Mmmm, now THIS I would want to see.

"Failing that, Cullen will demand the PC leave. Only an Aggressive PC can demand that Cullen take them to see his sister—which, after a tense standoff, Cullen will agree… but only for Bethany’s sake. Otherwise, he will agree to take Bethany a letter (if the PC has it), but the PC will be removed from the Gallows."

Makes me wonder if perhaps he would've been friends with Bethany in DA2 (or possibly crushing on her).

I know some people think he's a heartless killer 'n' stuff, but those kind of actions seen in this hypothetical quest definitely reiterates the fact that DG sees Cullen as a moderate Templar.

Definitely interesting.

I could see Cullen having a crush on Bethany, but I could even more so see him having big brother-ish type feelings toward her, particularly if the Warden was an Amell - that he might feel protective of a relative of his first love.

And I agree, this definitely shows his softer side. He wouldn't have to help, nothing to gain by doing so... but he does it. Not to say he isn't a killer too, he is (as are a lot of the characters in DA,) but there's more to him than just that.

I can really only see the big brother-ish connection; I don't know, something about her age and gender makes me uncomfortable. I would rather Cullen crush on a woman closer to his age. Even though I suppose the age difference between them is only about 10 years or so...?

Plus it's like, yet another innocent young Amell mage girl that he can't be with. That's just wrong lol

Yes, my biggest issue with that pairing is it screams "Well I couldn't get the first one, but she is close enough." This is actually something that can happen when people chose a partner. Usually the person who is a substitute is either completely oblivious or never feels good enough, sometimes trying to be more like the "one that got away" for their partner. It's a pretty unhealthy dynamic for a couple to be in.

MMG: My Amell wasn't innocent, she was a badass!

... Actually, she was technically me in pixel form (or as close as I could get) so she was a bit of an idiot, lol. Definitely not a wall flower or innocent, though!

Aww  You're too hard on yourself LOL

I didn't know Amell was your canon :D Yeah I knew your canon was "you." But I remember now you saying she had no interest in Cullen and was all for Alistair.

I think I tend to associate Amell with some of the fanarts I've seen, of this little innocent girl swooning in the arms of the lusty templar lol

But I don't mean to engage in pairing wars OTL And if there are any Bethany x Cullen fans out there, don't hate me! :pinched::P

This makes me think of who else I ship, even tangentially, with Cullen. I know I like the thought of Cullen x Cass. Like I said, I love the thought of him with an older woman (as opposed to a young girl). And of course I have a thing for Anders x Cullen.... I think this officially makes me a hypocrite, seeing as how much I hate Fenris x Anders lol

I've seen/read Cullen x Merrill somewhere, at some point. I don't mind that, so long as Merrill is mid-20s at least.

One of my Amells reveled in the fact that Cullen, a templar, had a crush on her. And since he was a bit of a push-over, that just made it much easier for her to take advantage of the already lax rules she followed. She was a bit of a ****; I loved and hated her PT, she pissed me off so much. XD

My other Amell...well, she was too shy and stayed away from him as much as possible. She over-analyzed all the fun out of it. I like to imagine them making eye contact in the hallway, turning super red and running in opposite directions away from each other. XD

One crush was one-sided, the other was sort of mutual but unclear.

BTW, found this new gif that made me laugh:

Aha, I'm going to point to this nice psychological reason for why I (personally) hate the Bethany x Seb pairing and the Beth-f!Hawke sibling rivalry over him in the DLCs. Um, right, that's why! ^_^

Happy 2700! :wizard:

When do you think 3000 will happen? If it's during the holidays, I may be able to write a short fic. I know we said "no theme," but SOME theme might at least give me an idea as to inspiration.... *strokes chin*

EDIT: How about AU? Have we ever had an AU challenge?

Yeah, I kinda like how we did page 500, where it was an anything goes, but for fic we did have a suggested theme to get the creative juices flowing. Then, I think it was first kiss? So that's a good idea.

For Page 3000...? We could have one or even two themes/prompts...? We haven't done AU as a theme per se, but I almost feel like any fic is AU at some level. :P Ironically, when I first read that, I read "modern AU," which I don't think I could do. But AU as a theme would be particularly... freeing!

Argh, it also reminds me of the plot bunny that popped up on my tumblr this week... Hmm. I like it!!!

When do I think we'll hit page 3000? Hmm. We're pretty slow right now, which could change quickly if there's news. It's been about two months since 2500, suggesting we'll hit 3000 in February or so. But we could still capitalize on the holidays. Maybe a New Years Challenge??

Anyway, anyone heard when the next Wolf Among Us will be released? Or the new season of the Walking Dead game? I really can't wait for either, but tomorrow I'm booked for the release of the new CK2 DLC!

Well apparently, they tailor the story and the game after listening to the fan reactions and looking at our choices, which is why they're so iffy about release dates. Like in the Walking Dead, they were really unhappy how the Carley/Doug split was, they want to make sure that the choices are as close to 50/50 as possible.

I see. So hey if I got all 5 episodes on steam will they notify me when the new one comes out or  what? Cause  for example TWD  I had it on my IPad  and I had to search for it everytime, this is the 1st time I got this kind of game on the PC

:D Cool. Although I just realized, the problem with AU is that if I do a Cullen x Inquisitor pairing, the Inquisitor will just seem like a Mary Sue/Gary Stu...

EDIT: I guess I could do Cullen x Anders or Cullen x Cass....  Or both................ :o

True but at least Hawke has something of a defined personality and a past, a family, etc. I mean if you wrote a story about Jason Hawke, who was a coward, the youngest of ten children, and from Tevinter... that's not Hawke lol That's some dude named Jason Hawke.

But the Inquisitor could be anyone, with any past, any storyline... and in an AU, any remaining defining characteristics would disappear.

I'm kind of terrified it will turn into a self-insert :?

Like that one article said, try not to worry too much about a too interesting or too perfect character. The Warden, Hawke, and even the Inquisitor all have something about them that makes them stand out from the rest. Heck, putting yourself in the story can help you understand a few things.

Take Harry, for example. If he wasn't The-Boy-Who-Lived and the only one who could defeat Voldemort, then we wouldn't have a very interesting story. If we read it all from Neville's perspective, no matter how awesome he turns out to be, it wouldn't have been as engaging. Harry being a bit more special is what made us keep reading.

Same goes for Batman. He's horrible to his friends, and yet people still like him. He is a master in almost every form of combat, and always wins. But people don't say he's a Sue - they say he's a hero.

So, go ahead and give the Inquisitor an interesting ability or a past that makes them stand out. If they didn't stand out one way or the other, then we wouldn't have an upcoming game. ^_^

(And omg I want a PS4 so bad but

I apologize in advance if I'm about to be incoherent. I managed to be at work for 15+ hours today and my brain is rather fried, but I'm afraid if I don't post this while I'm thinking of it, it'll be gone from my mind by morning. :P

Looping back to something we were talking about before (with some quotes for context)...

From a canon standpoint, I have to say I disagree with this - that is in fact exactly where his boundary seems to be on the subject. If you side with the templars (which I didn't, my Hawke sided reluctantly with mages, but I've watched various alternate versions) Cullen will defy Meredith about sparing the mages who surrendered when she wants them dead. His argument for doing so is that things were even worse during the Ferelden situation, and even then some mage lives were saved.

The mages in question are rendered Tranquil after the battle, so it doesn't mean much. He also has no qualms about slaughtering those who only want to defend themselves, or even if he does, will still do so. As does Hawke if siding with the templars.

How do you know that? I just rewatched that scene and there was no mention of making them Tranquil. Also Cullen took responsibility for them and he is the next in line after Meredith. Who would make them Tranquil? Meredith is dead, so unless Cullen goes against his word or someone does it without asking him, I don't see how this is known as fact.

Having rewatched that scene, I actually think I would go further than that - there is explicit evidence to the contrary, that Cullen had no intention of those mages being made Tranquil.

If Hawke asks if there's any way to tell if they've been doing blood magic, Meredith says no and Cullen suggests they could be watched carefully.

Cullen's response doesn't make sense if you assume they'll be made Tranquil, because the Tranquil lose their connection to the Fade and can't do magic. There would be no reason to watch them carefully to make sure they can't do something they wouldn't be capable of anyway, and if that had been Cullen's intention it would have made a stronger case to Meredith to just say that. So I think it clearly isn't his intention.

That's not to say those mages couldn't have ended up Tranquil somehow, but I don't think Cullen can be blamed for it. His dialog indicates he expects them to be capable of doing magic in the future, which Tranquil are not. :)

Those are might thoughts too, although David Gaider said that they would be made tranquil later anyway. However, he never said that it would be Cullen that makes them tranquil, so I think that goes some way to explaining something, lol.
