Wow!! That dress is, uh... a little on the ****ty side LOL I wish companies would make cute geek clothes for women that weren't ****ty. Even the t-shirts are usually low-necked >.<

Really? I have a much harder time being friends w/ Fenris when he is romanced by Hawke. I usually romance him w/ mage characters though, and find it hard to be pro-circle when I do so. Anytime I play a pro-templar character, they usually don't start supporting the templars until Act II, after they've seen some bad forms of magic and become more knowledgable of mages in general outside their own family.

Oh yeah I usually play as a rogue. And what I mean about romancing him is, you can get like 20+ the first time you talk to him, then points for sleeping with him, flirting with him, giving him gifts, etc. So long as you don't take him on mage quests like "Act of Mercy" he is actually pretty easy to friendmance. And just be clever, like for Feynriel's quest, let him kill the slaver, then send his cute butt home if you want to later send Feynriel to the Dalish :P (Although some of my pro-mage Hawke's actually sent him to the Circle, on account of his dreams alone.)

I'm with you there on the geek clothes. I buy guy's stuff and then modify it because a guy's Batman t-shirt won't be partly see-through-thin compared to a woman's and it won't be ridiculously body hugging. THEN I cut the sleeves short - since they come to my elbows otherwise and maybe widen the neck a bit and trim the bottom into a nice feminine line. Or sometimes, I make tank tops out of them. I did that with a Darth Vader shirt. It has a collarbone high neck and the shoulders are about 2 inches wide and it does fit close to the body - not hugging it, but skimming it. And the fabric is thick enough to put up with all of this instead of falling apart. And it says "Who's your daddy?" on it. Which I love because, Leia.  I also have an off-the-shoulder Transformers t-shirt that used to be a dude's shirt and I get soooo many women going, "I LOVE that! Where can I buy one? All the shirts I see are too tight or thin but I like the off-shoulder thing."

Same thing goes for Pajamas. I see guys with nice comic print pants that are loose and comfy but the women's variety is a short pair of short with the relevant comic character symbol over the backside of them or something equally tasteless. <_<

Sorry. I've really gone on a bit, but it irks me.

Onto Fenris! Usually I prefer rogues but to romance Fenris, I... Um... I found the rivalmance was more engaging... I couldn't stand Fenris during any even slightly pro-mage playthrough because of the constant harping. THEN I did a completely pro-mage PT and thought I'd have Hawke romance Anders but Fenris kind of stole the show on that. He even started to seem a tiny bit more open minded about mages by the end of it. (Or it could have been me and my wishful thinking )

I should add, that the only time I tried romancing Merrill (yes, I did try) I had Fenris along and he was such a d!ckb@g while she was there, that I gave him to Danarius out of spite. *toes ground* The only time I don't want to feed Fenris a silverite covered knuckle sandwich is when I romance him this way.

After that, I tried the same with Anders, a balls-to-the-wall pro-templar PT with a rivalmance; and while there was lot that was intriguing about it; I felt too much like I was kicking an injured puppy at times and stopped romancing him only to get tired of his ranting and abandoned the PT. Then I tried to do the whole pro-mage thing while romancing him and that didn't work for me either. I was like "Dude! You're preaching to the choir here; knock it off!"  So I returned to the previous pro-templar PT and went back to a previous save before Hawke broke up with him and took it from there. But the difference is; I started gradually making Hawke choose middle ground options and moving her more and more towards a pro-mage POV over the course of the game. Sadly, it's the only PT I can stand Anders in. And Fenris is in the same boat.  And I can't select them both to go wherever Hawke goes, simultaneously. So whenever I'm focusing on Fenris (or the one time I gave Seb a go), my Hawke has to be healer. lol! Irony, huh?

If we get Fiona, I do hope she's unkillable.

So she's a badass? Or just to avoid 'dead mom' syndrome for Alistair?

In part, but also to shut up everyone who keeps wanting to kill her.

Huh, I also wasn't aware that there are so many folks who want to kill her. She wasn't my favorite character in the Calling and her part in Asunder was pretty limited (and caused a much milder reaction for me than, say, Adrian or Lambert). Neither situation made me hate her. I'm just really curious about her, given her intersection with so many interesting facets of the game, Grey Wardens, Blight/Architect, Maric/Alistair, Circle of Magi. Of course, I also want that Come to Andraste moment with Alistair so we can find out once and for all.

I know, right? It's one of those burning questions that must be answered.

I didn't know so many want the option to kill off Fiona, either. There sure are enough who want to be able to kill Cullen, though! But Fiona? Still, if there is a demand for it, my two cents is that it should be possible. I want anyone who would rather kill Cullen, to have that option and for those of us who don't to have other options. I'd want the same for any character, really. So I think having it for Fiona makes sense. I can see the devs doing it (to any character) if they weren't going to use that character anymore, since they said they weren't going to retcon anymore deaths after the backlash from fans who felt their personal canons had been stepped on after a character they thought to be dead returned very much alive. This is the reason, I suspect we'll never see Anders again. Well... they are the devs... they may come up with some fantastic explanation for a resurrection but my hopes aren't high. I think making a character unkillable just means the players will be clamoring for the option during the next game's development.

I don't know that I support the notion that everyone should be able to kill off any character they don't like. While I see some deaths making sense for the story and understand folks being annoyed when such a chosen death is retconned, I don't like the notion of playing Grand Theft Dragon Age. I think the murder knife options for solving certain quests is entertaining (at least, via youtube, since I've never done it), but being able to go out and kill whoever you want seems extreme. So, while I support anyone's right to hate Cullen or Fiona or whoever, supporting their right to kill whoever honestly gives me pause. I'd prefer that you could "unfriend" followers and just never see them again or whatever. Plus an unkillable character removes the need for retcon rage (although it'll just be replaced by rage over something else, I suppose).

I can sympathise with the Fiona stabbage. If she is in the game, as the Grand Enchanter, if the title even holds any weight anymore, she's going to be pretty close to the top of the Mage Revolution thing. And if we play as an Inquisitor who isn't pro-liberation-of-the-mages, she's going to be a pretty big obstacle to our Inquisiting.

I sympathise less with the stabbing of the randomers and companions. Can't we just say begone and they be gone?

Agreed. If it makes sense for a character to be optional murder knife fodder, then by all means go stab happy. BUT, having them killable for the sake of spilling blood or "fan-hate" seems a bit pointless, especially if it's a character that could be useful for future DA games. A lot of people in the BSN may like the idea of having everyone killable, but they're usually the first to ****** and moan when a character suddenly comes back from the dead.

I, for one, am very glad that Cullen wasn't killable in DA2. While I can certainly see why a lot of people don't like him, and would be totally cool with it if he does turn out to be an optional kill in DAI, I really don't think he's had his time to shine yet. I'd prefer him to get his big chance in DAI out the way, put his point across, answer all/most of the burning questions that people have been desperate to ask him, AND THEN the option to kill him should happen.

At least that way he'll have had his fair share of the action.

So, I've begun my online Christmas shopping this weekend and was reminded of something that may interest some of the Cullenites who haven't seen it.

Scent of a Warden's custom NPC perfumes. [A customer review] description of "Knight-Captain Cullen" sounds delightful (and delightfully in character). It seems the store is on a short hiatus, so dunno if it would work for the holidays. But there ya go.

This is crisp white Templar insignias. This is freshly washed skin. This is gentleness solidified.

This is the scent of memories. Of regret. Of warm eyes behind a cold silver blade.

It’s kind. Gentile. But deadly. It’s conflicting at every turn to produce one of the most amazing perfumes I’ve ever come across.

It’s warm honey sunshine mixed with stumbling over wild flowers on the morning rounds. It’s the calming smell of the wooden shield that protects you from the cold. It’s the lingering myrrh from the mornings Chantry visit and the sweet orange from the evenings meal. It’s the metallic sting of a blade. But it’s masculine oh so masculine. It’s delicious. Warm male skin and a slight curve of his smile. It’s Cullen. It isn’t just a scent that makes you think of Cullen - it’s the actual scent of the man standing infront of you and I’ve never been so in love with him as I am now.

A very good point. I don't want to play Grand Theft Dragon Age either. I suppose I should have considered that caveat because I don't mean literally everyone. I think it's a logical option for some characters and it should be there when it makes sense. To have a character you can't disssociate from when you really wish to is irksome, for me at any rate.

Yeah, agree that having options is good! I find it funny how often folks complain about followers they didn't need to recruit in the first place. But then again, how do you know they annoy you if you don't first recruit them? LOL So finding a way to unload them in some way could be helpful. Perhaps that was the point of the dispproval half of the spectrum in DA:O, that if the follower hates  you enough they'll leave. For me, it only served as a source of stress  that I'd accidentally lose somebody, so I'd turn into a kiss@ass metagamer. :P

Too bad I do not have anyone to buy Cullen parfume for...

And I do not get the 'let's murderknife everyone' hype either... Makes me more like *stepping backwards... slowly* Sometimes the option makes sense, so it is nice to have it included for those cases. But to kill everyone and their dog just for the sake of being able to...? Seriously...?

Okay guys. So I'm working on a paper that I'll be presenting at a conference this Spring. It's on women and gaming, and how women redirect the male gaze via modding. Example: Creating sexy male armor for male characters, when the base game only has sexy female armor.

Anyone have a picture and a link to that mod that people sometimes post here, of Cullen (or is it Alistair) in the sexy DA:O armor?

Also any other mods you know of, in any other game, that were created by women, and created to please the female gaze/gamer.

Or just anything you can think of, like fanfiction, fanart, etc. Any fan artists and writers here who'd like to give me permission to display (anonymously, if they prefer) their work? NOT publish without their permission. Just briefly display during a presentation.

EDIT: If you also just have a statement you'd like to offer as a female gamer (or even better, as a female modder / fanfic writer / fan artist), that would also be awesome. And if I use it I'll maybe ask for your basic bio info, like age, etc :P

EDIT: Another example would be the wedding mods, like the Alistair wedding mod, or the Brynjolf wedding mod.

It's not quibbling; it's just a small project at present, primarily focused on the straight female gaze. If it's successful, it will branch out. Give me any input you like!

Also I can see how this could get off topic, so you guys all feel free to send me PMs. I'll friend anyone who wants to do so :) (Since you have to be friends to send PMs now.)

EDIT: I can also PM my email so we could talk more freely that way if needed.

All right. It's not a big issue, I just feel mildly forlorn with the "female gaze" concept only being used to apply to attractive men.

Feel free to use my fanfic (not that I have many). Myself, although I don't mind watching some smexy fanart, would not use mods to give the male characters sexy armor. Eye candy is one thing, but I am not into abusing it and make characters walk around without protection (cause somehow that kind of fantasy armor seems to be like: the less it covers, the better it protects you?). I'm more into off-hour eye candy XD Actually, I have not seen many 'sexy male' mods? Apart from other faces/hair, that is.

I like mods which add extra emotion to ingame events (like the Cullen mod for mage origin and wedding mod for Alistair). I know I am seriously missing stuff like that for Skyrim (or I am just bad at searching)... I'm spoiled with Bioware's level of characters, I guess... I like depth in characters and their relations. I am also an 'interactive story-mode' gamer instead of an 'active button smashing and searching for difficulty'. I like social aspects and the ability to use my fantasy and create somewhat my own story.

Hi guys! This is my first forum post, although I've been reading for awhile. :)

I'm relatively new to the Dragon Age series, still in my first playthrough. I've finished DA2 and am about halfway through DA:O. (Yes, I did them in reverse order. Not a very good decision on my part.) I found Cullen a very intriguing character with layers yet to be explored, and I was happy to see there's a discussion thread about him.

I do hope we get to see more of him in the next game. (Literally, ideally... ;))

Thanks! Yeah, first playthrough, but spoilers aren't a big deal to me. I find the journey as interesting as the result when it comes to games, so knowing what's coming doesn't ruin my enjoyment.
