So after reading everything you guys have dug up during the night its Speculation Time!
We start at the warden fortress of Adamant. There is where the veil is thin and that's where the breach in the veil will happen. Right on top of the Abyssal Rift!

Flemeth will save us.

Our other companions will show up there AFTER the rip in the Veil, because they have business there. Cassandra is looking for the Hero of Ferelden (a warden!) Vivienne is traveling there to look into the research about reversing tranquility. Varric is following Cassandra around as a hired hand (though he might be doing business).
Wild speculation: This place, a really old fortress upon really old ruins (?) on the side of the abyssal rift, could have been base built by Inquisition after the first blight and then the Wardens took over and built Adamant on top of that during the second blight?

Here we meet Inquisitioner ghosts, we find stuff about the original Inquisition and it makes us decide that a group like that should be reformed to deal with the threat.

The Lion fortress can be Adamant fortress. The rift can be on the other side/angle. The lion has scaffold around it. Some cult has taken over the place, building the lion?

I think the developer only loaded up the Venatori to show it as an example of an enemy type and how to combat.
I think the lion fortress is not the castle on the mountain from the concept art talking about our home base. That home base is also not Adamant.

Jennifer Hepler went on maternity leave around a year ago, so I don't think she has done as much as the other writers. Her work has already been passed on. It seems they swap around sometimes.

But even if he just loaded them up it is still a "mystery" why the Tevinter are there. Aren't we supposed to stay in southern Thedas? East Ferelden to Orlais? Tevinter is in the North, so where are the Tevinter slaves/warriors/gladiators etc. coming from?

So either we are going more north then we assumed or Tevinters are coming down south for some reason.

As Wiedzmin quoted a few pages back, there is part of Tevinter that falls within the big red circle Mike Laidlaw drew around the parts of Thedas we would visit. So it's not necessarily ruled out that we would go there. But it also could follow that they just come south and engage us in Orlais, or wherever.

Either way, I think you guys are all right that he just called those dudes up from his toolset, or whatever.

I feel bad that people think Cullen is too old to possibly be a romance option.

I don't consider mid-30s old and I'm a far ways off from that myself.

Too old? WTF? I'd prefer LIs in their thirties. But then again I'm a bit weird and have always preferred older men.

But seriously? People think Cullen is too old to romance? ... I hate to bring up Mass Effect in the Dragon Age forums but wasn't Kaidan like 35 in ME3? and Garrus and Thane older than that? (I know they're aliens but still, Thane had a teenage son, and Garrus described himself as being "old" (not elderly but no spring chicken), and they were popular romances).

I love older men, I really do. I had a crush on Sean Connery for the longest time B)

So older men?

I am all for older men too. :wizard:

Though it really is silly that some think Cullen is too old to be an LI. He's younger than my brother and I sure as hell don't consider my brother an old man yet.

LOL "Older men" It's also not a given that a thirty something Cullen would be older than our protagonist. If we're THE Inquisitor, leading a group of important people, we could very well be in our thirties ourselves.

Also... notice the interesting difference, that we don't keep hearing the same thing about Cassandra being too old to be a LI. She must be about the same age as Cullen given that DotS took place in 9:22. All we know that in 9:40, she's "not 40" according to MLaw.

Really, I think it's people just attempting to come up with a 'logical' reason not to have him as an LI or companion. For all we know ALL our companions will be over the thirty mark, though. I can't picture a magister like Dorian, if he's in the game, being too young and the same goes for beardy warden. He definitely doesn't look in his twenties to me. And Varric isn't in his twenties either...

I would actually be elated if everybody (well, Inquisitor and companions anyway) is in their thirties. It just makes more sense in my head for them to be. I get the feeling Sera is in her twenties though... call it a hunch. Late twenties, maybe.

Good points. I wonder about a magister. I realize I just really don't have much of a sense of what it takes to be or become one. I always get the impression that the magocracy in Tevinter is about blood as opposed to be a, erm, self-made man, as it were. So sort of like the racial bias against muggles almost. So... then would you have to earn your place as a magister, or do you just get it by  birth ? It does seem that you need more power to work your way up the ranks, tho. Hmm.  So, take Mae, for instance. How senior (i.e. old) do we think she is?

yeah, I could see that with Sera. It's probably because the word "brat" was in her leak description. LOL

OH, and young. ^_^ "Sera is young, frenetic, and a brat through and through."

OK... so one person we haven't really seen sign of is Cole. Of course, we still have no idea what things from the leaked survey will end up being incorrect, but let's go with it for now.

Here's his description.
Cole:
A long time ago, a young man died a cruel death in a dark place. And now,
somehow, there is Cole. Was he a spirit of a demon? Is he human now?
Cole’s not sure it matters anymore. Hounded by memories that aren’t his, invisible
in a world he can stalk like a shadow
, the rogue must decide between
joining the living or preying on them.

You know, we keep making jokes about how we haven't seen Cole yet because he's a ghost/invisible. Or at least, I was thinking of them as purely jokes, because I was imagining Cole would have to be, you know, visible at last in order to be a companion. I'm noticing now, though, that his description specifically says "invisible." LOL Huh. How's that gonna work??

I personally always thought Mae was in her early to mid-thirties, and while that isn't old it isn't prodigy young, either? I suppose I just have this thing against people being in truly high up positions when they're an age that doesn't seem quite right for it, but the Dragon Age lore could easily prove me wrong on that. *scratches chin*

LOL Yeah. It also says that she has her own network, though, so it always sounded to me like she was still at the top of her particular mole hill. Even if she's not old age-wise. I dunno.

Maybe how the barrier between the waking world and the fade has been sundered will change that? Or maybe he'll be a temporary companion if we cross into the fade-- would he be visible in the fade? Maybe we're the only ones that will be able to see him because of how the viel tear works/how we survive it and everyone else will be wondering who the hell we're talking to?

Yeah, she doesn't really seem like an ingenue in her first season. Although she was a looker. Hmm. Yeah, I think I'll have to go do some more reading on Tevinter.

Phasing in and out would be pretty damn neat, though I have no idea how that would work in game. I could see how it might work for cut scenes, but not so much for actual battle-- not all the time, at least.

I wonder if Cole sees the world differently because of his situation? I haven't read Asunder just yet to see if that's mentioned (I'm actually starting on Asunder right now!), but for some reason I imagine him seeing much like Bilbo/Frodo do when wearing the One Ring.

Hearing about the veil rip in the beginning and how we're the only ones that survives, makes me kinda anxious about companions ....

When I was lying in bed yesterday I was thinking about all the info we've gotten earlier and then I remembered the companions and how it was all lower level. I mean you got what, like 2 levels or so when you played the origins in DAO?

If I start the game and I have someone in my party I like, maybe even someone from the other games like Varric. I'll probably put down the controller and think long and hard if I really want to play that game, lol.

I'm really hoping we're just getting some redshirts.

I feel the need to nitpick and point out that it wasn't so much the red shirt that signified a death in Star Trek, but the fact that they were a 'random ensign' as I named them. After all there were plenty of red shirt survivors and important red shirts.

Now, with my Star Trek nerd set aside...

That does worry me, as well, actually, but at the same time I don't believe they would treat characters like Varric and Cassandra the same way they did Ser Jory, Daveth (why couldn't you survive, you charming bastard?!), Carver/Bethany.

It's possible the game might open with everything going to hell in a handbasket, or we might just get a little gameplay to show us our character going about their day before things blow up-- but nothing substantial enough to cause level up. The Fable games did that. You basically just ran around for a little bit, before OH MY HOLY CHEESEWHEEL WHAT IS HAPPENING.

I don't know know why but whenever I write about something involving a "sacrificial lamb", red shirt is just the first thing that pops in my head.

It was just the beginning of theg ame that made me think about it and I really hope, maybe they just use the console commands or like you said, you don't level up until after the veil rip

Cole is visible to everyone in the Fade. Image IPB

Outside of the Fade, if you can see him, chances are that you're being manipulated with blood magic. Image IPB
Though Cole's survey description gives a pretty strong hint that he can choose the good guy path if you help him, so it looks like there will be all kinds of delightful shades of gray with his character. So maybe with time and help he finds a way to communicate without messing with your brain! Image IPB

An invisible companion who knows a few things about how the Fade works could be very, very useful!

And brush, I just did a quick 5-sec graphic about various word densities. The stuff in the video isn't legible, but maybe you can compare them to known quantities and draw your own conclusions.

OMG, "WARDEN-COMMANDER CLAIROL" = Image IPB

Thanks for making this, berelinde! If I thought there were still a chance that it was Cullen, I'd probably scrutinize it some more, but since for all we know they may just change the name officially later anyway, I'm packing it in. I appreciate all your help, though.  Image IPB

And lurkers, stay de-lurked!! You seem nice and have great ideas!!!  Image IPB

LOL Yeah, agree that it looks like a name that begins with big C and ends with L. The Twitter thread has a sharpened up version. Still not readable, and I think their theory about it ending in an N is wrong, but it is more support for the "does NOT say Knight-Commander Cullen" theory.

Clarol, Clairol, Clavel,  all those could work.

Not gonna lie, when I first saw it I thought it might have said Knight-Commander Carrol. Much amusement followed.

You know I just realized that during the Adamant quest gameplay footage, our character is already called Inquisitor despite being only Lev 2. Add to that the presence of Cass and Varric, and I don't think what we're seeing is the opening "event"of which you are the "sole survivor" and subsequently become the Inquisitor. It's conceivable that they just decided to start their character with that particular quest for demo purposes because it was finished, instead of it being the actual chronological start of the game.
