I'm totally going to look into rubber WWAD braclets - because I'm bored and gratuitous. If I end up ordering a few then you're entitled to freebies because R2 lit the flame of ingenuity and Lola was there to fan the flames.  Vieralynn - you're an accomplice too so you're in. LOL

On that note, I bid you adieu!!

A bit late.. but nighty nite. And... I'm SO in for WWAD swag! It would be pretty brilliant for BW to do something like that. There is also a depressing dearth of Cullen swag, outside of those few (two?) tshirt designs on cafepress that are all vampire related.

I've always wanted to challenge  you artsy and creative folks to design something for cafepress about Cullen so there are a few more choices. Hmm... WWCD?  ;)

TTFN!

I actually wonder if the reason he clung so desperately to the Templar Order was more to do with his own need for something to define him/believe in and to feel part of something, rather than being religious to an extreme like he appears to the untrained eye. I kinda feel like he uses his religion and job as a means to punish himself and perhaps convinces himself that he believes in every aspect of the Chantry rules because he just wants to do something right and "belong" somewhere... until the end of DA2 when he finally starts to question things (which has no doubt stirred up some difficult emotions within him.)

If that's the case then this could potentially make for a very interesting story arc for his character. Maybe the reason he allows his emotions get so intense towards certain things (like our Warden and the Templar Order) could be due to his childhood, especially if he was orphaned or abandoned... or maybe he was responsible for the death of his family, perhaps he believes that he put his family in danger and as a result caused their untimely demise, so he punishes himself through his work and doesn't allow himself to find peace of mind or happiness.

All of this is giving me huge Cullen feels. I can see a mix of this plus him actually believing or trying to believe in Andrastrian teachings because is what he is supposed to do. DG's comment about Cullen having a lot of angst in his future makes so much sense in light of all the things we've mentioned today.

(now I just want to give the poor lost templar a hug.)  :innocent:

I need to sign off for a few hours. Must find food else I'll pass out on my computer. ^_^

I would imagine that he does believe in the Maker and Andraste etc, especially since he was brought up in a Chantry setting. But, I don't buy that he has complete unwavering faith in his religion and the Chantry like he claims to, and I hope that this will be something that is touched upon in DA3, especially since the Mage/Templar war is going to throw up some difficult questions that he'll need answers to in order to form his own opinions and learn to find belief in himself (with the help/love of a good protagonist of course!) :P

In DA3 I hope the companion quests are going to be more interesting. DA:O had it right in the sense that they felt more personal to each individual companion and gave you a glimpse into their past that wasn't necessarily plot related but were important to the individual companion, however, they were far too short. In DA2 the companion quests were longer but often felt a little dull and involved waves and waves of enemies, leaving the quest itself quite thin on the ground if you removed all the fighting. So for the third game, I'm hoping we will get the best of both and they'll give us personal quests that are fun/interesting, aren't always battle heavy - preferably requiring little to no fights at all, gives us a deeper understanding of each companion and lasts longer than the DA:O personal quests.

Oooo we should totally do that, and if we get him as a companion/LI then we should all take a picture wearing the t.shirt or something and send it to the DG or whoever wrote his character to say thanks along with some sort of present... providing they don't totally ruin him LOL.

Y'know, we've come up with all our theories and interpretations of Cullen's character but we could all be totally wrong. Like, maybe he had a happy childhood, wanted to join the Templars rather than being forced to, was respected as the Knight-Captain from the get go, has a healthy social life within the Templar ranks and is actually engaged to a respectable woman from Kirkwall LOL.

Of course, that would make for a really dull storyline but DG hasn't been specific about what sort of angst he'll have (if he's in any of the future games in any capacity), so it could just be angst relating to distrusting mages and learning to over come his PTSD. Aside from his torture still causing him a bit of trouble and the fact that he helped Hawke kill Meredith after questioning her authority, we don't really know much at all about Cullen on a personal/emotional level at all, other than what's in his codex entry and the little he tells us during encounters with Hawke... I'm actually really impressed that we've managed to fill up nearly 250 pages dedicated to an NPC that we know so little about lol.

I've always headcannoned that he was abandoned to the Chantry as a child. He never knew his birth parents, so that would explain why he is so devout to the Templar Order, while his peers waver (in terms of sex). He sees Andraste as his Mother, and the Maker as his Father.

(Shrugs) Just me theory. I've been wrong before.

I love this! LOL Good point. I almost see a plot bunny there.

Hawke: "But... but... you're just perfectly well adjusted and happy? There's... n- nothing to f- fix?"
Cullen: [brow creases in puzzlement] "I suppose you could say that. Mum and dad used to joke that we were one of the more boring families in the Denerim suburbs. Anyway, why do you ask? And, Hawke, why are you stuttering?"

LOL that would be pretty funny!

I reckon they should just make his life/history/background as sh!tty as possible since he seems to be the DA whipping boy so far lol.

Another DG tweet:

"Think I finally figured out how to end this story. Always a good feeling when you break the seal. :)"

I wonder if it's just one of his up and coming comics/books about the DA universe, or the game?

I hope he's not standing on the edge of a bridge while he's tweeting that. It would have a whole other meaning! lol

LOL!

Did you guys know that one of the Mass Effect 3 writers is now working on the writing for DA3? That's an extra writer to help get the job done! Maybe it's not the DA3 game that was postphoned after all?

Oh... well, I just found out now that Drew's left Bioware. There goes one of their best writers. He was one of the writers for DA2, apparently.

Not much info on this Sylvf person.

I have a feeling it's about the new comic series :(

All I want is some info about DA3 and if Cullen is in it or not. I think he deserves more than being a simple NPC.

Same here. The possibility of having to wait until 2014 is daunting. Surely they'll give us something to peak our interest in the game whilst we wait?

Apparently. He was one of Bioware's lead writers until he left in February this year. 'Twas saddening, he was the sole writer for ME1, and he wrote it like a novel. :(

To work on his won projects, apparently. It really shows in ME3 that he wasn't part of the writing process.

I hope the writers for DA3 will make this game epic. I'm sure none of us want another ME3 ending.

But . . . I'm not against some characters dying. In fact, that was one of the many good things about ME3. Some characters were killed off, but not before doing something awesome and epic so they went out in a blaze of glory. I just hope none of them will be Cullen.

Agreed. They killed off characters but it made sense and wasn't done just for drama.

I think it would be fun if they killed off a few past companions from DA:O/DA2, but it would have to be done very carefully, since it'll be difficult to recreate it in a way that is on par with ME3, since the DA games give us different protagonists every game, so to the protagonist it's not gonna really bother them too much if, say, Zev was killed off, even though it would upset the player. However, if they killed off a DA3 companion towards the end of the game (who we had grown attached to) with no way of saving them, then that would be heartbreaking... so long as they executed it better than the stabby-Anders thing. (Knowing our luck it would be Cullen.)

... I have a horrible feeling that if they're going to kill off anyone it'll be Alistair, which would totally kill me lol.

Killing Alistair would be, and I quote someone from ages back, like telling kids that Santa doesn't exist on Christmas day and then proceeding to burn candles with his face on them.

Plus, my Mage Warden would be devestated.

LMAO it would be just like that! I think he's safe for now though, DG 'n' co need him for future novels and comics etc. I could seriously see them killing off Cullen though, be it as a companion or NPC, I'll be very surprised if there isn't at least the option to kill him.
