So... if the Chantry decides to take some heat off of itself (and we all know they're not always the most rational group to work with), they could easily point the finger at the Inquisitor and without any rationale whatsoever besides "she survived" suddenly make us out to be the bad guy.

Or not.

This is so interesting!!

So now I'm wondering if there really is something special about our character, that he/she survived and no one else did (dibs on "Flemeth" being the answer, LOL!). Maybe we don't even know why we survived until the end.

The Chantry seems like it's only made nominal efforts toward reaching the elves. In DA:O there's only that one Chantry sister that comes into the Alienage and none of them seem to even know her by name. The sisters in DAII hang out in the Chantry all day and the only time they talk about the Alienage is to say how disgusting it is.

If you allow Brother Burkel to share the Chant in Orzammar, the epilogue card says that the dwarves convert in large numbers. I can see why, especially if he's reaching out to the Casteless. That could be an interesting dynamic in the next game, since even if Burkel never gets to stay in Orzammar, it shows that the dwarves are ripe for the picking if the Chantry wants them.

Really want to see how the Chantry is related to the big hole in the Fade, though.

Of course! Flemeth saved the Warden and saved Hawke. I will be SO DISAPPOINTED if she doesn't save the Inquisitor! :o

Me to I don't know why,  but her saving you, Bodhan and Sandal traveling with you and having a dog are all things that would disappoint me if they were absent.

What is dog is replaced by horse/mount? I want a bronto.

Well I would have said the same as those posters er in my own less hostile way before we saw any of those videos since it is such a leap. Maybe it's telling that we're in opposition rather than straight up enemies?

Yeah it's a bit confusing. I'm curious if maybe an organization of powerful individuals have been working to cause the tear and the leader/source is at the heart of the Chantry?

This is what I think. I think the word opposition was chosen very specifically, since they repeat it so many times (well a few!) . You can be opposed in your goals but not at war with each other.

Agree, especially since we already know they've said so many times (even lately, since things do change) that we can choose our alliances (especially with regard to the Chantry).

But "opposition" must mean something since they keep going on about it. And people shouldn't yell at me for pointing that out. Image IPB

They definitely shouldn't yell at you.
I'm wondering if the Chantry will turn up straight evil, neutral but in the way or just incapable/unwilling to be worked wiyh.

You know, I feel like an idiot, but this just came into mind...

With effectively three factions of the Chantry out there, what if no matter which path you take, you're at odds with one of them?

Obviously if you align with Justinia's gang, Lambert's gang may be at your throat (and vice versa).

The Imperial Chantry may want to work with you, and if you refuse or work with either of the other two Chantry factions, will work against you.

Choosing not to work with any of them could result in the Imperial Chantry working against you, if not either of the other two factions as well. Because desperate times, right? So no matter what choices you make, you're still on some form of Chantry sh*t list.

Huh.

World of Thedas book explains the Chantry and other races issue somewhat on page 118.

Nonhumans:

"The Chantry began and has continued to be a predominantly human organization. Other races are seen to be further from the Maker. The elves have their false pantheon of idols. The dwarves worship themselves. The Qunari are worst of all, actively crushing worship of the Maker and desecrating Chantry values in the name of the Qun. For these reasons, other races are considered all the more worthy of saving. The Chantry believes the Maker wont return until even the Qunari sing his name"

Oooooookaaay. So the Chantry are akin to the Protheans. You can become one, but you'll still be viewed as primitive slaves.

I will have so much fun trolling them.

I kind of agree with R2 in terms of the Imperial Chantry, I don't think it is going to be a factor in Inquisition,  but I agree that we're probably gonna wind up on the Chantry's ****e list.

At the risk of pointing out the blatantly obvious, the Chantry is in a bit of flux at the moment. The Divine might have been ousted - dead, imprisoned or fled - and the current organization that is calling itself the Chantry may be one *nobody* in their right minds would side with. I imagine even the most avid Andraste fans would not mind opposing Lambert and company (if he's still alive). If the Divine is not dead, I could see Cassandra joining up with the inquisitor if he or she agreed to help rescue the Divine and restore the Chantry to her control. Of course, there are a few players who think Lambert's got the right idea, so it's possible they might offer an option to hunt down and eliminate the Divine in order to secure his undisputed governance of the organization... which could also be said to be opposing the Chantry.

In other words, there are a lot of ways this could play out that would still make Mark Darrah's statement true.

Sorry if all this has already been covered before! Like I said, no internet for two days. I'm way behind on the discussions.

So the Orlesian Chantry starts falling apart and southern Thedas is in chaos when a big ol' hole gets opened between our world and the Fade and you don't think the Imperial Chantry might be interested? Just might? Not saying they will, but you don't think maybe they might?

R2M usually has much better intuition about this stuff than I do, but I personally would see that as a wasted opportunity on Tevinter's part. Image IPB

And thanks, berelinde! I think you may have explained some of my thoughts better than I did.

No worries. I'm interested in finding out if Justinia does survive the opening of the game. I've been working on the assumption that she dies at the start, but mayne she is just forced out. Maybe someone like Petrice is "crowned" and it turns the Chantry into as you said something nobody in their right minds would work with?

It's a tantalizing Da'Vinci Code esque situation

I certainly think they would,  no doubt, but I think their attentions will be further explained in the hypothetical DA4 rather than here. I think Dorian and the Iron Bull will sort of represent it as a part of their characters,  but that Tevinter in general will be more involved with the Qunari.

I certainly think they would be involved if the Qunari weren't still focused on them.
