Yeah... that part is a little sad. Also that you have to find the places where they might happen to have a conversation with you. That reminds me of all the statues I clicked on to no avail in Awakenings that never did anything since I didn't happen to have the right followers with me. Hmm... sounds like more metagaming in my future.

And they are 9 of them!
I sense a very very painful first playthru where everybody hates me , (And I always play a nice pc!) just because I didn't take them at the right places .
I don't like locations based talks either , but if the companions reaction are more tied to what's going on , maybe the relationships will be less schizophrenic ?
No more Anders having a brain fart and calling you a templar lover just because he doesn't like you.
Or Fenris falling deeply in love with you after you take a slave and almost sell him to DAnarius?

9 companions ...the first time I lost Zevran , Alistair , Morrigan and Sten Hated me ,and I was wondering who the hell was that alcoholic dwarf.
Da2 was also a different kind of disaster ...

Aww, I'm sad with the no-clicky-ness of the companions. But I like what they seem to be doing with the companions, the world, and the PC, so I'm thinking what they're doing should make up for whatever they take out.

Although I did loooove talking to Alistair for like, forever, at the beginning of the game in Ostagar.

I'm still really holding out hope on Cullen being a companion. It seems less and less likely with all the speculation I'm reading but I don't know what I'll do if he's not a romance option. Haha

I lost Zevran the first time around, but immediately reloaded and showered him w/ presents for him to stay. I also missed Leliana and had to start back from Lothering when I had already completed The Broken Circle (had to do the Fade twice!)

I plan to get the guide along w/ the game as I did w/ ME3 and DA2. It's sooo hard not to flip ahead and read spoilers though.

Hahaha. The first time I killed Wynne because I didn't want to lose Morrigan's approval (dumb, dumb, dumb) but I always seemed to have the same party in every playthrough: Alistair, Morrigan, Wynne/Zevran/Leliana (depending on if Wynne was alive or not). Barely got to know Oghren or Sten until my third/fourth playthrough

and it's near impossible for me to have my Warden romance anyone other than Alistair

You know if I had to the Fade twice , I really really don't think i'd be writing in this forum right now.

I had to fight Sten my first playthrough and then Alistair dumped my Elf after I made him King ... Yeah, I was pissed! Did not see that coming at all :crying:

I've finished both DAO and DA2 mostly unscathed. Everyone liked me and I almost kept everbody! Except Isabela :(
Unless you count Seb leaving too, but that was unavoidable on my end.

Didn't even do Fenris' act 2 quest because I never triggered it and never finished Merrill's act 3 quest since I forgot I had to go through the crevice inside the mountain to get to the statue.

Dodged a bullet with Alistair since we just stayed wardens too.

also made Alistair do the dark ritual and proceeded to laugh my ass off the entire time I was trying to convince him. I felt like such a horrible person, since I took the most blunt dialogue options, but it was still so glorious.

Heh, I just remembered that I killed Fenris on my first playthrough because he wouldn't side with me. I think I blocked that out from my memory...

In my second playthrough I killed Anders in favor of Sebastian ): I hate that choice.

As for DA:O, I played as a human noble my first time, hardened Alistair, and then I didn't choose the right dialogue options so he broke up with me and my Warden became romance-less while he became king. Ughhhh.

Second playthrough, my elf became his mistress so that was okay. :P

Yeah, I may do this, too. The only spoilers I read are the companion/romance ones, since I'm not a trial and error kind of girl. LOL

My first playthrough of DA2 was an epic fail. I completely missed Isabela some how, Anders ended up killing that little mage girl, that rapey mage dude lived, Fenris turned against me so I had to kill him and Bethany was really rude to me for no reason, LOL!

Bethany died in my first playthrough because I didn't like Anders so I didn't take him with me to the Deep Roads. That playthrough was so messed up now that I think about it hah

She survived in my first playthrough, my Hawke was trying to pursue him so I took him everywhere thinking I'd get some additional content, lol.

What does DG mean by the conversations were gated, and how does it pertain to Inquisition?

In DAO, Alistair doesn't tell you about being a bastard son of the king until right before you head into Redcliffe. I view that as being a "gated" conversation.

In DA2, you had a conversation with your companions once or twice every Act. Unless you were doing their personal quest, and as DG said, I viewed that as a quest, not as companion interaction.

So which style pertains to Inquisition? I hope to heck that I can talk to my companions about stuff long before we get to the middle of the game, and don't have to wait to talk some more until the end of the game before the big battle.

First DA2 playthrough, I missed Isabela, hadn't bought Sebastian, made Feynriel tranquil, let Anders kill Ella, I think reinstated that former templar and hence let Alain and co. die (OMGGGGGGGGGGG), spent approx. 30 minutes fighting the Arishok one on one....... but had a 100% friendship romance with Fenris while being pro-mage because when it comes to romance, I don't dick around! LOL

My second playthrough Arishok battle consisted of my mage running around the area until the freezey spell (Cone of Cold? lol why don't I remember this) recharged. Then I would freeze the Arishok, cast another spell, and then run away from him as soon as he unfroze again. That probably took a half hour as well...

That seems to be my tactic when it's one-on-one. Use a mage, cast a freezey-spell, and then ruuuuuun. I did that with Arl Howe in DA:O

I have dog biting the Arishok's butt whenever I play

Fortunately I usually have crushing prison + cone of cold, so I can wrap it up quickly enough.

Also, I never even changed my Hawke's outfit the entire first playthrough because everything else that I found was a robe.

Of course not, the cutscenes are an important part of the games. Besides John Epler has been going on about camera angles he's been doing in cut scenes for months now. So no worries there.

I think the panel's question of "Does story matter" is pretty stupid in the first place. If you're playing an RPG, of course story matters! Story should be what drives your character forward in the imaginary world.

And I like Bioware's cut scenes, too. I think they add a lot.

I dare say there's more to it than the title of the panel.
