As for our protagonist being a Grey Warden, it's interesting but somehow does not go well for me. It just ties too much with the first game and also puts you already within one important faction. I thought that the whole deal was that you were starting pretty neutral and then made your alliances. However much I love GWs I don't want my inquisitor be one. Also being the sole survivor does not mesh with being GW to me. But hey, I can be wrong.

Edit: have a Cullen

Hey, moto, I owe you a beer. You were right about that second thread being nothing but pure misogyny. Dude feels threatened by any discussion about a dude when there are only two hot babes on the table.

(sigh) And people wonder why I get cranky.

Hey Cullenites.
After seeing the latest video, and noticing the Sword and Shield guy with the dark beard, I'm wondering if Cullen has a place on the companion roster. The guy with the beard looked pretty much exactly like the Grey Warden concept.

TBH, I wasn't counting on actually having that Grey Warden as a companion, so now that it looks like he is one, and he's sword and shield, do you think Cullen will also be a sword and shield companion? Seems kind of redundant to have 2 sword and shield guys, especially since I'm sure the Inquisitor can be one. 3 tanks in one team?

Long story short, I'm having a flicker of doubt that Cullen will be a companion after seeing this update.

Probably not, but oh well lol.

Okay, going back to the survey, it says something about a "desperate gathering in the name of peace becomes the epicenter of a magical blast that decimates the Leadership of the Chantry."

Leadership of the Chantry is in Orlais? Correct?

Maybe that's where all starts? I'm just throwing idea around here.

Nobody made us any promises. If Cullen is in the game, that would be awesome, but if he isn't, we can console ourselves with the knowledge that everyone on the forum hates us he was at least under consideration.

Agreed. If we're supposed to start off "impartial" then it's likely that we won't be part of any faction to start with. Tbh I think some of the devs Inquisitors are just wearing the armour because they probably pick it up in-game for crafting and stuff.

Well, I guess if he isn't then the haters will at least shut up about it... after they'd got their smug digs in. Wankers. <_<

I was thinking the same, that they are using resources available at this stage of development. Still, it's possible they will surprise us big time.

Uhh, apparently I am not very observant cause I had to rewatch the vid to notice him. Oh well, I guess we have to wait till all the companions will be revealed. At this stage, he can be a placeholder or new incarnation of Cullen, though I would never expect him to age that much

But we still would have to be some kind of "special snowflake" like you said, lol There has to be a reason why we are tasked with forming the Inquisition.

I'm still holding out hope. Perhaps with the longer development time, we will have a larger pool of companions. Perhaps enough to pick and choose our favorites instead of being "forced" to choose certain characters that we may not like in order to have a viable team.

For example, lots of people complained about not liking DA2 Anders, and since he was the only healer, non-mage players were "forced" to bring him along in order to have healing support.

Maybe they will give us multiple of the same combat archetypes so we can have a viable team full of our favorite characters.  This is my wild dream anyway. =]

I think the concept of where they're going with DA:I's combat is exactly where I want it. DA2's pacing with DAO's strategy. Something between. DA2's combat toned down in speed. I noticed in the video they had slower animations almost like it had more weight behind it. When he came out of a roll he had a delay in getting up. Possibly because of heavy armor penalty?

Anyways, the concept is great. One thing that bothered me in the video is when they used the AOE fire magic it brought flashbacks to DA2's dysfunctional camera. It was so freaking hard to AOE target as a mage in that game. Especially in real time.

True, but they'll find an actual companion to hate on rather than speculating that Cullen might be.

Pfft, I'll take your word for it  No interest in visiting that thread now. Isn't it sad how our lady parts intimidate them so?

If the character they're showing is grizzled and if he does have the sword-and-board slot on the roster, I'm kinda wondering who the male romance options are actually going to be. We've been ruling out Varric all this time, but they're kinda running out of options.

More mature LIs never bothered me, but if our characters are as young as they have been in previous games, I don't see a lot of players sharing my preferences.

Yea, that sucks. It worries me when major writers/devs leave like that in the middle of development. If she had a role on a companion then it's possible whoever takes the writing responsbilities will now fragment that personality. Making it feel really incomplete. She was a senior writer so I'd say that's a fairly big loss on the project.

Well, if Cullen isn't a companion/LI... which sadly seems to be increasingly unlikely, then I'll take Varric. If he's not romanceable then I dunno, I'll just have to play it by ear lol.

i am with you on that, since I like what I see so far. I hope they will give less enemies but more demanding ones. Also, hope they will bring z axis, cause some effects on leveled terrain looked horrible and targetting from the stairs was equally awful, AoE in particular. Wondering if they will give better camera view... they are pretty quiet about it.

Did you guys see on the new video at around 2:45 at the top right of the screen it says : Adamant - Pursue Knight-Commander Cullen. Shows it at 3:00 also. And the guy is fighting soldiers on that scene, not corpses or darkspawn.
