Yea I think most of the Cullen fans would prefer not to kill him regardless if it was important to the story. At least that what I think idk I could be wrong but ya it would be nice to be given the chance to save him like with Anders

BW is got me walking on eggshells some times in regards to how Cullen will be written in DAI sure DG said he has a nice arch and "good" potential and what not but sometimes I wonder as to what extent he will expand that arch will it be in a good way or in a bad way to give more "amo" to the hatters to hate him even more

Hard to say. They may not bother to expand it at all since DG said that the Cullen fans have essentially backed them into a corner with how much/how little they can do with him now.

It could be that our "over enthusiasm" has ruined his chances of ever being granted a companion/LI role, not to mention anything more than a cameo.

Sure.. but in that case they shouldn't even include Varric Cassandra or Morigan for that matter cause im sure their fans were enthusiastic about the characters they love so why "punish" Cullen for that?

Surprisingly, Cassandra and Varric's fans aren't that vocal. Morrigan has already been a romanceable companion, which is why her fans are loud, but I highly doubt she'd be a companion for a second time what with her potential kid 'n' stuff.

I'm not saying he won't be included, since we already know from GE (and DG) that he will be. I just meant that he may not have a particularly big or interesting role, which could be partly his fans fault.

I really doubt the fans have much influence one way or another. DG has already said that he likes Cullen's character. If he shows up, it's because the story warrants it. If not, not. DG's comments about the pitchforks I don't think is Cullen-fan-specific, given what he has said since the trailer came out. He says that sort of thing about all the fans.

I would be disappointed if Cullen wasn't a companion and LI, but I think I would only throw a fit and flip tables if he suddenly turned into a sexist douchbag arse who talked about his potential other love interest like she was some kind of object and that having her in his line of sight 'made him work better'.

....No, I still haven't recovered from how ME3 made me suddenly despise one of my favourite characters.

Thankfully, I'm still on the optimist train. If he isn't an LI, though, I think I might be quite fond of Dorian if he's still in the game, so I have choices! Then again I always love the majority of Bioware's characters except Joker anymore, so I'm sure my Inquistor will find someone to fall for.
