Yeah, I guess the way Sebastian was written, it felt like more like they weren't quite finished writing him when the game had to ship. So they slapped together as much as they had done, and were like, "Here. He's not quite done, but you might as well enjoy what we had time to do. Oh, and by the way, why don't you pay us a little extra for it." In comparison to Shale... if she was more fully written because they had more time... I guess I still then wonder why she was DLC...

Well, so long as you bought DA:Origins new, you receieved the Shale DLC for no extra price. And the Seb DLC was included w/ the normal price if you preordered in a reasonable amount of time. I don't love release day DLCs for the sake that if it's already available to be put in the game at the time of release, then it should be included as I'm already paying for the game. Dragon Age has a really good history of having workarounds for not having to pay extra for Day 1 DLCs though, so I'm not too concerned.

Maybe Shale was like Javik in ME3, always supposed to be in the main game, but locked out and turned into DLC for extra money?

Is that the story with Javik? Hmm. Just seems to me that it would be more hassle to have to add in extra code to deal with the fact that a DLC companion may or may not exist in your game. Although, I suppose there are plenty of followers you could accidentally skip, so maybe that is built in already.  *sniff* Don't like the "just to make more money" reason for DLC. :crying:

Oh you guys, come on! There were LOADS of little comments slipped into her dialogue that pointed to her being "female" (as if "feminine" = "female"). She calls coins pretty, says "Lovely" a lot, even asks if the crystals make her look fat. And her voice, while masculine, is super campy. It was annoying!

I wonder what fraction of people pre-order, tho...? Day 1 DLC always feels like a pre-order incentive to me. I don't believe I pre-ordered DA:O, but I don't think I paid for Shale... so that's a good point. With DA2... I think I did pre-order. It seems like a lot of folks are going into 'wait and see' mode for DA3. I wonder if that will affect their Day 1 DLC strategy.

That would make sense. I don't think EA gained control of Bioware until they were just about finished with Origins. They are notorious for their DLC policies.

Well, she was female at one point. It would make sense that some of those personality traits would stick with her even in gollum form. She also talks about wanting to smash people's faces in, because "that's a girly thing to want to do?" In fact, she argues pretty adamently that she is no longer any gender, she is a gollum and that's all that matters.

I didn't mind the slips of humor about being feminine, and I thought her VA did a great job. There's those characters that can be polarizing to each person though, so I can see where you're coming from and respectfully disagree.

The Dragon Age: Inquisition twitter are asking the following question:

Everyone with twitter jump on there and tell them you want Cullen to come back as a companion/LI. We shall not be ignored (LOL!)

Honestly, I thought she was just a camp male. Most of our gay men in the UK say things like "lovely" a lot.

They asked the question on FB, too, if anyone wants to double dip. ;)

I honestly didn't notice anything about Shale until after it was revealed she had been a woman.

As I recall Shale was a part of the game but was torn out and then put back in but not quite in time for release so they started giving it out with new copies. She was supposed to be in Redcliffe as I recall.

Sebastian I recall was supposed to be Nathaniel but with all the "retcons" they thought it better to make a new character.

Ah, right. Forgot about Nate. Heh, given how little DA2 knew about anyone's game state with regard to Nate's deadness, I find that very ironic. I'm sure BW does, too... given hindsight and sufficient time. LOL

I'd never heard that about Shale... altho the Redcliffe part rings a bell.

Hey, you wanna know something funny about Shale and Redcliffe?

You know how if you complete the Arl of Redcliffe questline, the knights Isolde sent out start filtering back in and you can talk to them? They have a variety of stock responses, like "It is truly the Maker's will you found the Ashes" and somesuch. (I don't remember the exact words.)

One of their responses is a "Good day, milord/milady" depending on which character you control when you click on them. One day I experimented a little and determined they will pick the feminine response when speaking to Shale.

Insightful, those knights of Redcliffe. :P

Yeah, I got one, too. Skippable after 5 sec. Also on your earlier vid.
