They could do them as a special marketing/publicity thing and release one a week prior to the games release in the shops.

Seeing as how low the sales for DLCs of companions' story often are, I don't see them making more anytime soon. I do like your idea though. That would be a good way of building up the hype. I kinda want Cullen's storyline to happen in prison (a little S&Mj/k). My vision of Cullen is that he's an exile templar. As much as I like Varric, I hope we get to see new characters instead of the same exact companion in the next game.
If they made them short enough they could sell them extra cheap. Or they could do little machinima style videos for all the companions depicting their story/situation then put them up for free on the website for people to watch, kinda like that one a bunch of fans done for Fenris based on the short story the writers wrote for each companion in DA2.

Yeah, that would be nice if they release short videos. It wouldn't cost too much. My personal preference would be that they release it in the form of comics. They would generate extra buzz by releasing companions related storyline as well as allowing Mr. Gaider not to rush the storyline to fit it in the videos or DLC since the costs and the risks would be a lot lower for comics. These comics book could tie together to the main plot, leading up the the part where we encounter them in the game.
Yeah, I'd actually buy those!
I'm sure they've got something similar planned since they usually do something entertaining to introduce the companions in each game.

Can we talk about Mae? I really don't know that much about her. She's a transgender woman, so that means that she used to be a man, right? (And here is where my ignorance will show and hopefully I won't offend anyone.) Is she a man that just dresses like a woman? Or did she have parts removed? Or did she drink a magic potion and it turned her into a woman?
If she's transgender, she's a woman, period.
I'm not sure what she is biologically speaking... not sure he goes into that...?? Not sure it's my business, haha

Wouldn't it be cool if DAI had DLC like Leliana's song, one for each companion, during which you'd get to play as each companion going through their own personal story/situation prior to meeting the new protagonist. It wouldn't even need to be particularly long either.

I guess what I'm asking is how do you become a transgender in a medieval world where there are no plastic surgeons or hormones that you can take in order to change your body?

A man who dresses as a woman is a cross-dresser which has nothing to do with transgender people. As for the parts removed, I don't know since I don't believe he goes into that in the comic. As motomotogirl said, she's a woman period. She's not a man who dress like a woman or a a man who wants to be a woman. She's simply a woman. As Gaider wanted Mae to have a non-curvy body type during the design phase, I don't think there is such a potion to turn people into the other gender.Chanda wrote...

That would be sweet. I hope at the very least they do short stories again, or something. They def need to jazz up their marketing roll out from here on in.motomotogirl wrote...

Seriously, they need a cool way to introduce us to the companions. I'm hoping for something minimally more exciting than a simple announcement.

Love her. Love this pic. Love to see her again.Battlebloodmage wrote...
I love this picture of Maeveris. She looks amazing. Unfortunately, her creation was too late for her to be included as a companion, but I would have love to have her in the party. She's pretty awesome in the comic.
Of course she's already a snazzy dresser in the comics, but this outfit makes me think she could fit in in Val Royeaux, say, in the new book?? Although I would expect her to show up in a DG penned product instead.

I am not an authority in this matter but I'll make an attempt. First you have to differentiate between sex (physical characteristics) and gender (social roles/how you identify yourself). The term "trans" implies change, going beyond, hence there is no overlap between the two - sex&gender (as opposed to "cis" where there is), and you can have two possible scenarios: being transsexual, i.e. when you are changing your sex to match your gender identity, or being transgender, when you keep your biological sex but your gender identity is changing, i.e. you were assigned male sex at birth but you identify yourself as female, and that's the way you behave, dress etc. You can see that Mae is not just dressing as a female, she identifies herself as a female, and for that she does not need to undergo any physical change. Hope it makes senseChanda wrote...

I agree that Mae is a great character and I so would wish for her to appear maybe as a temporary companion or at least a quest giving npc. And I also love this picture of Mae, thanks for posting it BBM

The comics do not say, except that she is a magister officially recognized by the Imperial Senate in Tevinter. I would guess that means she's from there... but I don't know what it takes to be recognized.LolaLei wrote...
Is Mae actually from Tervinter? Or did she just move there?
