Every piece of information from PAX Prime that I can find, a talk-through of the DAI demo/brief thing about how I got to see it in London a few days prior to it coming out at PAX, and additional info that's come out since.

Good. I haven't been able to keep up with all of the info on Inquisition, what with work and school, so I'm definitely going to watch it once you post it.LolaLei wrote...

This is what I'd like to do as well. Particularly if folks like Cullen or Beardy Grey Warden or Chill or Cassandra (wow that list got long!) are going to be romanceable. Cullen should be 34+. Cassandra likely the same, at least mid-thirties. BGWMahumia wrote...
I am headcanoning the inquisitor to be about 30-35, so he/she will be around the same age as the warden and Hawke are at that time.
Anyhoo, it could be that MLaw is just being cagey about the fact that DA character ages always look "indeterminate," but I'm still hopeful it means that it's not set this time.

This is really the only very active character thread left.
While we all love Cullen, we all also have our favorite DA:O/DA2 character, so no worries And feel free to talk about Merrill, too... though I think we try not to diverge from the thread topic too much, lest we get shut down lol!
I might recommend it; she's the tankiest mage possible. I also think her romance scene is by far the best, and not solely because of bias; it's the only one where you get to see actual cuddling, for instance.Xil, honestly you're welcome to hang in our refuge as well! That is, if you can handle the templar love from time to time. As others have said, we're pretty much a free for all these days, with a strong hint of Cullen. Personally, I don't know much about Merrill since I never really took her anywhere with me, but then that's probably about equivalent to what I've seen of Cullen as well! LOL

TBH, I'm most familiar with her romance scene since I've swapped the hell out of it (and Cullen looks stunning as rumpled, bedroom-eyes Hawke. LOL). I particularly like the ending, the way they show a little insight into how tender their relationship is.
I always want to mentor Merrill, tho, instead of romance her. I hate rivaling her, since she's cute as a button, but I have real difficulty supporting her mirror shenanigans. I always felt like none of the dialogue options really fit what I wanted to say/do.

Is Merrill really yours to mentor, though? I mean, despite her stature, she is an adult and can make her own decisions on this matter, and supporting her is more supporting her than the Eluvian. Something like "I don't know if this is really a good idea, but I'll do my best to help you if you think so."I always want to mentor Merrill, tho, instead of romance her. The reason I didnt really trusted her was because she fell to temptation when I went into the fade to save Fenryel, I know she means well and shes one of the nicest caracters in the game, and I would hate for her to be taken over by a demon:(

Everyone gets mind controlled in the Fade, it's a demonic power. You don't have to rival her for things to turn out well; really, it's far better with her friended.ag99 wrote...

Well, even adults need mentoring throughout life and career, so that's not to imply she's a child. I can't help but feel a more avuncular type affection for her, tho, which is why I also don't really want to romance her [and that's just my own preference]. Mentoring is also a two-way street. So, my wanting to do so only means that: that I want to. If she doesn't want it, then fine. But, that's the hard thing with an RPG, tho, no? In reality, my comments sort of control what she can/can't do. Like, I always want to refuse the arulenholm (can't remember the spelling) altogether.Xilizhra wrote...

Arulin'holm. Although I'm moved to say that that, again, is not really your place; it's a Dalish request ritual that Merrill went through, and which Marethari actually cheated on by giving the thing to Hawke rather than Merrill.R2s Muse wrote...

Oh I didn't mean to rival her, I was trying to get her friendship hight but I guess I messed up with that and I got the rival relationship. It was still ok but I would have prefered to have friended relationship. But everytime she asks me to help her with the mirror , idk I kind of want to help her but at the same time I want to protect her from whatever evil that was in that mirror according to what the keeper said

Since my first protagonist in a new game is always me, I just try to get her to look as close to the same age/skin tone etc that I do. Dunno what age group that is in the sliders though.

And, again, I'm not suggesting it's my place. It's not my responsibility to force mentoring on colleagues or friends I think might need it, so I wouldn't unless asked. Now, personally, I think that everyone needs a little mentoring now and again, because that's what the mentoring literature shows, but there's no cosmic scale that determines if someone does actually need it about an individual situation/decision/whatever. It would just be my opinion. That also doesn't stop me from feeling the inclination to do so sometimes. A side effect of getting old, perhaps, or just my personality. Who knows.

I can understand why you'd want to do so, certainly. I just have a sort of tendency to be leery of desires to do that, as I'm highly sensitive to the existence of rivalry (especially the rivalmance) and tend to argue fervently against that.I just wish we'd had the option for Marethari to just deal directly with Merrill about it. I hated being put in the middle of it.

I can also understand that. Identifying someone as needing to be protected, particularly from herself, takes away some of her agency as an individual. So, I think sometimes Merrill isn't given the credit she's due as an adult who knows more about the Dalish mirror stuff than we do. That being said, if I recall the ending of her quest correctly, the demon was indeed tricking her, right? So that also can't help but color one's interactions with her on subsequent playthroughs.Xilizhra wrote...

I've only written a tiny bit of Merrill in fanfic, but I like to picture her as someone who's seeming simplicity sometimes masks her inner wisdom. That hidden in the sometimes silly things she's says is a certain clarity about the world.

The demon wearing Marethari's skin said she'd been tricked; the same demon who then bombards Merrill with visions of dead elves heckling her during the battle. Quite frankly, I wouldn't put it past the thing to just want to demoralize Merrill.I can also understand that. Correct me if I'm wrong, I know the keeper has taken the demon within her to protect Merril, but if the keeper wasn't strong enough she wouldn't have told Merril to stay away from the mirror, if the keeper wouldn't have taken the demon in her, dont you think it would have possesed Merril instead?
