Just been reading a bit in the 'should there be a marriage option' post on the inquisition forum. It made me remember that I was really wondering why there was no such option in DA:2 (I mean, Aveline can... and you can have a relationship for 7+ years). Personally, I do not care much about it IRL (does not say more 'I love you' imo), but I would have thought it to be great for roleplay purposes. Especially if you take into account the historical context. Heck, it could have even been an epilogue thing (as kinda sorta happens with Sebastians chaste marriage?), but perhaps with an actual engagement somewhere along the way? Obviously all optional, as not everyone is into it (and I assume that some characters are more into it than others).
Been playing DA:O with the Gilmore NPC mod lately, and at the end he proposed his lover warden. Thought it was so uber cute!
And for the record: IF there would be ingame marriage, I would want it to have actual meaning and not skyrims 'lawl, stay home and cook for me!' Hence the 'epilogue is fine too'
I always wanted to discuss marriage with Anders, especially when I played as a mage. It would have been another thing for him to get on his soap box about (so it would be consistant! XD) and something for my own character to feel about. Did Essery want to marry Anders? How did she feel about not being able to do so? Did she blame the Maker? Did she blame the Chantry? Would Essery have proposed to Anders, for "When he made them free"?
It could have been really interesting.
In DAI, I think marriage would be a harder sell, especially if it's timeline is more like DAO, which i assume it will. DA2 had a longer romance, with places of actual peace in between the chaos, and so a marriage wouldn't have felt so out of place there. Unless they pull a Pirates and have Cassandra officiating while the Inquisitor and Cullen are fighting off Red Templars. XD
To be even more on topic, perhaps Cullen would want to get married. I am uncertain how Andrastians view pre-marital sex (not too terribly, I assume) but it is implied that templar recruits aren't allowed to visit the brothel, so perhaps it's stricter for them? But not chaste-like, as (I believe) David Gaider said templars don't have to take vows of chasity. And there is Ser Wesley to consider.
