Admittedly, I would prefer they put more into the companion romances than bother with NPC romances (even if that means we miss the oppotunity to romance Cullen). I mean... they have a 'word budget,' so constructing NPC romances would surely take a little away from the companion romances or something else.

Unless the npc romances were only available to maybe one or two characters then it wouldn't be worth doing. Like, if we were to get 2 male and 2 female companion LIs (like usual), then maybe doing 1 additional male and female npc romance could just about work because they could probably make it feel almost as full. But if we'll have more than 4 available companion romances then it wouldn't be worth it.

That being said, they've been given an extra year. In little over a year they made DA2 so who knows what sorts of improvements and extras to DAI could be added in that time.

I actually saw my very first attractive female Elf Warden today! Granted, it was made with mods installed, but if I can create a super attractive one in DAI I might make my canon Inquisitor an Elf!

Hm, do you suppose DG was giving a hint here about DAI romances:

"Once again-- the romances are *not* "all bisexual". While some people don't like subjective sexuality, being aware of the fact some of your love interests could romance someone of the same gender in another game takes a back seat to fairness and fun gameplay. As I said before, if we have a sufficient number of romances, a spread of set sexualities would actually be my preference... but that's not always going to be the case, as the game's focus is not on romance content even if threads on the BSN often seem to be."

I would actually like to see proper gay characters tackled, especially if they were companions. At the same time, though, I'm certainly not against all the romance options being open to everyone.

I always took the *not* 'all bisexual' thing as meaning that Mr. Gaider doesn't approve of simplifying sexuality to that extent? I mean there's also demisexual, pansexual, asexual but still romantic and all other kinds of sexual/romantic attraction beyond the heterosexual, homosexual, and bisexual.

Yeah, in DA2 I considered them to be player sexual, except Isabela who we know swings both ways anyway.

I guess if they do bring back sexualities then that would be a reason to have more than just two romanceable companions. It's weird, looking at these companions (the confirmed ones and the ones popping up in videos) it's hard to tell which ones would be romanceable and which ones wouldn't.

Mind you, if you had shown me the DA2 companions before the game came out I wouldn't have been able to guess who the non-romanceable companions were. In fact, it wasn't until I'd been part of this thread for half a year that I realised Aveline wasn't romanceable, LOL.

Of all the possible companions we've seen so far, only Varric and Qunari Guy jump out as non-romanceable to me.

So I was just speculating in my head about the Varric/Bianca situation, and I was thinking, what if the reason they parted ways was because he was stupidly having an affair with one of the big bosses girlfriends/wives, or she was from one of the big noble casts and/or engaged to someone important? Thus their grand escape failing because they were caught or stopped, or whatever.

Hell, it could be that he's actually been waiting for her all this time. I still prefer the idea that he thinks she's dead, just so that I can reunite them and watch their tearful reunion. Gotta help a brother out, especially Varric! I think I'd actually be a little sad if it turns out he's romanceable... plus I'd have a hell of a job choosing who to romance!

Yeah, really. I'm so torn about Varric and Bianaca and that whole situation regarding how it could play out, but at the same time... I find the idea that he's unable to move on a little sad too? I mean he seems happy enough, so I guess it's a bit silly to feel sad for him, but still...

Well, he might have got laid a few times since but nothing meaningful due to not being over Bianca, which he's clearly not.

He does strike me as the type of guy to be hung up over a woman who was a complete b!tch to him, especially not enough to name his bow after her and talk to it as though she was the real Bianca. I can only presume that he thinks she's dead. Unless Mary Kirby was just trying to trick us and she really is dead, lol.

Yeah, I was wondering if they would stick with the 2 elves/2 humans arrangement. I hope we don't get stuck with 3 humans again (like Origins).

I doubt Varric will be romanceable but it sure would be nice to finally get a dwarven LI.

That's what makes me wonder if Varric actually will be romanceable this time around. Especially after everyone swooned over those two from The Hobbit movie.

Varric would certainly make one helluva non-human romance option, but his 'issue' would probably be Bianca, and as awesome as Varric is I'm not really into the 'past girlfriend' thing when it comes to friction. 

There's also the possibility that Dorian, if he is a companion, is an elf.
