more powerful in the normal forms. 

It seems likely that the tears in the Veil are something that's a result of someone deliberately bringing demons into the mortal realm, rather than the Fade breaking open at a certain location and dreamers wandering unknowingly into it. 

It'll be interesting to see if they address that though, for sure!

Hehehe, exactly! A bit distracting to have confused souls pouring through the skies mid battle, complaining about interrupted orgies and such.

What about the good Fade spirits? Will they be poking their heads out too from mere curiosity? I know they have no interest in people and their flaws, but something like that would seem like an equally big deal on their side of the tear.

It'd be neat to see some of them jumping in to fight the demons, depending on the type of spirit it is (like virtue, faith, justice) If the demons don't need to posses mages in order to function, I don't think the spirits would either. How awesome would it be to see a purely spirit/demon battle going on!  We know that some of them do take an interest in the betterment of mankind, and w/out a human host to corrupt them they would certainly be on their side right? The spirit in Wynne remained untainted (as far as I know, still have to finish Asunder)

Well, I've been to lots of delis that had no cakes. I've also been to delis where they served muffins and pretended they were cakes. It's a sad, cakeless world out there and I'm sure glad this deli sells cake on the side.

I can relate to this analogy, though! It's like when I worked at Starbucks and nobody ever ordered anything but vanilla bean or strawberry Frappuccino's (hint: zero coffee in either of those).

If that happened to people who were dreaming in the Fade while asleep, it could happen to the protagonist and any of the companions (except for dwarves?). How odd would that be?

I would love to see that. To have spirits fighting with the protagonist would be great too (Justice was a brilliant tank in Awakening).

With this Fade tear and demons and possible spirits flooding Thedas, it makes me wonder if Cole will make a return? I think he would make a really interesting companion as a dual wielding rogue.
