They *can't* make the Big Bad a "she," Lola. It doesn't matter how progressive we become, the role of a female in a video game is always tied to her appearance. If she's pretty, she'll be on the side of right. If she's ugly, she's evil or hopelessly damaged. Meredith's morality is questionable, but there's no denying how cold-looking she was. You will never, ever see a villain who looks like Carrie Fisher.

Unless it's for fetish purposes, lol. The female villians in Shadows of the Damned were all super attractive and wearing fetish gear... except the witches, they were just scary.

Unless of course she's a demon seductress Big Bad. But that's kind of boring.

It's actually pretty irritating.  Because we're women people presume that we want Cullen for the sole reason of romancing him, but then you get the legions of male Cassandra fans, who want the same thing as the Cullen fans and no one accuses them of just wanting to see her naked, lol.

This has been bugging me for a while. Some of the same people who accuse us of only wanting Cullen for his looks participate actively in threads criticizing how Morrigan and Cassandra look in the new engine. But that's the way it goes.

If David Gaider weren't so obviously in love with Morrigan, I might actually think that she was responsible for the veil tear. Now *that* would be an interesting plot development! And a valid reason why it had to be Morrigan and not Flemeth. But then again, I'm convinced that Leliana is secretly a pride abomination, so don't mind me.

That and the big bad is a "he" again. Why are there never any good female villains? The broodmother doesn't count, she had her ****** out on show... all 8 of them!

Tbh, if Cullen was just romanceable and not a companion too then I think I'd be slightly offended. As if the "fan girls" only want to shag him.

That's not it at all, yes romancing him would be cool, but I'd want him as a companion role so that we could watch his story unfold and see how his experiences with the Inquisition and party members shapes him as a person.

Yes and no for me. I'd like to have my cake and eat it too since Cass is in the game.

If we get him as a companion and he's not romanceable, I think I'd still be pretty happy. Granted his story better have a big part and be freaken awesome lol

The DA team couldn't even understand why we were annoyed that no one pointed out that the DA:I protag could be female as well as male. Yes, um, that's kind of important! Sure, us hardcore fans know that, but what about other female fans out there? I was not always a DA fan. Maybe if they had marketed to me, I would have come into the fold sooner and not stumbled into it by chance!

Yeah, I know for sure they lost money from me due to not showing off FemShep. I felt sad that BioWare were stepping away from their RPG making where I could create my own character and decide what they wanted to do and think, only to create yet another shooter for dudebros.

Ended up trying the game at a friend's place just because I indeed have loved BioWare's games in the past, and hey as soon as I saw the character creation screen I knew I had misjudged the entire game. I could pick my class, gender, design my face and even decide my backstory. This was in many ways even deeper than KotOR and Baldur's Gate! But I didn't know that until I stumbled upon it and thus my ME1 copy was bought late and gave them almost no money.

And one is never alone with pretty much anything.

Uhm omg look what Mello just posted!!!!

Cullen, are you shining again? We've talked about this. Not outside of my bedroom!

Seriously though, I really like the artwork. Gives off a nice sense of motion =) Evildoers beware, the Cull's out tonight!

Well I think you guys have reacted as every other fan of his/hers idol would, I mean im sure that if someone were to bash Morrigan's fans or Cass those ppl would react the same way, so I dont understand why we should be considered as the "crazy" ppl here

Dare I say it? I think much of it, not necessarily all but much of it, comes from how we're mostly all female. A man raises a passionate argument, a woman is frantic. A man is socially skilled, a woman is cackling. Etc etc.

Agreed. If I'd have to choose between having Cullen as a companion or an LI, I'd go with companion every time. I mean, I don't even like my fav DA2 character's romance (Isabela). It's not like not having a romance is necessarily a bad thing.

.... not that I'd mind a Cullen romance, don't get me wrong!

She wasn't bad, she was hardlined due to her past and experiences. It was the red lyrium that corrupted her, but even during that final fight she started having second thoughts... the idol had too much control over her by that point though.

Hey, you're right!

Flemeth can't even be considered bad, because all in all we don't know her grand plan.

So no big bad gal and no protag gal...wow...

I can so see some of this stuff ending up getting quoted somewhere. Our conversations that is.

But yeah, I didn't think of Meredith that way. Damnit! We need a big bad gal. Lets hope they're throwing us way off. Maybe we get a bad gal and good Cullen companion story....

Anyone got a Genie Lamp I can borrow?

In their defence, we've had two definitive Big Bads, (since we're not allowed to count Broodmothers, (Mother)), the Archdemon, (and the genders of the Old Gods are debateable), and Corypheus. Sure Loghain did many reprehensible things, but it was in the name of protecting Ferelden, (while also being blinded by his hatred of the Orlesians). The Arishok is only evil if you completely disagree with the Qun, which I don't by the way. We've had villainous characters, but most have been morally grey. And Howe gets a free pass because of Tim Curry. Tim Curry gets all the free passes!

Did you see that picture from the Sprint Review of the screen with all the plot flags for Dragon Age keep? That's a lot of options and decisions we'll need to adapt/create.

I think Berelinde was talking about villians in games in general, rather than just BioWare games.

Oh well that is definitely true. Heard rumours that Pokemon X and Y are getting their first female villain Team leader which I am excited about. Which is sad in itself, we shouldn't be happy to just have important female characters in a game.

Yeah, villains in general, definitely, and BioWare gets no free pass. Men are immune. They can be gorgeous or hideous, they'll be judged by their actions. If a female does nasty sh!t, she'd better look the part. I dream of the day when we'll meet a sweet-faced, doe-eyed villainess. It will smell like freedom.

By the way, I've started a topic because I'm really curious about peoples' thoughts. I won't demand that anyone reply (I can't very well, can I? But I really do want to hear what my friends have to say on the subject.

Out of interest Berelinde, have you played Ace Attorney: Trials and Tribulations? I think a certain character in that might be to your tastes, she's one of my favourite villains of all time.

No. My RPG preferences are very limited, as are my reading ones. I don't generally read Urban Fantasy, nor do I play more "modern" RPG. I'm not saying they aren't good. I just don't devote a lot of time to it, so I limit my repertoire. To be honest, I spend most of my free time modding, writing characters and quests that fit into BioWare RPG, specifically the Baldur's Gate series. That isn't *all* I know, but I don't stray too far from it. Anyway, in the genre I follow, you encounter very few attractive female villains. Moire in NWN2 is the most notable exception.

A poll? Wait, was that the one about how long it takes people to create their character in the CC? I wonder if they pay attention to the responses in the Twitter thread here on the forums, along with responses on Twitter?

Yes that poll :D I said I spent an hour, and then if the option is available to me, every time I start the game I always make a pit stop in CC *Dragon's Dogma lol*
