I don't think there are checks, at all. If you can talk to them, you can romance them (and you can talk to anyone, so...). At least, this is how I understand it. Does anyone know if a romance gives you a sex scene? Because that would actually be kinda gross... 

Oh, and there's no doubt we're talking about a child.

I agree that I see him as believing very firmly in the Circle as a method for managing the mage situation. At the end of DA2, he was overthrowing Meredith, and saving the surrending mages, because of her actions -- her abuses of power -- were not what the Order stands for. Not because he thinks the Order is wrong to put mages in Circles. I also agree that he would still view fraternization within the Circle as wrong...

However, we have to remember that post-Asunder there are no Circles any more. So what happens to all those rules? If he doesn't have oversight over a mage, is it ok to get involved with her? And angst!  

Ha, true! In my head he's like one of those cops who are never off duty, because police work isn't what they do it's what they are. ALL mages are his responsibility, he's a Templar through and through. Similarly, I think it's more about duty than trust. Romantic feelings would interfere with his ability to do this divine duty of his and that just won't do.

It's a bit funny how little we know about him, yet this thread is absolutely massive.  

LOL... and there you have your Questioning Beliefs quest, in a nutshell. 

I always think of him as a hardcore rule follower, so I like to imagine what he would do once those rules become murky. What is his duty to the random formerly-apostate mage he encounters? He no longer has jurisdiction over a mage, so the ethics of the icky power differential when fraternizing with a mage are moot. But indeed, romantic feelings would potentially compromise his judgment, perhaps even making him more protective...?

I always go back to this notion of whether he'd be able to switch his focus from the needs of the many to the needs of the few. He and the templars have routinely curbed the rights and freedoms of the individual mage, as well as suppressed their own individual needs and freedoms, all for the greater good. Then, what if he falls in love? Can he put the needs of that individual above the needs of the many? Should he?

I really should write something about that one of these days...

I've tried not to spoil myself, but I believe your beloved comes running out at some point after being captured. You embrace, and there is a fade to black scene. Nothing even close to DA or ME, but I think a night of love is implied lol

LOL This is the one thing I know about this game... it's the one where you can "accidentally" romance a kid.

Well, you can pick things up and throw them... if you throw a barrell of explosives, for example, it explodes. You can throw people, too... it hurts them.

Maybe. I guess for the everyday fan (not obsessed forumites like us), it's too early to start getting people hyped up.

I mean how many people are going to get excited about a game they weren't originally a fan of... and then stay exited for a year and a half lol

True, although a few more details wouldn't go amiss. There are a lot if people who aren't a fan of The Witcher games but its company released loads of info.

... Mind you, it is half based on the books so I guess it's not like we couldn't find out what happens anyway.

Okay, I'll probably play tonight 

Some things to note: 

1. Don't stray from the road the first time you leave your village and head for the Encampment. If you do, you may miss Reynard, and he will be gone from the game forever. Even if you don't want to romance him, he is a traveling merchant, so you'll miss all his stuff. Plus he's just really sweet!

2. Don't advance too far in the game before completing Quina's rescue quest. Someone from your village will contact you and say Quina's missing, blah blah blah. DON'T TRAVEL to Gran Soren without doing her quest. You'll miss it, and you'll miss your chance to get an Arisen's Bond. Yeah, that's like a wedding ring lol WHICH I MISSED.

So FYI if anyone out there has an Arisen's Bond and would like to make me a copy....

Didn't realise how important the quest at point 2 was. Missed it too! So I am now having to do the Duchess quests so I can eventually make an Arisen's Bond. When I am able to (may take some time) I will make you a copy!

My Pawn is an ultra hunk. I made him just for something nice to look at; while I changed up my Arisen I kept my Pawn, Vigil, the same. I just changed his class to a mage since my Arisen is a warrior in this PT.

I'll have to try Ser Maximilian sometime - so far, I have only romanced Julien and I plan on pillaging...erm...romancing Valmiro next. He's such a sweetheart.

BTW how do you change the voices in the game? Because Juien's voice...blagh. XD

Julien's voice sounded a bit like a really bad Orlesian accent! Or it could just be my hearing!

You can bring up the Japanese voice acting under options on the main/title screen. You can't do it in game. I like the Japanese voices, switched it today.

I have the subtitles on. I do like some of the English voice acting but some of the accents are awful/grating. I makes me appreciate how great the voice acting is in DA and ME.

So. I had an interesting dream. It was a long realistic one where it was like I was the star in a slasher flick.

I had a crazed up stalker sending me gross dead things and vicious threatening letters, and he showed up one time in the window, looking boney and depraved wearing a see-thru masque that reminded me of Jason's hockey masque combined with Hannibals..

Cops couldn't do anything. It was scary!!

And I had "friends" that insisted on being stupid by going out and not taking it seriously. I just knew they'd end up dead.

It all kept up along the same path.. then the path diverged, and there was like.. a high school marching band procession past my window... with live action versions of the Dragon Age males.

After pushing my face up against the glass in confused delight, I woke up.

Let's hope the Orlesian accents aren't going to be THAT bad! Although...the duke's son in MotA was awful. I think they did that on purpose to make us hate them. XD

During game play, hit start (like you're gonna save), go to Options. Tab over one to Audio/Visual. Change "voice language" to Japanese. You will not be disappointed.

Reynard's cute Japanese voice just makes me want to do naughty things to his squishy little body 

And Ser Maximilian is just... well... Rrrrrrrr! is the only way to put it lol So stoic and manly. Yet so deferential. BOW TO ME, MY HANDSOME KNIGHT!

I want for DA:I male LI something like Reynard and Maximilian, with Cullen fulfilling the Maximilian role (knightly, loyal, serious, kind, etc.). And the other LI I want to be cute and fun-filled.

Oh YAY!! I may stall my playthrough so I can wait for you to make a copy. I am actually using Thomas right now. I like how deep and manly his voice is 8D 

I think it is quite pricey to forge, so I can always send some expensive crap along with Thomas to "pay" you back for it lol
