Serah Hawke,
Please forgive me for making assumptions, and be sure that you need only let me know should you prefer my silence. In her infinite wisdom, Grand Cleric Christina has tasked me with hunting down what are presumed to be the most dangerous maleficarum fled from the ruins of Kirkwall, a great honor as you can imagine. Conditions forbade me to take more than a handful of Templars, but the righteousness in our hearts will surely protect us and guide our swords to victory.
Yours truly,

Knight-Captain Cullen

Episode 1

21 Justinian 9:38
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Just a reminder from the Village Guard, be sure to avoid the desert ravines after nightfall. Townies, “adventure travelers,” and tourists continue to frequent the old ruins and oases. In addition, there are some reports of illegal use of the supposedly “mystical” properties of the gas vents near the mineral baths, with some tourists “going native” after their use. The resultant joy riding and carousing could mean heightened risk so the guard captain asks all residents to stay clear until tourist season ends.

Meanwhile, at the unemployment office:
"Previous work experience?"
"Um... Templar Knight Captain of Kirkwall."
*condescending glance over bifocals* "Sir, you may want to keep that little bit of info off of your resume. We'll just call it 'personal security and crowd control'." Writes it down.
Cullen shifts  uncomfortably .
“What else?”
“Excuse me?”
“What else have you done for work since then? Kirkwall went up in smoke 2 years ago. Surely you’ve have other jobs since then… “
“Oh, yes… of course. Um, I patrolled the stalls for some traveling merchants.”
“Gypsies??”
<sigh>”I didn’t know they were bandits until I caught one of them stealing back my paycheck.”
*snort*”Next?”
“After that I did… odd jobs. Handyman work.”
“Which included…?”
*More uncomfortable shifting before mumbling* “I danced.”
“Danced?”
*Blushes profusely* “At a brothel, ok? I went to Cumberland and the only work I could find was table dancing at a bloody brothel. The owner told me he could pay me and supply lyrium if I did a few jobs which turned out to be washing his damned horses and dancing on the weekends.”
“A –hem…. Well then…”  *barely containing laughter* “You have experience in ‘pet grooming’ and… ‘entertainment’… “
“Madame, please… don’t put that…”
“Serah, do you want to find employment or not?”
*hangs head* “Yes.”

Episode 2

Former Templar Knight-Captain Implicated in Brawl with Starkhaven Prince

STARKHAVEN (AP) -- An altercation broke out late last night at the Starkhaven royal palace between Prince Sebastian Vael and former templar Knight-Captain Cullen of Kirkwall. Palace sources claim the former captain was engaged in what's been described as a "lyrium-induced bender" while vacationing across Thedas. No charges have been filed.

Prince Vael hosted an invite-only event at the palace when the local templars were called to the scene for a disturbance with an uninvited guest. Eye witnesses report that the guest was Cullen, a former knight-captain discharged from templar service following the notorious Battle of Kirkwall and the ensuing cover up. The former captain allegedly had a heated exchange with the Prince over the Champion of Kirkwall, Marian Hawke. Unsubstantiated rumors claim that the Champion, reported missing since 9:37, also was witnessed at the scene.

Chantry representatives had no comment on the incident.

Episode 3

Champion Marian Hawke and Templar “Companion” Steam Up Ski Hide Away

Heading to the slopes? Consider the Frostbacks which have been heating up with several celeb sightings. The elusive Champion of Kirkwall, missing from the spotlight since her forced retirement from the hero biz, recently was seen at a certain exclusive ski resort. The warrior sported her signature messy bob and a handsome blond on her arm. Unnamed sources claim the blond was none other than Cullen, the disgraced former knight-captain of Kirkwall. The two avoided paparazzi but were witnessed canoodling in dark corners. One party goer described them as “inseparable, if you know what I mean.”

This new pairing explains the scandal in Starkhaven last month. The lady champion was rumored to be the source of conflict in a juicy tug of war between the sexy new Prince of Starkhaven and the party-crashing former templar, who has struggled with substance abuse and “exhaustion” on and off since his days at Ferelden’s Kinloch Hold.

Stay tuned to Thedas Weekly for all your celebrity gossip!

“Soo… Cullen.”

“Varric.” The former Templar replied.

The dwarf sat in one of the cushioned armchairs. He leaned back as far as the furniture allowed him too, crossed his legs and folded his hands on his chest.

“Have you ever been to Orzammar?”

Cullen seemed surprised by the question, he cleared his throat. “Orzammar?” He furrowed his brown, cocking his head to the side. “Why?... What if I’ve been there? You know something?”

A sly smile played on Varric’s lips, he shrugged slightly. “I might.”

“You’ve lived in Kirkwall your whole live. How would you know what is happening there?” Cullen shook his head.

“I’m still a dwarf and even if it seems like my job is to just sit in Taverns and tell my wild stories, I do have connection all over Thedas.”

Cullen mumbled angrily to himself.

“Look, I’ve just left the Templars and went through pretty bad withdrawal at the time. I just wanted some Lyrium to take off the edge.”Cullen groaned. “Seeing as the Chantry controls the Lyrium here, I thought it would be easier to get it in Orzammar. I found a Smuggler and she agreed to give me some if I do her and her friends a favor.”

Varric chuckled “Female Smugglers, they’re a sneaky bunch.” He leaned forward, lowering his voice. “So that’s how you ended up wrestling Nugs in your smallclothes?”

Cullen nodded. “I swear they greased the damn thing.”

“So you wrestled Vermin in return for Lyrium for three years?”

“Not quite, it worked for a while, but…” Cullen ran his hand through his short hair. “Apparently my business partner wasn’t a Smuggler after all, her husband was. He was wondering why his stash was running low and followed his wife…”

Varric threw his hands in the air. “Andraste’s dimpled butt cheeks. We’re you the human…”

“….that was chased through Orzammar by an angry dwarf swinging an enormous hammer, in nothing but his smallclothes?” Cullen sighed. “Yeah, that was me.”

Serah Hawke,
Thank you for your kind response. Yes, the Grand Cleric is adamant in capturing these maleficarum alive as a means to learn the location of other apostates. I have requested that the brothers lost to us in this perilous pursuit be replaced by others, but that is merely my failure to see the bigger picture and to do my duty as commanded. We are all proud to have been chosen for this holy task, and shall continue to do it to the best of our ability until the Maker calls us to his side.
Yours truly,

Knight-Captain Cullen

Hey guys! I'm late to the party, Sorry! I got a summary of the story Ill be writing (hopefully) over the
weekend. My contribution to page 2500:

Intro (9:37 Dragon to half into 9:39 Dragon) Templars arrive in Kirkwall to help acting Knight-Commander Cullen restore order, and rebuild. Cullen befriends a templar from Ferelden who has the same beliefs in the order as him. Eventually Cullen is summoned by the Divine, and leaves Kirkwall. He leaves his friend in charge of Kirkwall, and heads to Orlais.

Middle (9:39 Dragon)
Cullen arrives in Orlais. Meets with the Divine, and she asks him to be her informant on the things going at the Conclave. The Divine does not trust Lambert, and wishes to know what's happening. Cullen gets to the Conclave just in time to witness the disaster (at which point poor Cullen has a "Are you f*cking kidding me??" moment. He feels he's seen enough of Mages and Templar violence) He manages to escape unnoticed, but on his way back to report back to the Divine, he is knocked unconcious.

End (Last part of 9:39 to 9:40 Dragon)
Cullen awakes in a dark cell. He is being held by crazy Templars. A few months pass by, Cullen refuses to become one of them. Around 9:40 Dragon, a small band of people break into the prison and free Cullen. It isn't until they are travelling (in the back of a wagon that smells kind of like potatoes) back to where ever this strange group is headed that Cullen learns of the Inquisition. He is asked to join, and he accepts. (The wagon he's travelling in is Bodahn and Sandals! Lol)

Serah Hawke,
I have sent the last two men under my command to deliver you this note. They are to be returned to me with utmost haste as it is their duty to the Maker and to the Grand Cleric to finish this endeavor with me. Only five apostates remain to be caught, but they have banded together and the only resources left to me seem to be luck and guile. I pray that the divine protection I have been afforded thus far remains with me, and thank you sincerely for your friendship. It has ever been a guiding light in times of darkness, and I wish you well.
Yours truly,

Knight-Captain Cullen

Here's something Phate Phoenix has been working on for the past couple days. Yay 2500!

(CULLEN leans over a table. Papers are spread out across it, listing the men and women who have left Kirkwall and surrounding Chantry's Orders. CARVER steps into the room. He's holding more paper, which he sets on top of the others CULLEN is reading)
CARVER: Three more deserted today.
CULLEN: Three? Damn it!
(CULLEN punches a table. A goblet rattles, and CARVER grabs it before it topples onto the stack of papers.)
CARVER: You had to expect this, Knight-Commander. Most of Kirkwall's men were Merideth's, not the Order's.
CULLEN: The Order... Was any of it for the Order?
CARVER: Knight-Commander?
CULLEN: What Merideth did. What Alrik did. How many Templars did what they did for the Order?
CARVER: Merideth went mad, ser. Alrik...
CULLEN: You've been here almost as long as I have, Carver. Did you suspect nothing? Or...
(CARVER steps back from the table. His faced is flushed.)
CARVER: Are you suggesting that I would let Alrik--
CULLEN: No. Not that. I just wonder...
(CULLEN steps away from the table and toward the windows overlooking the city.)
CULLEN: How many of those people joined to take advantage of those we swore to overlook? And how long did I allow my belief in what we stood for blind me to those intentions?
CARVER: I...
(CARVER falls silent. CULLEN glances back at him, a sardonic smile across his face.)
CULLEN: Just who are the monsters, Carver? People like your sister, or people like me?
???????: A fair question.
(Both men turn to the doorway. A hooded woman stands there. Her armor has the insignia of a white eye surround by a sunburst. CULLEN bows in respect.)
CULLEN: Seeker.
(CARVER jumps. Then mimics the bow. The hooded woman merely laughs.)
???????: So formal! There is no need. I am Sister Nightingale.
(The woman removes her hood, revealing red hair. CULLEN frowns at her. SISTER gives a slight shake of her head. CARVER looks on, confused.)
CULLEN: Word of your arrival has reached us here, Sister. Your... conversation with Tethras will be common news before noon.
SISTER: I had heard secrets do not live long in Kirkwall. Especially around the Merchant Prince. It seems this is true.
CARVER: Have you come for me, next?
(CULLEN looks at him, brow furrowed. CARVER offers a wry grin.)
CARVER: This is about my sister, yes? Well, then I can tell you she hasn't made contact with me since she fled Kirkwall with Anders. To be fair, I'm not sure what I would tell you if I knew where she was.
CULLEN: (hissing) Maker's mercy, Carver!
SISTER: (laughs) It's alright, Knight-Commander. I am satisfied with his answer. If he did not turn her into the Circle for seven years, why would he start now?
(CULLEN shakes he head.)
CULLEN: Then why have you come?
(SISTER walks into the room and stands at the table. She looks over the papers, eyes sad.)
SISTER: We need loyal hearts, Knight-Commander. The Champion is a symbol, one which could inspire people to our side.
CARVER: Is your side her side?
SISTER: (looks up) I would like to think so.
CULLEN: But you can't have the Champion. I'm certain she and Anders are planning on leading the war effort. Or they're in the Tevinter.
SISTER: Perhaps. But just because we've lost our symbol doesn't mean we have lost our cause.
(SISTER finally steps back from the table. She walks to CULLEN and CARVER. She smiles at CULLEN, and he flushes faintly.)
SISTER: What do you know of the Inquisition, Cullen?

He had lost count of the days. Huddled in a corner of his cell, Cullen rested. He had tried to keep this corner clean, scraping the stinking muck covering the floor away with his own hands, but any such delusion had since left him and now his own refuse was mingled with the old. All that mattered was surviving. Resting for the next bout of violent spasms that would slam his head against the stone. Resting for the next time the templars would come and laugh at him, spit on him. His own men. His brothers.

The irony was delicious, even to him. He had given his life, his very soul, to the order. A grown man, and he had never been drunk, nor learned to dance. Never even kissed a girl. Cullen felt the familiar ache in his chest, but there were no more tears left in him. Life had finally wrung him dry. Closing his eyes instead, he rested, and he gave himself a gift. The only gift anyone had ever given him. He gave himself permission. To live, love, want, and have. If he ever left this place, he would give himself all and anything his heart desired.

And at the very top of that list was making them pay.

Serah Hawke,
I write to you now from the chantry in Churneau, an Olrlesian settlement that struggles to decide whether it is a town or a village. I have been relieved of command and repositioned here as a result of my failure to capture those last malificarum alive, had I any parents they would surely weep with shame. For my own part, I am merely grateful. To the Maker and his bride for miraculously sparing me yet again, and to the Grand Cleric for allowing me to continue to serve the Maker in a role more suited to my ability. I hardly dare say it, but I am truly looking forward to some peace and quiet.
Yours truly,

Ser Cullen

Carrol: Lo, how the mighty have fallen! Fat lot of good all that preferential treatment did you, eh?
Cullen: Kirkwall was not a reward.
Carrol: I suppose they just hand out those Knight-Captain stripes like Satinalia presents, then.
Cullen: I would rather have had the rotten onion. At least I would have seen the corruption before I took a bite.
Carrol: What? You thought it would be some kind of paradise? From what I hear, you had it pretty good in Kirkwall.
Cullen: That just goes to show what you know. There's a lot to be said for serving a man with principles.
Carrol: You mean Greagoir? He's a joke. The First Enchanter walks all over him.
Cullen: That's Knight-Commander Greagoir to you, and he knows what the order is about. We serve. We protect. That is our role.
Carrol: And let the blighted robes run us in circles? I don't think so! You have to show them who's boss!
Cullen: If you think that way, you're a fool. We're no more immune to the lure of power than the mages are, and we're even less prepared to resist it.
Carrol: Why should we? We're doing the Maker's work here! If we get a few perks out of it, who cares? We deserve it.
Cullen: You deserve a swift kick in the seat if that's what you believe. I have seen -
Carrol: Oh, spare me! I'm sick of hearing about your nightmares. So the Hero of Ferelden found out you were crushing on her. Big deal. You should have tapped her when you had the chance.
Cullen: (sigh) And this is why we're hated throughout Thedas.

Ack, sorry I missed 2500 guys, couldn't really think of something. I threw this together if you need/want anything else to fill up the page.

After the events in Kirkwall, many templars found themselves out of a steady paycheck. The Knight Captain was no exception, having to lower himself to less than savory means to bring home a steady income.

Unfortunately due to the rise of Mabari birth rates, the puppies had long ago conered the "Kissing Booth" market in Fereldan. Cullen, despite his popularity among female recruits and apprentices, didn't make much cash that summer.
