Just to inject a note of caution... we shouldn't forget Alistair... I'm hoping they can see the essence of Cullen, but I also feel like the new engine is a whole new playing field. Whatever they do, he'll certainly look different.
(*sorry, apparently I'm a bummer this morning*)
Hey, Auntie Mello will soon cheer you up! *hold her tablet*
And yes, Cullen will change from DA2 to DAI as he changed from DAO to DA2 (and in a good way, unlike many others..Alistair... Zevran... the worst being Teagan to my taste...)
So far, I find the "new" Varric and Cassandra convincing.
In fact t I'm more concerned about what they could do with Cullen's behaviour and personality.
Aw, rats, my browser can't load the image.Phate Phoenix wrote...
Okay, so, there was a discussion about last names earlier and how they could be important to the storyline? I think I found where Cadash could fit in:

(Forgive the terrible image quality, I am a dirty console user and must make-due with the camera on my phone.) This is from Witch Hunt. The elves of Arlathan fled from the Tevinter Empire and the Cadash dwarves took them in. So, whatever thing that's going on with the Veil could have to do with the Eluvian, which ties back into Morrigan.
I totally forgot about this, and wanted to share with you guys. Hope this feeds the speculation fire for awhile!
EDIT: So the image is actually really, really big.Probably for the best to just click the link.
That part wasn't written by David Gaider, it was written by the fan who commissioned the art from aimo (morrigan****yeah.tumblr.com). David's comments are just the last part... calling the art "relevant to my interests."VampOrchid wrote...

And just got to love that he finished an fan to do that!!

In fact, even in Act 3 he's still "mages can't be trusted, bloody ****** takers! Rar rar rar!" And yet at that point in this ambient dialogue in the Gallows he'd already starting to warm up from Act 2, so again I think that's down to the game being rushed that his reactions seem a little odd sometimes... that or he's got a personality disorder. Could be an interesting layer to him, actually.
He has lots of conflicting thoughts that he has issues sorting through, I feel. It's not as simple as just warming up to mages, he's been through so much he's set to go off at anything. And I imagine this could be even more prevalent in DAI after having seen the worst of the templars, as well.

I hope this doesn't mean DG's has "interests" in a Morrigan death scene...

Could also be the "Morrigan's life" part... the kid crying over her death is too much for me, tho... If they go there... hmm... <_<LolaLei wrote...

Hm, could be it's revelant because she might die (either as an option by our hand, or in general), or just revelant because it's Morrigan and he's working on her stuff right now.
That's just something that gets said a lot in reference to Morrigan fans, especially where someone is observing how they care a lot about Morrigan, and ignore everything else.LolaLei wrote...

I wouldn't actively kill them though; that's just weird. Like the people who knifed Morrigan before she went into the mirror. Like.... why??

Exactly. I mean, I'd do it to see the outcome out of curiosity, but I wouldn't kill them off purposely for my final canon game. It just seems kinda pointless.
And that is why I feel so ambivalent about Morrigan.thats1evildude wrote...

As a character, she's OK, but as far as I'm concerned her story ended two games ago. In my games, she's the one my Warden's lover had to screw to keep both of them alive. And I'm supposed to look forward to her return... why? In terms of emotional investment, I'm just not feeling it. It's rather like going to an awards banquet in honor of your husband's ex.
They keep turning the male protagonists' lovers into these godlike mythic figures that will impact the world for generations to come... and they never give the players of female protagonists a reason to care about them. While the male LIs I do care about are relegated to insignificant cameos that reek of fanservice.
So yeah, I'm kinda hoping that Morrigan and Leliana will be roasted by dragonfire in the first three seconds of the game and we'll never have to deal with them again.
I don't hate the games! They do a lot of things right. But this part really rubs me the wrong way.
