Pippi Longstocking is too badass to be a Mary Sue ^^
Sure is!
(Although, now I keep picturing her as a self-insert with Astrid Lindgren in striped stockings and braids..
)
A version of that would've been so much more badass to have on our money than
the picture of her we'll be getting on our 20 kronor bills.

By the way, a tip for those who enjoy games with nice storytelling! I just finished "Brothers - A Tale of Two Sons", which is basically a single-player co-op game. You control two characters at once, solving puzzles along the way.
Ooohh, I'll check it out! =D

I've been playing Final Fantasy 9, but the only thing that drives me to rage quit is the constant battle encounters. Like, you take 2 steps and you trigger a battle, then you take 2 more steps and trigger yet another battle. Rinse. Repeat.
Does my ****ing head in.
The battles are definitely the one thing holding FF9 back. It's a terrific game in pretty much all respects (it even has a reward for speeding your way through it in less than 15h or so, how cool is that for an optional feature?), but the encounter rate is pretty high and the battles are sloooow even on the maximum speed setting. The ATB bars fill slowly, the game hides the loading times for all its battle animations with these long arse casting animations, the animations are pretty lengthy etc...
And while it's a strategically sound option to equip all four characters with Auto-Potion, you want to strangle yourself every time an enemy hits your entire party with some semi-decent spell or worse. That's a good 30 seconds or so of staring blindly into the screen watching your party members drink potions right there.
Argh! >_< Played it through with my partner earlier this year so the memories of the slowness are still fresh in my mind, heh heh. The plot, characters and soundtrack are all absolutely top notch though.

Yeah, alot of the Final Fantasies are like that. It can be annoying, but I consider it a good thing. Unlike alot of newer games where you can play from start to finish with minimum grinding, you have to level up alot in the older things in order to better fight certain bosses or enemies.
You don't really need to grind in FF9 in my experience. Not unless you plan on taking on the optional boss. To me, that's a good thing, cause wow those battles are slow xD
Older FFs, especially FF3(nes) require more grinding but I don't mind since the fights are quick and to the point with no wasted time.
