I am choosing to remain optimistic, but remember when David Gaider said that they might end up destroying people's mental canon/ fanfiction.  
He could be laughing gleefully with the knowledge that Cullen will have to be put to the sword.

But I will choose to believe that he's going to play a major role in the Inquisition, if not a companion.

That picture isn't the clearest. When I watched it at high res and enlarged, it was pretty clear on the Knight Commander part. And I definitely made out a Cu---n.

I have it enlarged and in the high quality and still don't see 'Cullen', so I am sticking with that it probably is someone else. I mean, you have Varric and Cassandra with you in the beginning, chucking in Cullen as well that quickly would seem like over kill on the returning characters.

Randomly generated appearances modded over our actual companions so that we don't get any spoilers. Nothing looked distinctive about that guy's appearance and I will be SUPER surprised if we have a green-haired companion.

Just a theory, though! As mmg said, now is the time for them. ;D

If that really says Cullen im sure we wont recruit him emidietly after Cass and Varric Im sure it will  be maybe somewhere in the middle of the game maybe? That is.. if he IS  a companion at all...
I know i was super excited in the beggining  but for some reason now im kinda doubtfull after i saw the brearded GW

It could be an N with a period at the end. The blurred period could look like the horizontal line of an L.
