Well, Mark Darrah did say specifically that the Inquisition is "formed" in opposition to the Chantry, so that suggests to me pretty early in the game. I could totally see one of the reasons we're "in opposition" being that the Chantry is amongst our suspects, tho. I've been digging that idea.Dirgegun wrote...

Hmmm, again how are we being christened "the Inquisitor" by the Divine (?) and yet are in opposition of the Chantry? Maybe she gives us free access? Do as you will with us....or something like that. I'm also wondering how much politicking we'll be doing
I think opposition could mean... Hmm...
Well, we know we're not working FOR them. The Chantry isn't what is sending us out on missions and the like. Instead we're an independent power who will be, at some point, looking through their dirty laundry/at the skeletons in their closet. I can see why the Chantry might rather dislike us because of that. That doesn't mean the Divine, herself, will be against us, though. She could be... not cool with what we're doing but understand that it needs to be done?
Alternatively, maybe us being in opposition to the Chantry comes later? Maybe they start out thinking we're going to investigate everything but them, but then our investigation leads to their doorstep and that's when things start to become hairy...

That being said, I don't think that pic necessarily tells us the Chantry is "appointing/coronating/whatever" the Inquisitor. We don't really know whose side Cass and Leliana, if that's them, are on at that point. Recall that there could even be factions within the Chantry after all Justinia's shenanigans. Lambert says in his letter in Asunder that he fully expects the Chantry itself to boot her. So... while it is oddly suggestive that the Chantry is making us Inquisitor, I'm sure there's some snazzy tapdance they'll do with the story so that's not so.
