I'm pretty sure she was the writer for Anders, and because of his changes in DA2 and what he did at the end that people were attacking her, and blaming her for the plot that they didn't like. Whatever the reason, it's completely inexcusable for fans (or anyone) to behave like that.

Hepler  makes a good point in the Polygon article that experiences like hers might discourage other women from going into the field. Stay the course, littlenikki!! :crying:

Agreed. Making death threats really? Especially towards her children? That's just sick.

Is today "Bash the Cullen fans" day or have I missed something?

social.bioware.com/forum/1/topic/371/index/17153490/3

This is the second person that says something against the fanbase. I spoke my mind with the first one but geez .... Wow, I think I really need to take a break from here, where people think one fanbase is better then the other.

I feel bad giving a book three stars in Goodreads when I don't like it because I'm afraid the author might see my comment and feel hurt.

I can't even comprehend the hatefulness and inhumanity some "people" have displayed here. She should file law suits against them or certainly report every one of the death threats to the police.

Read someone comparing Cullen fans to Justin Bieber fans.

I left all of my wat's behind.

Still don't know where all these crazy, loud, beat-you-with-a-stick Cullen fans are.

Take a look at the names. You'll see that a lot of them repeat themselves. Perhaps they think that if they repeat the same thing often enough, it will end differently. There are very few actual haters. They're just very loud, and very persistent.

I'm tempted to ask the poster to provide links to the crazy, loud, beat-you-with-a-stick Cullen fans or STFU. But that' won't end well, so I'll just fantasize about it instead.

Oy vey... I suppose I could experiment with "what does the Report button do now?" It used to do nothing... But now? Who do I report fanhate to these days?

Everytime someone asks where these claimed fans are, there's never a reply anyway. :|

The report button does work, but the way the ToS are worded, the post has to target a specific individual.

I just can't think of why these kids (they have to be kids, or else adult males with childlike minds) hate Cullen so much. Cullen is a very well-written character with quite a bit of potential. Even if you are a staunch mage-supporter, it's hard to deny that he's a very good character. (Case in point, I'm always pro-mage, and I love Cullen).

It all boils down to misogyny; they see a character like Cullen, and his mere existence in the game is proof that women have power. Women want Cullen; Devs give them Cullen. "NO FAIR, STUPID FANGIRLS, RAWRRR!" scream the angry man children.

Of course it does not really go down like that; if Cullen is in the game, it's because the writers felt he needed to be there. And vice versa if he's not there. But we all know that.

I mean sometimes we're abrasive even mean, but not enough to really warrant the hate we get. Maybe there are non-thread posters who are REALLY loud about their adoration, but for the most part we keep to ourselves.

I'm not sure you can reduce it to simple misogyny, although your assessment of their maturity is spot on. It boils down to entitlement, "My wants and needs are more important than other peoples'" and delusion, "The game should validate my preconceptions." Yeah, a huge chunk of that is "Boobies!" and perceived threats to masculinity, but it isn't only a gender thing.

That's a good point, especially considering how not all those who hate Cullen are male. But I definitely think the ones who accuse the Cullen fans of being insane and raving, and then who also accuse BW of "catering" to the "insane fangirls" do so because of misogny... yeah, even the women who say such things, as they're unconsciously buying into the same mindset, you know?

Until I see a civilized and friendly, mostly male group of fans victomized the way we are... I'm not changing my mind :P

p.s. Danny you know I'm talking about just 1% of the male population here; I love most boys, especially you *puts Danny in affectionate headlock*

@moto: I don't know if I'd say "victimized." That implies that there's actual harm done. They're calling us names. Silly, inappropriate, and misinformed names, but that's still all it is. They're the ones frothing at the mouth, so it's pretty fair to assume that undecided readers can spot the BS.

It literally happens maybe once or twice every six hundred pages. It's like a character flaw sometimes we lash out. I'm not blaming anyone, it's just we're not perfect...no matter how much I like to think all of us (even you berelinde <3) are.

Didn't mean it in a mean way :(

I know lol, I <3 you to. Btw everyone please don't take what I said as a...slant or jibe. It's meant more as a personal examination.

here is another article

"Jennifer Hepler left BioWare this week to begin work on a book
about narrative design and do some freelance work. Her most recent job
title was senior writer onDragon Age: Inquisition[/i]. But it was Dragon
Age 2[/i] that led to the death threats, the threats against her family
and children and the harassment."

http://www.polygon.c...-support-groups

The fact she was being threatened at all is disgusting, but...

"...threats against her family and children"

What. The. Fuuu--

This is why law enforcement needs to take crap like this more seriously, if it's over the ~internet~ or not.

I just.

I give up. The Bioware fandom is full of complete and utter trash

I'm a lil confused, tho. I remember when these jackals were attacking Hepler. It was back before even ME3 came out. So, she's just leaving now? Maybe it's when her contract was up? Also, from what I saw it was mostly on Twitter. Or at least I didn't see any threats like that on the BSN. There are however other gaming sites that truth be told are far more vile.

Either way, I couldn't agree more that both law enforcement and corporate heads need to take legal action abt these things. They absolutely must! Ppl that do this sorta thing need to be tracked down and held accountable. Period. It'll make the world a better place for everybody. Not just the person being attacked at that moment.

I'm so sad to see Jenn leave. Truly. Ugh.
