Bloody hell! That's nightmare inducing!

Aw man, I'd love to know what offer a demon would make Cullen.

LOL I think we have a nice guess in Aimo's pic up above! :D

In other news, I'm not sure if this is the one I was thinking of, but behold: male desire demon! What is your desire? by DragonReine

Actually he would have probably been offered one of three things in DA2:

1) The Warden as a lover
2) To have the painful memories of his torture erased
3) Revenge for the loss of his Templar brothers by gaining enough power to eradicate blood mages

Something I'm worried about is that DA3 won't be able to do itself or the characters justice. I mean, sure it's likely to be better than DA2, but I'm not sure it'll feel as indepth story and character/companion/protagonist wise as DA:O was. I'd hate to see all these brand new characters and previous NPC companions with so much potential go to waste due to a short development time, or resources being put towards things that aren't needed like multiplayer or ridiculously expensive cinematic trailers etc. That's one of the reasons that I'm glad Cullen wasn't a companion/LI in DA2, because a backstory like his deserves the time and attention it needs to see his personality and story arc come into fruition, it would feel cheap and wasted otherwise. Anders and Fenris deserved more time and care with their stories in DA2, especially Anders given his huge transition between games.

3 from Wryme and 1 from Caress, then? 2 seems more like the province of a sloth demon.

Also, I personally believe that the companions had a lot more depth in 2 than in Origins, or at least that depth was used to far greater advantage. They actually had stories and more than one mission's worth of things to do besides follow the PC around. 2's system would work well for 3 with more time put into it.

Yeah, they had missions and stuff, but to me it felt like when we did interact with them (mostly Anders) all he ever spoke about was the mages plight, we got little to no details about his past out of him, but in DA:O we got more history details out of the companions. I felt more intimate with the DA:O companions than I did with the DA2 ones.

What would Anders say about his past? "I was locked in a tower. It sucked. I tried to break out a few times, but they kept hauling me back." He tries to tell you what it's like to be merged with a spirit, but that has limited conversational opportunities. Would you expect him to talk about the templars he killed in his post-merger binge? He's already worried that everyone thinks he's insane (with good reason). Most people talk about their interests, but at this point, nothing interests him but justice for his people and Hawke, not necessarily in that order. He goes on about the first enough, and by the time he allows himself to admit his interest in the second, it's irrelevant.

I don't know. Maybe I rely on headcanon too much.

That isn't to say that I wouldn't appreciate a broader range of player-initiated conversation! Far from it.

Oh I dunno, his real name would have been a good start, or how he came to be in Kirkwall when he ran away from the Grey Wardens, he could have gone anywhere so why Kirkwall (beyond the writers demanding it of course lol.) His childhood within the Circle, what little he remembers of his parents, what he does between healing poor folk and writing his manifesto, his thoughts and feelings on things beyond the mages plight, boxers or briefs...

I felt this as well. Berelinde, for me I think it would have added more to the soup if there were a few more random chit chat moments with Anders (and the others). It wouldn't really have to be about anything important. Tell me a story about
your cat or why you love to eat cookies or that shaving every day makes your face razor burned, hense the sexy stubble. I feel like they skipped the opportunity to make the companions more....  I don't know, just more.

I felt disconnected. I had a hard time caring too much about any of them. Oddly enough, I did really like Isabella .

I agree with you there, Lola. The romances came off as basically lustmances since you learned very little about any of the LI's. The deepest one was probably, ironically, Isabela. Whaat?

But going back to how you guys were talking about blood magic and how nobody seemed to detect it / how it would terminate a Cullenmance - the devs have been talking about mind domination and how they've done a poor job of showing how it's the most dangerous part of blood magic. What if a blood mage protag could use mind domination to make Cullen or your other companions turn a blind eye to your blood magic? What if you could convince them that they actually approve? Would you do that, if it was a choice between losing Cullen or controlling him?

I would. In game, I mean - it'd make for a fascinating playthrough. DG in particular has talked about how in the next game he hopes to make it so that there are greater consequences for our specializations, especially blood magic.

And how would you guys feel in general about being able to use mind domination in conversation? If there were bonus convo options for using blood magic mind domination on people (kind of like the force) would you be interested in taking those? Or in at least having a persuasion bonus for blood magic?

Oh I would love to be able to do that. Kind of like in the Witcher game where Geralt the main character can do some type of mind trick with hand signals and depending on your skill level you can succeed or fail at the attempt.

Depending on the skill level of the blood mage, she can either fail or succeed also. And if she fails, the person she was trying to control would know and something would happen, some type of consequence. That would be cool for me and make me want to play as a blood mage.

That would be amazing! I'd be totally down for that! It would give me a better reason to be a blood Mage as well!

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaah! I just had an idea (that has probably already been thought of 100x). I would love for mages to have a familiar. As in an animal companion, not unlike Sir-Pounce-Alot. Only you'd have a few options to chose from and each animal would give you a different perk. I don't know.... maybe a cat will give you a deeper mana pool and a rat or bird would give you +2 magic, etc. Then they would all be able to have an individual activated attack. Is that dumb?

A fantastic idea that you should post it when they ask for ideas on skills:wizard:

Gosh, you know, I'm torn on the whole mind domination thing. In Thedas, and thinking about how Cullen would feel about it in particular, my initial response is, "OH Maker, NO! I'd never use it!" But then, I start thinking of scenarios, like, "These aren't the mages you're looking for. He can go about his business. Move along..." and I have cognitive dissonance with my Star Wars lore. I mean, I never think Jedi are evil for using their powers on "the weak minded." Hmm... very good question...

FWIW, I've actually never taken the blood mage path, but I also haven't played many mages.

Glad you guys think it could have potential. Image IPB
R2s Muse, when you play kotor you sometimes get evil points for using persuade, even as a light Jedi.  Image IPB I suppose I can see what Bioware means - it's a slippery slope when you force people to do things they don't want to, even (and maybe especially if) you're very convinced that you're right.

But like some of you guys, I've never rolled a blood mage. If it had greater impact on our choices, though, I totally would!
On another note, I finally started that thread on mages and the fade we talked about days ago.

I'd really like it if some of you *ahem* left your Cullen comfort bubble and participated.  Image IPB

Ah, good to know they've updated the morality from the obi-wan-can-do-no-wrong days. That does make more sense, IMO. And, really implementing the evil side of blood magic might finally succeed in balancing out that mage vs. templar debate and show some of the "greater good" the templars are supposed to be working for. Good on them!

But like some of you guys, I've never rolled a blood mage. If it had greater impact on our choices, though, I totally would!

I would probably try it out just to see its effects, but you know, I never choose just because it's always seemed like something my character wouldn't do. I remember thinking this  more in DA:O, and there were some specializations I never got til I started paying attention to the achievements (like... Reaver...? is that one?).

On a similar note, DA has never needed male desire demons because most everyone is bi, duh.

Besides, a proper desire demon could make a straight woman or gay man want her no matter what. It's what they do!

Good point! Although I still want to see a purple man in nipple tassles. Speaking of which, does anyone else find it strange that the desire demons are pretty much topless and will openly grope their own boobs whilst talking to people, yet our protagonist and his/her LI always have sex with some item of clothing on lol.
