Ups, it seems I should read all posts before I start to reply with my not-so-fresh comments :] I like angst in games as long as we are not forced into it all over the place, so if there is at least one happy path for my pc (may be very difficult to achieve, I don't mind), I love exploring all the uncomfortable choices. To be honest I would like as much variety as it is possible since it gives more choice for role playing. Hence having Cullen die in particular circumstances would be fine with me. IHe doesn't need to die though. I could imagine many different scenarios in which he would have to sacrifice his life as it was or his personal happiness. I can see him doing doing it since he so much about serving greater thing.

Edit for ToP: Thinking about all those angst inducing scenarios gives Cullen a headache

I agree. While I think a mage romance would be the most interesting in many ways with Cullen, I doubt they'd spend resources to make class-dependent content like that just for a romance. I could see an option for any LI to take the killing blow for you, tho. I personally never did the US in DA:O, but I hear it's very dramatic!

On the Amell romance, I think you bring up a potentially sticky point about his inclusion as a romance. Not because I think it's clear that he was actually involved with Amell (because I don't think the game supports that it was more than an unrequited crush) but because there are lots of Wardens that headcanon that it did. I think his mentions of Amell in DA2 make it seem like he remembers her fondly, like many do with a first crush, but I would hope that it wouldn't be treated as more than that moving forward. But who knows...

Everything depends how it would be resolved. If he cherished her memory without talking about her all the time then I'm fine. Even though I like his infatuation with fMage and don't mind the pairing in ff, if he is a LI in DAI I honestly hope he moved on. He brings so much baggage with him, that past yet still present love would be an overkill.

Yes, better said! I mean, sure a crush/ infatuation/whatever is fine... but don't go on and on about it! That would extremely awkward. My concern, however, is more that the writers would avoid making him an LI altogether because of that potential awkwardness. I think they did it well in DA2, tho, so I'm hopeful.

As for the question at hand I think it would be fine as long as it's an optional dialogue tree. The problem I see with Cullen and the Amell romance is that the developers have to balance how much they either don't mention or do mention, too much and it's still a romance with Amell, but too little and they're missing out on a great chance to show how much he's changed. I mean this was his first crush was a forbidden romance you can't really forget about that but you can't really focus on it either

Well the romance occurs independent of whether you played as an Amell or not. Whether she is alive or imprisoned is all we really control if we import a different origin.

I mean I doubt they'll put it in but if it did show up I wouldn't be entirely surprised.

On a side note you guys think that Varric will be a companion or just a bigger part of the story? I mean I'm not entirely sure what roles he and Morrigan will play. I'm sure Morrigan will have a huge part but he isn't really that significant now.

well tbh i would like Cullen ofc ( i guess thats kind of a given  for me to expect that since i became freaking obsessed with this character) but if he would be the 1st one i dont want him to become a red shirt and be killed like all the other 1st companions in BW games  so i guess in that case i will take Cassandra just to be safe

Yeah Amell crush (not romance) doesn't occur if Amell/Surana is a male, and in all my playthroughs, no matter what origin I choose, he is male

And yes, you do forget and move on from your first crushes by the time you reach Cullen's age; trust me, once you are in your 30s, the stupid stuff you did in your teens and early 20s, all those sad angsty tears you cried, it's all pretty much just a laugh.

Cassandra seems like a good choice. Was Aveline or Varric first last time? Depending on who might influence the decision.

I would love her to be, for your sake alone  

But the trailer made me think she won't be. She will be too busy leading armies and such... I can't imagine there ever being a trailer of Aveline leading armies or something. How can Cassandra be as powerful as she is and then just fall in line as a companion on an adventure. Also, she will be nearing 40, and that probably makes developers nervous (never mind that a majority of gamers are mature).

Hmm, I don't think that I would say that the Amell or Surana crush happens independent of having an Amell import. For example, those extra lines in Cullen's DA2 codex only happen if you do the appropriate import. I would expect the same for the DAI.

On companion reveal.. gah, I have no idea. I go back and forth on whether Varric would be a companion again. I'd vote against Morrigan. Cassandra probably. Maybe we should have another pool...

My recent PT was with a dwarf import, and I spoke to Cullen a lot. He never mentioned Amell, nor was she mentioned in DAO when I rescued the tower. But with my Amell import, yes, I got the extra bits in DAO, as well as the "remarkable woman" dialog in DA2. So I don't think it occurs independantly. 

I'm really hoping Varric is a companion. He was fun to have around in DA2. I just wonder if with so much spotlight on him with the comics, BioWare may say "nah, let's go with someone else." But we shall see! Think his personality might change due to the circumstances?

I don't think Morrigan will be a companion. She might be on the sidelines making things happen like Flemeth...if Flemeth hasn't taken her body, that is.

the thing about Varric  being a companion again worries me because for example Anders in Awakening  use to be pretty fun and come DA2 he was very very diffrent and very little humor  thats why i worry about Varric that he may become something like Anders and not so much fun as he use to be but more serious and bitter about the events that are happening...

Oh, I know most of my daydreaming will never happen but it certainly helps to pass the time. Such a long way to go still. My romantic brain never saw the Amell thing as just a crush. For it to be mentioned in Origins, Witch Hunt, and DA2 just struck me as kind of odd. I suppose it could be seen as a fanservice sort of thing. For my game, which included the dark ritual, Witch Hunt takes place close to a year after the end of Origins and for him to care about her still by that point after not seeing her since the Circle went crazy....it just says more than a crush to me at least for my playthrough anyway. Or I'm in denial. lol I'm a hopeless romantic. There's no hope for me, really.
