Huh, well here's an interesting read... or not, depending on your interests.
http://dgaider.tumbl...ove-of-twilight

I'm not aware of where the original (mis)quote occurred (edit: Apparently it was from when Fenris was announced), but personally I think it's nice for someone to call bullsh!t on the excessive hating that often happens when folks never bother to read the original source they're hating on. ...and in the interest of full disclosure, I'm also a Twilight fan... proudly wearing both my 'runs with vampires' and 'then buffy staked edward, the end' shirts. :P

edit for ToP:

Twilight isn't really my cup of tea, but I can see why people like it. I'm pretty sure I would be gushing (hur hur) over Edward Cullen if I was still a teen too! I totally wouldn't compare DA's romances to Twilight though.

Ander's romance was a little Edward-y. "I love you, noooo I'm dangerous - get away, I can't live without you!"

Though please don't anybody confuse my saying that with saying that either of those are necessarily bad drama. Just similar drama. Image IPB

I think the similarities were drawn because you had Anders who was like "I love you/want you but I'm dangerous and I'll only hurt you" and then Fenris who was kinda broody like that wolf-boy. So I can see where the comparisons could be made, from a shallow point of view.

I'd have chosen Jacob too.

Except that he wasn't in love with Bella, he was actually in love with one of her gametes. Image IPB

I would technically call myself not a Twilight fan, but I did read all the books in one week while I had the flu. So if I'm honest with myself, I must have liked them a little or I wouldn't have read the whole series.  Image IPB

Wolf-boy really wasn't that broody, though. He was kind of normal. Image IPB

I think DA and Twilight just happened to have the misfortune of both being popular at the same time.

The same way that the whole "Harry Potter vs. Twilight" debate popped up, when except for being popular YA books, the two really had very little in common to make a proper comparison or make them rivals at all.

I enjoyed the books but after the first movie I was like "Is this girl capable of expressing emotion or is she just gonna make that weird stuttering noise or just stand there with her mouth open like she's about to say something but actually won't until about 5 minutes later, if at all?" Kay.

DG made a few comments in the Fenris support thread and tbh I can understand where he's coming from. Even if you are not particularly fond of the story it is valuable to understand the success behind it. Not a Twilight fan myself, but admittedly I haven't read books, just watched the first movie and absolutely hated it. Could be due to the quality of the latter though :]

Sorry.

LOL I'm there with you! I will admit... I was a Twilight Mom for a while after I read the books. Team Edward all the way. But I also see their limitations and can totally understand why some folks really dislike them. I never liked Kristen Stewart for Bella, but thought RPattz worked. Rather well. Ahem. :D

Anyhoo, I'm hoping the whole Twilight craze dies down so folks can stop comparing any new romance story to it, for better or worse.

Speaking of other yummy celebs, I'm watching Immortals right now... and boy,  if Henry Cavill wasn't so good looking... I'd have turned it off.

Hmm.. I've only watched a snip of one of the movies. Enough to say that it probably isn't my thing, but that's as much of a judgement as I dare pass.

On a swedish gaming forum where I'm a member, we had an awesome thread about the embarrassing things we enjoy. For me it's stuff like Bruno Mars and Starship Troopers (Best. Movie. Ever)..

Henry Cavill is just glorious. ONE of the reasons I went to the movies to see Superman. :)

Indeed! And it only gets worse when I tell people why I love it (terran vs zerg won't even get hot guys interested, never mind my party loving female friends).

I find the Twilight series very poorly written. I've tried to pick it up but couldn't stomach the writing.

As for the romance, I have no real problems with grown women reading the series (though I do wonder at their taste level... snark! :P And trust me, I've encountered women far more intelligent and literate than me reading these books! Like a professor of feminist theory even).

I do have a problem with young girls reading this series... same with the Hunger Games. But I doubt anyone wants to hear about that :P

Has anything new and exciting been revealed by GI today? I'm swamped at work but thought I'd take a quick peek.

Do you think so? I never read the books or watched the movies, so I usually stay out of any discussions where game romances are compared to Twilight. I do understand the concept that it's easy to mock the "I love you, noooo I'm dangerous - get away, I can't live without you!" thing, but if that's what Twilight is about, it's hardly unique. When it comes to romance themes in literature (or other media) it's probably one of the top three. Its goodness or badness lies in its execution, not in its presence. Personally, I loved the Anders romance because it was so extravagantly corny. Every moment of it. And it made sense. If I'd never allowed myself to be in love before and suddenly found myself in that situation, I probably wouldn't be able to express my feelings in a very creative way, either. Probably the most genuine lines are the purple ones, where Hawke throws something unexpected and unromantic at Anders and he has to react to it in his own words. But I still often pick the green ones... because "sappy" amuses me. Trite? Absolutely! But so are most things, if you break them down far enough.

What's wrong with Bruno Mars and Starship Troopers?!? :P
I guess I'd have problem with listing my guilty pleasures since I have no idea what would be considered guilty...
