If there's anything that worries me into thinking Cullen might not be a companion, that's actually a post of Jennifer Hepler's on
the Kickstarter for Ambrov X. I quote;
"And the reality is that on a large game, things change – followers get cut, or downgraded to non-romanceable, or gender-swapped. And in a party-based RPG, it has to be gameplay that guides such decisions – whether a follower is the much-needed mage or rogue is often more important than how well-written they are, or how much their personal arc might get under your skin."I just can't help but feel that this part of her longer post came from somewhere. Seeing as she wrote Cullen previously, it wouldn't be surprising if she would be reprising the role of writing him. Cullen was in the original leak where those polled got to rate how interesting they found various characters, and he is most likely of the class that seems to have the most contenders... add this all together and it's hard to not get a little pessimistic to me.
But I still hold hope! =)

You were one of those invited for the actual dinner? I'm so jealous~ =) Sounds like it was a lot of fun from what I read. Well, aside from the technical issues.
I only got there for the after party, myself.
I sat next to Evil Chris. Epiiiic!
If you are at Gamex on the Friday maybe we can meet up?
So Lola what happened at that event that was so bad?
You sat next to Huggable Chris? I am so jelly =D
And sure, I'm all up for meeting up! I'll be there all days.

But I do pick up that they are baffled by Cullen's popularity. Being baffled about other people's fascination with one's own character is troubling (for that character). I mean if I ever got my act together and edited and published one of my stories, and suddenly people became obsessed with this minor character who appears in three chapters for five paragraphs, I wouldn't suddenly feel inspired to write a whole novel about that guy.
Turn that frown upside down, didn't David state in an interview a while ago that there is a lot that could be explored through/with Cullen's character? I'm wary to say exactly what he said, or even that he said it, but I remember reading something like that and remembering the old interview where David had said the interest in Cullen was baffling to him.
And when I think about why there would be such a contrast... that'd either be,
1) A different developer talking and giving their own thoughts; my memory's just off
2) Proof that the writers have gotten inspired and changed their minds about Cullen after reviewing old material/forum posts
3) PR speech to ensure no fans are disappointed this early
