I think the main plot will be under the guise of being the Mage/Templar rebellion, but something bigger and more dangerous will happen as a result of people not paying attention to this bigger problem, due to them all fighting amongst themselves. Maybe something to do with Corypheus and why our Warden and Mage have disappeared.
But what if you actually beat him in the Legacy DLC? Sorry if this is an obvious question, but would that mean he wasn't actually killed?

This is going to sound very random but bear with me... do you remember that old 80's Flash Gordon movie? Someone makes a comment that Ming keeps all the tribes at war with each other to keep them from warring against him. So I think that Lola has something with her theory. Mage / Templar war keeps the people occupied so they don't see the real threat creeping up behind them.
classic misdirection.
Thats my theory too, it's kinda like the DA team are throwing us diversion tactics, so we won't realise the true threat until its on our doorstep.

Plus, it's also a heck of a lot more interesting than just a plain ole war story, IMO. I'd love to see the ramifications of the Corypheus escaping. Gah, Legacy was so great. May have to go back and play it again...LolaLei wrote...

EPILOGUE FROM STRATEGY GUIDE, P. 271 (via someone who typed into a forum once upon a time)
In closing Hawk story, Varric reflects on his friendship legacy. We learn that the champion has since vanished or else the dwarf has no desire to let on what he knows.
So what does the future hold? The mage/templar crisis has drawn battle lines, setting the scene for rebellion and persecution. Religious purges and expurgation from the Chantry, but news of Kirkwall may incite other circles to rise up in revolt.
Perhaps more intriguing, is there a reason why Hawk is now gone, like the Warden, as revealed by Cassandra in the final scenes? Do the Champion and the Hero of Ferelden have more in common than we know? And what do the mysterious seekers of truth have to do with this? Will some kind of inquisition be at the heart of events of the next Dragon Age title?
Finally, is it safe to speculate that Morrigan may play a major role in future events? Flemeth cryptic explanation for her journey to Sundermont (A bit of security should the inevitable occur. And if I know my Morrigan, it has already has.) may refer to the Warden battle with Witch of the wilds--or perhaps, an artfully conjured facsimile--at her furious daughters behest. Flemeth, less we forget, was discovered to have achieved a form of immorality by periodically appropriating the bodies of numerous daughters throughout her history. Then again, with Morrigan carrying a child infused with the spirit of the archdemon in one likely narrative eventually, it could be so much more...

It's implied that Corypheus possesses either Janeka or Larius at the end. If Larius accompanies you, it's pretty obvious something happened to him. He loses his Blight-maddened speech patterns very suddenly.MissRedZelda wrote...

(Smacks forehead) And that implication went completely over my head! I sided with Larius during that DLC. Janeka reminded me too much of Meredith at the end of DA2. Crazy and psychocotic.

To be honest, I never noticed the first time with Larius either. I thought that Corypheus' influence had cleared his mind and that's whjy he was forming proper sentences again or something. I wasn't impressed with the Legacy DLC at all prior to realising that Corypheus had possessed Janeka/Larius because it just seemed like a completely pointless tacked on story, but once someone pointed it out to me I gave it some thought and realised that there's a high possibility that he's the reason why the Warden and Hawke have disappeared.
It also reiterates in my mind that DA2 served as the plot set up to DA3.

Yeah I'm not big on war stories, I know the blight was a war but they weren't human (anymore) but even though that was the main plot, there was so much going on inbetween that it didn't feel like your typical war based game. If DA3 is simply all about the Templar/Mage rebellion and/or a possible war between Ferelden and Orlais then I'll be pretty disappointed... However, I have a feeling there's gonna be something much bigger and more interesting going on that we won't realise until all hell breaks loose in-game.
I'm almost convinced that it'll be something to do with those ancient Magisters and the veil breaking.

We've got the architect and talking darkspawn mysteriously spreading the Blight throughout Ferelden. We've got that business with Corypheus and the possibility that the fall of the Golden City was literal truth. We've got red lyrium and Grey Wardens in the Free Marches, and that just happens to be the crucible where global war started.
Brace yourself. Whatever's coming, it's going to be big.

I'm hoping there won't be any more Blight threat stories, I think they should expand on the whole Golden City/Black City thing in terms of actually visiting it/them or getting to travel into where-ever Morrigan went in the Witch Hunt dlc (which would be a reason to bring her back for a cameo as she could help you/tell you how she did it.)

We've also got the hints from Sacred Grove about going back to a time before the Veil and bringing back the dragons and all that. That could just been Yavanna trying to be cryptic, or could hearken of a time when the Veil is sundered (again).
Of course the downside of all those stories was that, except for the red lyrium and maybe talking darkspawn, they were all optional... along with OGB as well. But, I would love to see a lot of these threads brought together, even if some of them are only side quests in DA3.

Yeah, I also wasn't so keen on more Blight stories... til I read the Calling. Now I'm fascinated with what the bigger picture is regarding the Darkspawn. There were so many hints in that story that our understanding of where the Blight comes from is flawed. I keep hoping that they'll explain that more, which of course relates to Corypheus's story.LolaLei wrote...

I'm also curious what the Grey Wardens were so anxiously doing in Kirkwall, but I'm not necessarily keen on playing one again.

1 - I've just heard from an unnamed source that the current earliest release date is summer 2014.
2- We're almost caught up with the Isabela thread!
I'll be back later when I'm done baking these Shrinky Dinks with my son.

Something I would like to see in DA3 is more interesting Taverns, even if it's just more drunken people talking rubbish, the odd bar fight and being able to socialise, get drunk and hit on your companions lol. Also, there should totally be a bard in there singing badly and we can be like "Cullen, show him how it's done!"
Love this!

I'm not trying to rush them, and I was thinking it could be no sooner than fall-winter 2013 myself, but I'm a suspicious sort. Is it to accommodate the next gen consoles or are we back to the "moved everybody to SWTOR" reason?

They have that Command and Conquer game coming out in the Fall of 2013 I think. As for SWTOR I will NEVER understand why they released an online game with a LEVEL 50 cap.
If thats far away, they really need to give us a free dlc with a story that leads up to DA:3 because 2014 will mark 5 years since Origins and 3 since DA:2.
A Machinima Trailer/game announcement at the VGA Awards will NOT cut it. They need to generate interest in the game.

Is this unnamed source someone who's working on DA3 currently?
