Speaking of Dragon's Dogma, I'm noticing a lot of love for that game in the Cullen thread. Do most of you play on 360 or ps3?

I know Nikki and I are on 360 :) Nikki, if you're gonna start playing again I'll have to give Vega some new gear :D

Haha, I still have all that nice gear you gave him before!

 :o What's this? A new Cullenite?

Welcome! This seems like a cause for celebration. :D Finally, time to get out my confetti! *throws tiny Cullen-shaped confetti*

Believe me, this is one of the nicest threads you'll find on the BSN. Even with all of the hate Cullen and Cullen fans in general get, we still find room in our Cullen-filled hearts to forgive and forget. 'Cause we're nice people. ^_^

Everyone's welcome to join in on any of our conversations (Maker knows I've interrupted a lot during my time here) and a good debate is always welcome.

Ah true :D Oh btw if you enter the Rift and don't see my old pawn, Arya, it's because my "alt" pawn Seel is there instead. He's usually a sorcerer but I think he's a ranger right now.

Tabletop-ers, I found this: http://www.petalsand...rsGuide.1.1.pdf

So here is where all the fun is? :D

Hey everyone, JerHopp here. Mostly I just lurk (is that even a word) the BSN but only the DA:I section. I recently watched some youtube videos about DAI and a couple of videos about Cullen. That guy fascinated me the more I watched YTvideos.

Once in a while you see a thread on the DA:I about this interesting character (is he gonna be in the next installment, fingers crossed), but where there are fans, you will also see a lot of haters. And frankly, I don't want to get in a heated discussion, which is what mostly happens on the BSN, right?.

And then I saw this thread:

I didn't know there was an entire thread about Cullen and his worshippers (is that the correct word in this context).

So? Is there room for another guy here? You all look like great people with great taste, to say the least:lol:

LOL As others have said, come on in, the water's fine! This is indeed our haven away from the haters, and you're not the only dude. Like Lola mentioned, it's a little quieter than normal. We hope once the DA:I news starts to flow again it'll pick up. In the meantime, grab some thread and stay a while.

OK... is it just me, or has DG been banging this identical drum a bit much lately...?

I mean... ok, we GET IT already. Dragon Age != Romance Whoever You Want RPG.

Welcome JerHopp ... I piggy back R2's sentiments.

What we need is something weird and random to happen in BSN land to spike the punch here and get the party rolling again. I was looking for something quirky to post but lol'd when I saw this:

Man, reading David say those things so often nowadays almost discourage me, even though I agree with what he's actually saying. I know the romances aren't the most important part. Heck, even if it's one of my most common topics to talk about, it's not even my single most beloved feature. But hearing "this is tertiary" so often does put a dampener on things. I'm probably overreacting.

This is exactly my feeling. I mean, sure, DA isn't a Harlequin Romance. But the repeated message makes me feel like a degenerate for even enjoying the romances.

You are not overreacting (imo). I read the post earlier and it actually did not affect me at all... because I've read/heard him say it so often that now it's almost meaningless. I got hurt and upset the first 1000 times he said it. Now I'm just indifferent. I sort of hang my head and acknowledge that the writer I so admire and co-creator of my favorite game thinks I'm a blumbering romance-obsessed idiot.

Meh, I'll stop talking about the romances the minute they confirm something else about the game.

This! It's all well and good to say romance isn't the most important part, and I actually agree with that - but at this point the fact that there will be romance in the game is one of the few certainties we can actually base our speculation upon. Aside from going the next few months without discussing the game at all, it's only logical that romance will be a topic of discussion because it's one of the few things we know about for certain.

Yeah. Like, they could confirm Cullen or something. I'm sure that would stop us from talking about-...

Oh. Right!

Well...you know...after we work out if we can bang it...

They could announce some Keep stuff. And dialogue wheel changes. They both seem pretty unbangable, even by BSN 'Tali's Sweat' standards.

Thank you everyone, again, for the warm welcome!!

Now, about David Gaiders post.

I think he just wants to make clear what his stance (and the design's department) is regarding the romances to the fans (and everyone else who are watching the development of DA:I closely). And maybe for him its a good way to get the word out, that romances are not the most important thing for Bioware? This is an assumption, because I don't visit other forums, but is the perception from other forums (or places outside the BSN) that DA has become a "dating sim" after DA2? (I've read that here on the BSN once) and there is too much focus on romances?

I don't know.

I do find it interesting to read how he views romance in DA though.

Well when DA:I comes out we will see how they implement this feature.. One year to go lol

It's on ScottishWarrior's channel in 4 parts. I was gonna put it on mine, but the audio and video quality is absolutely awful and I'm really fussy about the quality of stuff I put on my channel, LOL!

Yay, thanks for sharing the link to the playerhandbook MMG! *cuddles it and starts reading in a corner*

And the overly 'romances are not the most important thing!' rants are making me feel quite uncomfortable too, to be honest... Of course they are not the most important, but I DO like them a lot... It is a cool asset that gives the companions and roleplay a bit of extra depth and makes it all more... humane, realistic? I understand that not every character is going to fall in love with the PC (realism here), and I applaud the fact that Bioware also includes bi- and homosexual options instead of just heterosexual. I'm a white heterosexual female, but hey: it's cool that those who aren't also get to play the same in the way they like! I'm already glad to be able to play as a female protanogist without being forced to wear bikinimail...

But of course I also can understand were the devs are coming from... I just like to defend that little piece of extra gameplay that makes the bioware games stand out, for me. And for those who dare to call dragon age a 'dating-sim'... go play the sims, please, or second life... some actual sandboxgames where you can do whatever you want 24/7... I've got a 50+ hours story to play with perhaps 1 hour of totally 100% optional romance in it, ktnxbai... To be honest, I consider that to be on the same childish level as the old Fox-issue with calling Mass Effect a p0rn-sim for the totally optional 10 seconds of alien side-boob in a 50+ hours game... seriously? Learn to use the internet... *starts humming the 'internet is for porn' song*

ok ok, /endrant... I just get so tired of the extremists...

I totally agree. It just bothers me that Gaider seems so vehemently against romances. The extra depth the romances add just makes the games much better imo. Shouldn't our Wardens, Hawkes, and Inquisitors have something, or better yet someone, to fight for? Some people need more motivation to keep going other than just "the entire world is depending on you."

And I hate when people on BSN complain about the romances. The anti-romance crowd must not realize that the romances are completely *optional* and that no one is forcing them to pursue them. If you don't like to do it, don't freakin' do it! Of course, that doesn't stop the anti-romancers from complaining about them and hounding people who do enjoy romances.

And you shouldn't trust Faux News (see what I did there :3). From what I've seen, they're pretty biased. But, I have to say, that news segment where they were calling Mass Effect a p0rn sim was pretty hilarious. The second that Geoff didn't agree with them, they were all like "Sorry, we don't have any more time..." and that Cooper Lawrence chick insisted on interrupting him. Totally unprofessional.

They even admitted to not knowing much about the game and basing their entire opinion on the trailer and rumors they heard.

Geoff: Have you even played Mass Effect?
Cooper: (laughs) No.
Me: Then why the heck are you even here?!

*scoffs* And they call themselves reporters. I'm getting tired of their disingenuous assertions and their snide insinuations. *cracks knuckles*

(Edit: Oops. I forgot to put /ENDRANT)

Oh that would probably be fans like me. The romances are the most important part for me. (Not the only part, but I rank them prio 1.)

Meh! I used to think DG was the king of romances since he was the first to add them to a BioWare game and because he seemed to take it seriously enough to perform research on what specific fans wanted (Baldur's Gate and Alistair). I couldn't care less what he thinks about the romance fans nowadays. He is clearly not the king any longer and seems to love butting heads with fans. (Though Kudos to him for talking to fans on his private channels!)

I am not ashamed about the fact that the romances are the special part about BW games that make me love them so much. There is no other game studio that can match BW level of writing. I can truly say that I would not be so interested in DAI if they cut the romances. I would probably play, but I would not be invested in my char that much. So even if the romances are not the most important part for BW, they are for me.

I am also not ashamed of saying that I would pay a lot of money for a romance/hangout DLC or any extra content that deals with companions. *THROWS MONEY AT SCREEN*

Lol, TBA, I thought the faux news (yup, saw what you did there *wink*) rubbish (sorry, cannot call it 'news') was indeed pretty hilarious (and unprofessional), but it is quite the same attitude I see some people at the BSN have. (let's totally make up rubbish and try to make a fool of those who dare to like an aspect we don't and actually don't know a thing about!)

Ah well, at least I know there are always people who agree with me and enjoy the various aspects of the game without becoming fuming zealots, lol.

And to get our spirits up again: it has probably been posted here already sometime, but I found this fanfic on deviantart with a AU modern time Dragon Age setting and lots of Cullen (would rate it NSFW as some chapters have steamy or addict-themed content...): http://celticwolfwal...allery/34827357

Hmm, how should I say it: for me, the romances are really important, but is for me part of the package: if the romance were superb, but the story/gameplay would suck, than I still would not like it (which is for example the problem I have with Mass Effect). But are the romances high on my priority list? You bet! And I would also totally pay extra for more romance/quality time content.

I guess that is also why it is all rubbing me in the wrong way: first they 'invent' the romance option and do it after quite some research ... and than the devs all of a sudden don't care about the romances anymore? Ouch :crying: Of course, some people are never satisfied, but that is for each and every aspect of the game...

I'm with you on the DLC thing Sc0ll. As inferior I find ME to DA in almost every way, the Citadel DLC is by far the best piece of DLC I think I have ever seen because of all the cool little moments they give us, (even if it would be a million times better if it was Alistair, Morrigan and Leliana instead of Kaidan, Ashley and Liara...) :P

But I still think Gaider's the King, the Serene Doge, the Emperor, the Supreme Overlord, Daedric Prince, and the Most Joss of Whedons as far as Bioware romances are concerned.
I've heard him talk about them in conferences and such and he genuinely does love how they make the fans feel, and how they react to the different romances. Especially the Alistair Landsmeet breakup. But that's mainly because he's sadistic I think. I feel that he's just sick of all the craziness that the romances spew out and cause long before they have even announced the LIs.
