So, BioWare will have a presence at Gamex (again!), DigiExpo and SpillExpo with Dragon Age Inquisition! More info to come soon :)

I'll tell you guys everything I learn! =)

I'm going on the Friday. :o

Last year was fantastic for the BW fans. We had panels with Chris, Jessica and Holly, movie screenings and a VIP Grey Warden dinner party with Cosplay. That's not going to happen this year, but it will still be most excellent. ^_^

You were one of those invited for the actual dinner? I'm so jealous~ =) Sounds like it was a lot of fun from what I read. Well, aside from the technical issues.

I only got there for the after party, myself.

No worries, I have just arrived at work for another day of spamming Image IPB And I had a dream about being invited for dinner with the DA devs with the whole Cullen thread... I think I'll just keep on dreaming Image IPB

So not to be a party pooper, but I always thought that picking and choosing your fans, isn't the nicest thing to do. I was at Gamescom this year and it took me all my courage to go to the BW "mini base", cause it looked so professional and I totally felt out of place. I also was sick with the cold, but I drove 3 hours to Koeln, so I made myself go in.

In front of me was a group of people that knew each other, about 6 people or so and one of them was dressed as a female mage warden. Anyway, some other fans walked by dressed up a male and female Shepard and as Tali, those guys were ushered into the room quickly to take pictures I assume, after that they let the female in that was dressed as the mage and her friends. I was left standing in the hallway with another male fan. I heard the people responsible for letting the fans in talking, saying they would start the meeting and after more fans arrive, they would let us (me and the other male fan) inside. Shepard/Tali guys left after a couple minutes.

So to sum it up, they let the cos player in to take pictures, but only with certain fans that meet their "criteria". Marketing at it's finest.

For some reason they came back out of the room and told us to come in "Only you two?". That I felt awkward as hell is the nicest thing I can say. I sat in one of the corners on some weird bean bag and the other guy sat behind the group of friends. All I wanted to say is that feeling like an afterthought has not helped my impression on certain people that work for BW/EA. I don't blame the devs that were there, they were all very nice and friendly.

Personally I would have liked to just wait for another meeting to start and not being put into the room with everyone else already seated and having to awkwardly getting this bean bag to work. I felt bad for that guy that was with me, he looked like a shy, out of place kind of guy that was not comfortable in there and I just wanted to hug him and take him outside with me, but he was a lot bigger than me, so ...... yeah

I understand that some fans put more effort in their "fandom", that doesn't mean that their better/bigger fans than people that "only" play the game and read the books. You should treat them all with respect and don't pick and choose. I'm a 31 years old female and was at a gaming convention on my own, I already got plenty of weird looks which I expected, having some employees of BW/EA make me feel like crap was pretty low on my expectations list.

I'm sorry, I think I kind of ruined it for myself for expecting too much, so don't go there with too much hope so you won't be as dissapointed as I was.

Urgh, that sounds really, really crappy. If it were me that probably would have ruined my entire experience and left me depressed for a week after the fact.
Being an afterthought is never a good feeling.

It did ruin the experience, since BW was the reason I was there. Talking with the Dev's did remedy some of it, like I said above they were all very nice.

That sucks indeed Chianti :( My opinion is that every fan should be treated as equally important, whether they are 'famous, advertising fans' or 'the wallflower who only plays the game'. No one is better than the other. I would give them the finger if I got such a treatment...
I really want to go to gamescon next year, as I have never been to any con, would like to meet fellow fans and am looking forward to DA:I. Bit wary of the huge amount of people though... Apparently they shut down the doors at a certain point due to 'too many visitors' last year (bad organisation imo...)? Heck, I would be extremely pissed off to drive for 2-3 hours to something I have been really looking forward to, only to get my access denied and get a bad treatment for not being important enough.

Btw, 28 years old female here, and I would probably go alone too or maybe with a colleague from France who is pretty much into cosplay and games (I still want to get him into a templar costume >.>)

Edit: my dream was not about 'us' being more important or whatever than other fans. It was just a nice initiative of BW to meet up with some random fans and show their appreciation too, and as we were all there at that moment, it happened to be us.

Gamescom in itself is still worth it to at least see once. As I understand it is the second biggest in the world! If it is possible try to go during the week then it is not as full. Avoid Saturday/Sunday like the plague as everyone comes on the weekend and on Sunday they do family day, unless of course whoever you want to see only comes on the weekend.

I'll just keep my fingers crossed that everyone is there on thursday/friday. I had already figured to avoid the weekend, but was not sure whether the other days would be as horrible. Thanks for the heads up Image IPB I guess it might be worth it to go two days (thursday and friday) in order to see more of the whole fair. Been at the Koeln messe for a trade fair earlier this year, so I know it is HUGE, especially if you want to hang out at places.

I wonder what the line of thinking here was. Let the cosplayers in first to make other people feel more amazed as they enter the room (it's pretty cool to see groups of cosplayers and a company can really benefit from them simply being there), and then they were surprised there were only the two of you? I have little other way of figuring out in my head just how and why such an event would transpire.

Either way, I'm sure it freaking sucked. It's hard enough to elbow your way into a social group where people know each other and you're an outsider. Doing so when they're already seated when you enter the room to sit down on your bean bag must be incredibly much more difficult. Now that's a situation that renders even most extroverts into perfect wallflowers. And being made into a wallflower when that's not how you want to be is absolutely terrible =\\

Very bad planning on their part, for sure.

Maybe they tried to not have too many people in there at once? But nevertheless, not the most tactical solution...

They had the cos player take pictures with the Dev's, which is fine. I mean those people put a lot of effort in the costumes and they should be rewarded for it. I'm not upset in the slightest that I didn't get to take a picture, seeing as I don't like to have picture taken at all. But then only let in the cos player and do your thing, then let in the other fans.

I know I'm not a target group and I looked like **** that day being sick and I just dragged my behind out of bed to go to the BW meeting. I also wouldn't have minded to wait for the next meeting, it was the shoving us in at the last minute that was annoying, I felt awkward as hell.

I felt the same when I went to that DAI London demo reveal. It was full of press and they all knew each other, and there was I being completely ignored. Then once they realised a dev invited me they were all suddenly trying to suck up to me... weird, horrible experience.

Seeing the demo early was awesome, but the rest of the day turned out to be very revealing (not in a good way). Tbh I wish I hadn't gone to it at all, the whole experience really put a huge downer on my excitement for the game.

Do people feel like time is flying by, or time is dragging on?

For me, it's like, "Damn! We're already halfway through October!" But keep in mind that I have a toddler,  I'm 8 months pregnant, I'm going to college, and I work 16 hour shifts for my job on the weekends to make up for not working during the weekdays for school. I have very little, if any, free time. By the time Winter break hits, I'll have about a week or so before my new baby arrives, unless he decides to be early, or late. By the time I'm starting up school again, it'll already be halfway through January.

And only 7 - 9 months until Inquisition. And I'm sure time will really be flying by for me then, cause I'll have all of that, plus my 2 year old and my newborn.

So what about you guys? Is it flying by, or dragging on?

It feels like a bit of both for me.

From a day to day stand point it feels like it's dragging, but then I blink and another month has gone by and now it's nearly Christmas, lol. I definitely feel like time flies by quicker when I'm busy or have other things to keep me occupied.

I think the hardest part of the wait will be the 2 or 3 weeks before the game ships.

:( I vote for equal treatment! Of course I would like getting a compliment if I would wear a costume, but I would hate it if I would get preference over someone else, because said person did not dress up...

The one time I got swarmed was when I walked into a London Games Workshop with 2 (male) friends and the guys discovered that I was actually into miniatures... "oh, please mail us and send some pictures!" One of those friends had to put effort in trying to get one to help him.... awkward XD

So, what's the consensus here on the likelihood of Cullen being a companion?

I go for quite likely. Greg Ellis has been voice-acting for Cullen, and the setting fits for him.
And we have been begging for years

I think he will be a companion. Based on what we know of the Greg Ellis tweet, concept art, fan reaction to the character, (and I think dev reaction as well), he's going to be in the game in one way or another, and have an important role. He's had a pretty impressive character arc already for just an NPC. Even if we assume the DLC companion will be included in the 'nine companions', there's still room for him.

One companion of each class is confirmed so far: Cassandra, Varric and Vivienne. We also saw two figures in the Game Informer videos that highly resembled Sera and Warden McBeardface. The Iron Bull has also been heavily featured in concept art and trailers, and even Patrick Weekes' twitter account. If the tradition continues of a warrior heavy party, Cullen could easily fill the spot of a warrior. Furthermore, it's unlikely any of the other warriors, (apart from maybe Cassandra), has had templar training which is an important niche. Not only that, we do need a spokesperson for the Templars in our party, something we haven't really had, (Alistair arguably). Cullen could fill that role.

I think it's somewhat contingent on this "Iron Bull" fellow being a companion. We know Cassandra is a warrior companion, and assuming we're following the rough 2-2-2 model for classes, that just leaves one spot open for a warrior.

My own gut feeling is this Iron Bull is an adversary of the Inquisition. If that were the case, Cullen's chances of being in the squad go up considerably.

If he's a mercenery, I think he could quite easily be lifted right out of the game and be made a DLC character. The only thing that concerns me is the fact that he's featured reasonably heavily in marketting so far.

I do not think he has a good chance of being a companion :( The Greg Ellis tweet confirms (in a way) he's in the game, but he will probably be an NPC. I believe he might've been in the running to be a companion initially, at the time of the survey leak, but he was passed over other warriors: Cassandra, the Grey Warden, and Iron Bull. I don't see DA:I having four warriors.

Well I suppose these days purchasing the game and attending the conference does not make you a "good enough" fan. You have to put on a Halloween costume despite the fact that you are an adult. That does anger me. I'm sorry you guys were treated poorly by staffers at these events.

BW is in love with cosplayers. Frankly I find it a little embarrassing. They have "professional" cosplays in Holly Conrad and Jessica Merizan, which I (if I'm being 100% honest) find utterly ridiculous. And then in DA2 we lost the ability to change companion armor so that cosplayers could do their thing with more ease and accuracy. Even in DA:I we're still not going to be able to put them in whatever outfit we want. They will still have an "iconic shape." That annoys me.

I'm guessing unlikely. Cassandra fills the spot for the whole Seeker/Templar pov. Plus, from the companions we've heard about (and seen "accidentally" popping up in the GI videos) in my opinion it seems likely that he won't be.

But Seekers aren't Templars, right? Templar abilities require lyrium and only Templars receive lyrium. Seekers are just there to regulate and oust any Chantry corruption. So Cassandra shouldn't necessarily have the Templar skills.

I doubt they would feature him so heavily in marketing and then make him a DLC character.

Chances are good he's an adversary, likely a Dragon working for the Big Bad. I mean, the cat's out of the bag that he's in the game, so why not say he's a companion? There's also the tone of his appearances.

I'm sorry that Chantirose was made to wait out in the hall for this thing she went to, but let's not place the blame at the feet of the cosplayers. BW has always been poor at organizing these promotional things.

There were other technical reasons for iconic appearances in DA2; inter-changeable armour suits gave us generic-looking hornless qunari and mighty morphin' suits of armour that could fit either Oghren or Sten. And BW hiring Jessica and Holly ain't so different than Irrational Games hiring that Russian cosplayer, Anna Moleva, and using her likeness in the box art and TV ads.
