True. I originally thought the fem!PC in the coronation scene was a guy, too. Time will tell. To me, tho, this guy/girl seems to be a leader the way they've placed the figure at the head of the group being exalted. The real question is, exalted by whom?

I wouldn't read too much into it. The most vocal posters on the DAI forum are violently anti-Cullen, so this may be wishful thinking on their part.

Think about it. Who do we have for male companions?
Varric
Dorian (elf magister)
Grey Warden guy (attractive, but a little long in the tooth for widespread appeal*)

You're going to have 2 romanceable males. It will happen. I'm finding the following scenarios unlikely:
- dwarf & elf
- dwarf & "mature" human
- elf & "mature" human
- anything & qunari

You really need a more "mainstream" human male. Sure, it's possible there's another human male in the lineup we know nothing about, but I am having trouble believing that they're going to make the only romanceable males "exotic".

*I'm not saying he's unattractive! I'd be on him in a heartbeat! But I'm 46. Your "average" player may not be so willing to accept a guy who looks like he could be the protagonist's dad. Of course, that assumes a 20-something protagonist. If the protagonist is in his or her mid-thirties, everything changes... except that it doesn't. They're still pitching this game to a 20-something audience, so the characters have to appeal to the viewer, not necessarily to the PC. Not everyone roleplays immersively enough to ignore superficial traits.

This is my thinking too, actually. I, personally, would have absolutely nothing against any of the males we've seen so far, but I feel when it comes LI options Bioware is most likely to pick:

Chill McSmugson elf/Maybe!Dorian, and a human we haven't seen yet. I want to think that could be Cullen, of course, but there's also Cole to consider... or someone completely new... or Tridan Guy/Flaily Hand Guy. 

(Cole is definitely not mainstream, though. Flaily Hand Guy might be if he's still in... and then there's the possibility of someone completely new. Vivienne wasn't in the leak at all, was she?)

Yeah, I'm thinking Cole is straight out. He's exotic (inconspicuous bordering on incorporeal) *and* his backstory relies on a book many people will not have read. Plus, his childlike nature and atrocious hygiene push him even further into the "Let's not go there" camp.

Beardy's age wouldn't trouble me at all, and he's a fine enough looking fellow, but I would be pretty disappointed if, say, he or Varric were my only options. Largely because I've already laid eyes on Maybe!Cullen and Flaily Hands, and so now I've got my heart set on having at least ONE of them. :<

Agreed. Their physical looks don't really bother me, it really all comes down to their personality and the story/romance arc attached to them.

I think Chill McSmugson, Flaily Hand Guy, and Maybe!Cullen make me the most curious. I just like what very, very, very little we've seen of their 'personalities' in the concept art.

(Okay, and this is way random and off topic, but I just found a clip of ALL the whispers from Shepard's dreams during ME3 and I AM DONE. Crying forever. Goddamn it. My heart.)

And THAT'S why I haven't touched the Mass Effect games since I completed the Citadel dlc. The ME games were gonna tide me over until DAI, but I can't bring myself to play them again, lol.

You know I was a little hesitant before, but I think I'm liking the idea of Dorian being an elf, though one thing that confuses me.....Dorian unlike say Merrill or even Anders seems like the most human name possible.

Yeah, me either. Of course... I did sorta feel like that was directed at the casual follower, not hardcore BSNers like us. But you'd think, regardless, it would just be a big database of e-mail addresses. I could also see them holding off spamming folks  until there's really big announcements later in the development process, tho. Hmm.

I don't think there's an awful lot going on convention-wise over the November-February season, so after the autumn deluge, I expect things to level off for a few months. By springtime, it'll be about time to start thinking about system requirements and pre-orders, so I'd expect to start seeing nitty-gritty details about specific gameplay elements and companions start cropping up around then.

Yeah, the convention season seem to be from around April to late September. We just need to get through whats left of this year and the rest will be a cake walk, especially by Spring.
