Personally, I don't think that's Cullen. This Templar's hair is too red, and the jawline is much more elongated than Cullen's. 

Although, if this Templar is attempting to calm this mage...I find that very interesting.

Yea thats gotta suck, if it was me I couldn't take it I would tell everyone EVERYTHING if I could but this is why I would propably  never get invited to "secret" event cause I cant keep my mouth shut lol

I can answer your question about whether this is optional: Absolutely.
You are in no way required to use the keep to create a state for your playthrough. You can use the default canon without any problems.However, it really is quite nifty. You can for instance see the ripple effects of a change from DAO on the subsequent data.

Can you essentially use this to create a background from scratch so we dont have to always playthrough the previous titles?

Yes! You can create an entirely new history from scratch, with many many choices. The Keep will ensure all your choices are compatible and don't conflict. You can do this as many times as you want, and whenever you want. Fire up a new DAI game and your changes will be in effect in your new playthrough.

It's the last part that made me pause. "whenever you want" but I guess only for a new playthrough (which logically makes me sense).
