Let's be clear: this blonde elf has only showed up in concept art. The survey suggested Sera would be an archer. We know now that Varric is filling that spot. I think she's been relegated to NPC status.

Actually, she showed up in two of the GI videos too as a party member.

Mike Laidlaw has also stated that we get to choose our companions weapon choice, as in we could make Sera an archer or dual weapons. 

I wonder if that counts for Varric too? Or if he'll be the only one who only uses one weapon?

I was just thinking that too as I typed that  Varric seems to be a special case, as he was in DA2 w/ his signature weapon. Maybe he'll be able to swap to daggers if we choose, but his "main" weapon will always be Bianca

I think I'll keep him using Bianca, for nostalgia's sake!

I know right? Who would want to seperate him from Bianca?

So you guys are just saying that DG's comment suggests Sera is definitely a companion. I can see why you'd think that....

But consider that this is a new game, and that things just might work differently. This is a bigger, more vast game with much greater ambition than the previous two.

An NPC could in fact be a major character. Think about characters like the Arishok or Meredith. Cailan and Duncan. These were not companions, but I'm sure there is concept art out there of them, and I'm sure their writers and artists hold them very dear to their hearts.

True, but you're forgetting that we saw "Sera" in the GI videos accompanied by the GW dude in our party.

Yeah I did forget that LOL Yep, she's a companion... or some iteration of her.

OR... maybe she and GW guy were just place-holders... you can stick any body ID and head morph into the game and it will move and fight like the companion, ya know.

Also, the weapons are not a limiting factor in DA:I, according to Mike Laidlaw. They don't have restrictions like that. So, if Sera's a rogue, presumably you can choose to have her dual wield or use a bow or whatever.

Anyhoo, MMG, good point that the other companions could have been placeholders... afterall, the Cassandra map stabbing in the Fires Above trailer seems like another placeholder situation perhaps for our PC. But... I don't think there's anything in those videos the devs didn't intend to be there... I dunno, seems pretty suggestive to slot them in as companions, instead of some generic head. Like they did with grey-haired "generic templar" dude on Cullen in the DotS behind the scenes footage of the Gallows finale scene.

Naw, not with how they keep popping up in concept art and stuff... or at least, in the GW's case he tends to pop up in a lot of pictures and stuff.

You know, someone who got cut I think is Scribe Girl. Someone (DG?) made the point that the table-stabbing concept art was dated. And that's the only place we've seen her since the survey leak.

Unfortunately this probably also puts Cullen on the chopping block.

I would want to cut out Scribe girl but then ppl will complain that there wont be that many females in the party so... I guess I would have to go with the Iron Bull since his always alone in pics anyway

I think ideally I'd get rid of Varric, but obviously he's confirmed, so...

Flaily hands since I've no real interest in him; nothing against him, just nothing sparks anything in me with him.

Varric I think he's funny and cool but we've just had so much of him I would pick Cullen over him any day.

Okay, got confused. Went back to look at Gaider's post on the scribe and I think I was trying to read between the lines of what he said.

I'm not going to say whether she's a companion, or if she's even still in DAI. Not every character mentioned in that survey was a companion, and some of them either no longer exist or have changed signficantly. Hence why I have said before not to hold it up as gospel-- you may be very disappointed.

If I had my druthers? Or who do I think isn't in?? 

Yeah, Scribe Girl does nothing for me, and she doesn't seem like fighter/party member material. Given  her appearance on the wall at Bioware in the "companion inventory" pic... suggests  she's in in some capacity, tho. So I don't know if I'd rule her out yet. At least as possibility of non-party follower.

So, speaking of "companion inventory," recall that Trident Guy was in there, too. He could still be Flaily Hands... but I would count him out yet either.

I forgot all about Trident Guy. Maybe it is Flaily Hands. Is his trident a mage staff though? Is he an arcane warrior?
