I romanced Alistair. I also romanced Zevran, although I liked Alistair better.

I used to have a serious thing for templars... before DA2. I *love* clean-cut guys who understand duty and responsibility. (swoons) I don't like people who abuse their authority and betray the trust of those they are supposed to protect. Cullen seems to take his obligations seriously.

Honestly, given Alistair's importance to the central plot and the ease with which he could be "accidentally" romanced, I think you'd be challenged to find someone who played a female PC who didn't romance him at least once. I don't think that will tell you anything about Cullen fans... as I try not to guess what kind of "theory" might be brewing. <_<

I dread to think, I know he's an Alistair hate though lol... blaspheme!

R2's Muse, would you be able to swap Cullen in for Hawke in that scene where Isabela invites him/her to joing her up in her room at the Hanged Man sometime? I know you have a real life and stuff, but if nobody's done it yet that "awww yeah!" grin could be super amazing. Image IPB

If I'm thinking of the right scene... the one in the Chantry after you meet Isabela and  you kill all those dudes for her? Sure, I'll try it. Stay tuned!

Yeeeaaah, even more reason to punt on this one. It's kinda like asking who your female PC romanced in BG2 (hint: there was only one option!) and then forming a theory.

I'm testing a theory here. Who here didn't romance Alistair in DA:O?

I dunno about the other girls but I romanced the sh!t out of Alistair!

What's your theory? I'm curious.

I romance Alistair.

Every. Single. Bloody. Time.

Seriously, I start a new game, attempting to ramance someone different, and I end up getting into the sack with Alistair.

Me: "Hmmm, I've never romanced Zevran before. I think I'll see what his is like"
Alistair: "Here. Want this rose?"
Me: ". . . . Suuuuuure "

ARGH! He's just so much like my own boyfriend, romancing anyone else literally feels like I'm cheating on him!

I know precisely what you mean. I could not romance Zevran until I made a male Warden. *Then* I could romance Zevran because Morrigan doesn't really do it for me and Leliana incites me to homicide.

Finally! Someone else who likes her!

Y'know, if Cullen had been a potential LI in DA:O, Alistair would have had some SERIOUS competition on his hands to win the heart of my Amell Mage Warden ;-)

My Warden would certainly have had a thing for Templars . . . even more spicy giving the fact that she's a Mage.

But those two are Mage sympathisers, so does it count?

That would have been really tough, but I still would have gone for Alistair because Cullen wouldn't have experienced everything he has done if he had been a companion in DA:O/DA2. It's his development through both games that makes him the perfect candidate for a companion now... Anytime prior to DA3 would have been too soon to take full dramatic advantage of.

Hopefully DA3's female voice won't grate on my nerves as much as female Hawke's voice did, I found it near impossible to play as a female in DA2 because she always sounded so condscending and a little too posh for my liking and I desperately want to romance Cullen with a female Mage protagonist!

Here's a new question for you all:

In DA:O all the "sex scenes" were based outside in him (with exception of the dark ritual) and in DA2 they were set inside Hawke's mansion. For DA3 would you prefer them to take place outside or inside? Do you think Cullen's sex scene would be better taking place inside or out (based on his personality.) What type of environment could you see the scene being set with Cullen, for example, indoors by the fire/in a tent/in an abandoned hut in the forest/in a library/etc.

I'd personally like his sex scene set in the Chantry At night, under that giant statue of Andraste with all the candles (kinda like the one in Kirkwall) just to symbolise him breaking his vows (especially if it's with a Mage protagonist!) I could just imagine our protagonist finding him in the Chantry one evening looking to the Maker for guidance about his wavering faith in the Templars and he's forbidden feelings for our character, only to end up spilling his thoughts and feelings our PC, resulting in a sex scene... Of course we wouldn't see anything dodgy, it would all be very pretty with strategically placed camera angles etc.

My theory is that "Cullen fans" are only fantasizing about a Cullen romance because they want to continue to romance Alistair, without jeopardizing the fact that Alistair is with their warden. By the amount of Alistair fans here. It's either that, or killing mages/being a religious fanatic get's them all going.

Uh . . . . no.

@LolaLei

I'm not too wild about the love scene taking place in the Chantry. It just doesn't seem like the most appropriate place. Maybe in a house somewhere, or an inn if they're on the move. I can imagine that Cullen's gone AWOL with the Chantry since he stood up for Hawke. (I'm going by my playthrough where I sided with the Mages)

As surprising as it may be to some, Alistair is actually a very popular character. Some may also be surprised to learn that people are capable of telling the difference between vaguely similar personalities. Alistair and Cullen do share a few personality traits. Both are awkward at times, gentlemanly, and devoted to doing the right thing as they see it, but they are not identical. Alistair, for example, doesn't actually have a problem with mages and doesn't actually like templars very much. Cullen is humble, but when the situation demands it, he does not hesitate to assume a leadership role. Cullen is less self-aware than Alistair, but he does not need to be reminded where his duty lies. Alistair appreciates humor greatly. Cullen might have a sense of humor, but he has enough self-control not to let it show when he's on the job, as it were. We don't really know what Cullen is like during his leisure hours. For all we know, he might be as enchanted by fart jokes as Oghren in private, but I, personally, have a hard time imagining him snickering and saying "Pull my finger." With a few ales in him, he might. He strikes me as the kind of guy who loosens up to an embarrassing extent when intoxicated.

So yes, there is probably some overlap between the subset of gamers who like Alistair and the subset of gamers who like Cullen, but there is also some overlap between the subset of gamers who like Cullen and the subset of gamers who like geraniums. That doesn't mean that all Cullen fans like gardening.

If it matters, I happen to like Anders very much. That doesn't mean that I want Cullen for DA3 because Anders is taken.

Edit: @LolaLei: I could imagine Cullen being overwhelmed by his feelings (and associated organs) and consummating their relationship literally anywhere... as long as they didn't have an audience. He doesn't strike me as a "public display" kind of guy.

Just adding in that Cullen is not portrayed as a religious fanatic

He has some lines that make it clear that he believes in the Maker and Andraste's teachings, but that makes him no different from other religious characters, including mages who happen to be religious or believe in the Maker & Andraste (note: Bethany is a devout Andrastian). A fanatic is someone who unwaveringly pushes extreme religious views down other people's throats. We never see that kind of behavior from him.

For that matter, he is hardly even portrayed as a mage killer, despite being a templar. In DA:O during the male mage origin story, if the male mage asks "I thought all templars liked killing mages," Cullen responds with, "(Sighs) It is my duty.  Some templars I know discuss such things with glee. I don’t share their enthusiasm."

Throughout DA2 he is shown almost entirely in a managerial role and only engages in combat twice: while aiding Hawke+party after Templar Wilmod is possessed by a demon during Act 1's "Enemies Among Us" quest, and while aiding Hawke+party during the final battle with Knight-Commander Meredith. Odd as it may be, his onscreen record is zero mages killed versus two templars killed.

Very believable. In DA:O he struck me as someone who blurts out whatever has a strong hold on his emotions. Add alcohol and subsequent loss of inhibition and --- whooooooooooooo --- he's likely to blurt out all sorts of embarrassing things.
