But who could it be? What character has existed in the minds of the writers for so long? And this is a character that DG hasn't had the chance to write before (so not Morrigan, Leliana, etc.). Wow. Could be an NPC like Empress Celene or something?

I remember someone mentioning in her goodbye post that she'd written a follower, though who knows who it passed to or whether or not it's gonna resemble it's initial design when we finally get to actually she them.R2s Muse wrote...
Yeah, we know she did some work on DA:I. I just wonder if that means it's general plot type stuff instead of an entire follower since she did leave quite a while ago. Hmm.Chiantirose1982 wrote...

Yeah she is gone, but I think she wrote some stuff for DA:I.

DG is waxing eloquent on Tumblr tonite, answering some fan questions. In one about how the writers choose which characters they'll write, he says something interesting about one of his DA:I characters.
"I think, as we start getting into the concepting for the characters, there’s a social dynamic where a writer seems more keen on someone and the others start to back off without really being obvious about it. By the time I get to divvying up the list, it’s more or less already been settled. One of the characters I’ve written for DAI was like that—it was the sort of story I wanted to write ever since I started with BioWare, and everyone knew that, and thus I didn’t ever need to claim it outright. It was simply acknowledged that I was going to write that person, come hell or high water."
Hmmm....I wonder who asked this question. Certainly someone very manly and handsome
@Moto: I think that it's Cole. I dunno why, but my gut says Cole if he is in fact a companion. He just seems to connect so much with Cole and we might get a bit more of that story of loneliness. I kind of want my Inquisitor to be a surrogate father for him, for Cole to try and disappear, but the Inquisitor grabs him by the wrist and pulls him close to tell him that he sees Cole and that he'll never disappear, because deep inside the Inquisitor's soul is a place for him.........er so yeah I think it's Cole.
Or maybe if he means Cassandra it's something to do with trying to get away from one's family?

But do we think Cole has existed in DG's mind since he first started with BW? It's possible.
Cassandra seems more likely; I can see them planning ahead to the extent that they knew this character would exist.
Or perhaps Cole is simply the embodiment of a character idea DG has been cherishing for a long, long time.

I think I remember Mr. Weekes also mentioning that he's writing a male elf? So it could be possible that he's also writing Chill McSmugson.
I'm pretty convinced that he's written Iron Bull, at least, considering how he's using him as an icon on Twitter and has been talking about the Qun and Qunari...
Edit: and Lukas Kristjansen is writing the blonde elf (Sera?) Confirmed by Mr. Gaider right here.
Edit x2: and who wrote the character that makes someone want to smack her everytime she opens her mouth? 'Cause that could be something else to speculate on just for funsies. (Especially just for funsies, seeing it might not even be a companion. orz)

I'm not sure it is Cole, actually, looking at the context of the sentence. After all, it sounds like he's been waiting to write that kind of story since the beginning, not the character itself. So it COULD be Cullen, if he is now going in that direction Mr. Gaider has always been interested in (I don't think it's Cullen, personally, but he works as an example here.)
Cole was already Mr. Gaider's character and has his own book, and while he does seem very, very attached to him, I don't think he applies in this context seeing it seems to specifically involve Inquisition. It also seems like the other writers 'let him have' this character as it involves a story he's been wanting to write for so long now. If it was Cole, I imagine they would have 'let him have' him anyway, seeing he created him and wrote an entire book on him and such. So I'm guessing it's either someone we don't know yet or someone who didn't have this particular story direction until this new game.
After all, Mr. Gaider hasn't said he's had this particular character planned since the beginning, just that he wanted to write this kind of story since the beginning, and now that particular story has become relevant and doable in the context of a game. We're lucky it just happens to be Inquisition! I look forward to seeing it, whatever pans out.
(And I probably worded some of this awkwardly, but hopefully people get what I mean? ^^; )

Nice Dirgegun, I remember I had forgotten someone.
To me Cole is still particularly unwritten, though it could be a new character all together. I'm curious what Ms. Feketekuty could be writing and whether or not she'll have a companion at all since we seem to be running out of companions.

Maybe the moustache guy and the one with a beard are the same one? They just have to work out the design of the character?
'Scribe woman', could be like Samantha Traynor. She might be administrating your financial stuff and troups and all that. She doesn't seem the battle-type-lady.

Yeah that's what I've been thinking. She might be the character who most aims to get the Inquisition's commerce up while we have two others who focus on military and espionage. I'm thinking new character for military and Leliana for espionage.TinuHawke wrote...

Wow... that's very interesting. I'd be tempted to think "Cullen," but in the past he's seemed really surprised that people even know who Cullen is (this is way way before DAI), let alone like him. So I have my serious doubts that DG has been wanting to write Cullen for years upon years.
But who could it be? What character has existed in the minds of the writers for so long? And this is a character that DG hasn't had the chance to write before (so not Morrigan, Leliana, etc.). Wow. Could be an NPC like Empress Celene or something?
But he says it's the story he wanted to write rather than the character. It could still be Cullen, perhaps he's becoming somewhat mentally unstable due to his lyrium addiction or something? Maybe that's more the story he's never had the chance to write?
Oh and Tinu, it was specifically confirmed that Scribe Girl is not a companion.

I agree with this interpretation. It doesn't sound to me that it's a particular person, but a particular story. Like "hero has been betrayed by both sides of the Big Damn Conflict so leaves his duty to become a wandering minstrel until circumstances draw him back into the fight." Ahem.Dirgegun wrote...

Whatever the story arc is, I doubt we'll be able to guess it.
What does make me wonder is whether it's follower #1, or his more recently added follower #2. On one hand, you'd think that this 'story of a lifetime' opportunity would be the first follower he's written since it would be a no brainer. On the other hand, he's writing Cassandra whom we've known about for a while (although not as early as he did). Hmm. Could Cassandra's story be the one?

All we know is that Hepler knows Cullen's continuing story, but she said she was on maternity leave and therefore not privy to any future plans about his character. So there's no evidence that she was actually writing him after her stint in DA2.TinuHawke wrote...

I think with the male elf... I vaguely remember us speculating about that when looking at the nosferatu-like elf dude in the "new home" art. Hmm. I look around.
The smack her comment I always thought was about Sera, but I don't think there were many details, eh?

I'm thinking it's going to jump from perspective to perspective (between Celene, Gaspard and Briala), but focus more on Briala since she seems to have the biggest bridge between all the characters.
