This guide here is what I am following to build my gaming computer. It tells you what you need, and what price range you can build from. (The guide does assume that you already have a monitor, however.) I would go for the $600 or $1000 range.

I really want to play SWTOR, so that's why I'm building it. Plus, it'll be fun to say "i built my own gaming computer." XD

Oooh, this is perfect, thank you! Posted Image

Meh, I'll stick with Xbox. Really excited about the "One" in November, it's about freaking time! :wizard:

Personally, I don't like PC gaming, other than MMO's but I don't play them no more either. I just can't get used to the mouse/keyboard set up.

I built my first PC a few months ago as I was disappointed in what I was hearing about the XBox1. I think it is a better investment.

I have come to realise that PC gamers get such good deals on games (compared to XBox) and the great thing is that you can still use your controller to play some of the games (or a gaming mouse for ones that don't like DA).

Edit - oh and I forgot about mods!

And also you don't have to pay a b*ll**** fee EVERY MONTH for connecting to the internet, so you save a few bucks there. *grumble, grumble* Posted Image

Do you have to pay an extra fee to connect the XBox to the internet or is this a monthly fee generally to use the internet? Also, don't forget the fee to use XBox Gold!

It's a general monthly fee for Xbox Gold. You could use Xbox live free, or how I used to know it xbox silver and you still get to connect to the internet to download games/updates etc, you just can't play multiplayer.

*Actually, I think it's yearly, not monthly.*

I plan on using my xbox controller on the PC and probably connect the whole thing to my livingroom TV, but I will need to call on some favors (and probably sell my soul) to get it all working.

Bah, who am I kidding? Posted Image Any of you know some nice, good looking hackers that are contemplating marrage and don't mind chilly weather..? I'm a mean cook and trained masseur, and he can do what he want's on weekends..

What Chianti said. You also need Live Gold to use Netflix and such, which you are already paying for. It's a sham.

But there are games that don't support the controller and I should really not be allowed to screw around with a PC to install stuff to do it, lol. I remember trying to update a driver for the graphics card and ended up with blue screen and my husband pulling his hair out.

Oh well, I'm happy being a console peasant.

Did turning it off, waiting a bit and turning it back on again not work? That's how I solve all tech issues. That's how I would've tackled the star child in ME3 had I been given the choice.

Me: So.. I'm pretty much screwed no matter what..?
SC: Pretty much.
....
SC: ...what are you doing?
Me: Stand still, kid. I just need to find.. It's gotta be here somewhere..

I associate computers with work and writing, not gaming. I've gamed on a box since I was a child, so it would never occur to me to do that kind of thing on my laptop. I was never even aware of this "war" until I came to BSN; in fact, I thought of PC gamers as maybe like girls playing the Sims (p.s. I own the Sims lol) while "real gamers" (guys) played shooters on xbox. Ah, youth.

Personally I loved that you couldn't save the day in ME3. Really messed with some people's heads. but ME series was more science fiction than video game.

Well depending how well you want your computer rig built up it can get up to 1000$ or more for example  my husbant spent  $1500 on my new computer

Yeah, but I'd rather pay 1500$ for something that I can get at least mildly excited about AND use for other stuff than shell out 500$ on something that I just feel is an insult at this point. I will not pay more than an american for a box that is geared solely to the american market, and I'm just not feeling the PS4 (plus the controllers aren't great for my hands).

The money's not the issue, it's that these consoles aren't providing a good service to me as a customer. I'll give it a few months though, see what the end result is and if I've missed features that I think I would enjoy, but if I'm just paying for slightly better graphics/performance then it makes more sense buying a PC.

I guess the only pro to a console is that you dont have to upgrade it every 3-4 years a console can last a while, but either way I enjoy my PC gaming and MODS as someone else mentioned:D<3

And there's the fact that you don't have to use a mouse and keyboard to play a game lol And you can sit on your couch and eat candy while you play the way one is SUPPOSED to play games :P And it's cheaper, and you can play with friends.

Seriously, console wars in the Cullen thread?? :innocent:

Dunno yet. It's not easy getting us altogether because of the time differences and everybodies schedules etc. Plus, LadyInsanity will be joining us for this one, so we'll need to work out when she's free too.

It'll definitely happen, I just don't know when, lol.

The mods are nice, but the real advantage for me is that gameplay on the PC doesn't seem as choppy, if that makes any sense.

Plus, I use my PC for more than just playing games. I make mods, so even if I got a console, I'd still need a PC for that. I don't see any point in buying two separate gaming systems, so PC it is.

I'm in two minds about which I prefer. I've gotten used to console gaming, and I like that I can just veg out in front of the TV and play the game easily with consoles. But I like that I can download mods and stuff on the PC.

With a wireless keyboard and mouse, I can veg out on my sofa, too. Plus, I can take screenshots, which I enjoy.

I'm not claiming that one is better than the other! If your preferred platform suits your style, that's all it needs to do.

I'll be honest, all the keyboard commands makes fiddly work for me. I'll get used to it again eventually, lol.

Dragon Age isn't like Mass Effect, where you can only access certain functions via keyboard "shortcuts," which are an absolute terror and no shortcut at all, to be perfectly honest. You can get there using the keyboard, of course, but everything has an on-screen icon which you can click with the mouse if you would rather do it that way. I usually hide the interface when I take screenshots, but I can post one when I get home if you're curious about the PC interface. DAI will be different, of course, but they're also saying that DAI will have controller support, so you can have the best of both worlds.
