On DG writing Cullen, I honestly think we'd be lucky. He's a great writer and seems to get Cullen (he may not get us! But that's beside the point). Anyone writing Cullen would predict angst in his future. I mean, his issues have got issues.
I also think all the creepy hair brushing talk was a now-dated empty threat. So I think Cullen would be in good hands, if we were to get so lucky.

Agreed! I really like Gaider's writing. I think he'd do a good job of balancing Cullen's good qualities (Gaider did once refer to Cullen as a "sweet guy") with not turning him into a vapid prince charming type, which I don't think any of us want. At this point Cullen has got to be pretty messed up and is presumably dealing with a raging lyrium addiction, and I think Gaider would handle that well.

As an aside, and this is totally un-Cullen-related, but I was hoping you guys could help me with something. I need to bring a present to a holiday gift exchange for work on Wednesday morning, and I have no idea what to buy. It needs to be under $20, legal in the state of New York, and available in a small town... and that's about it for limits. I'm trying to avoid bringing alcohol because I think that's what most people are buying and not everybody drinks. It needs to appeal to a fairly wide variety of tastes. Any thoughts? Sorry to put something so off-topic in the thread but I am down to the wire and desperate for what to do!

Is it for a male or female?

It needs to be for either. We're playing a bingo game (I felt like an idiot at the last staff meeting for being the only person who didn't know "dirty bingo" isn't a sex game :P)  where when you win you get to pick a gift to unwrap or take someone else's gift.

Apparently practical gifts don't tend to go over well, which I find odd because I love practical gifts. This is the first winter I've worked here so I have only a vague idea of what people have gifted in the past.

What were the vague ones?

Have you tried asking a co-worker what they're getting?
Usually when I have to do things I like this I just a get some Celebrations or maybe some Toblerone or something.

I like to give Yankee Candles when I don't really know the person, heh. Or some good quality chocolate.

Oh I think DG IS an excelet writter, but sometimes he just likes to "torture" the fans a lil bit, that said the only thing I would be worried about would be killing him off with not chance to save him, thats the only fear I have, I know he's a pretty unstable person and whatnot but I still dont want him to just die....:crying:

I always bring syrup waffles if I go somewhere and need a gift... might work too? (although I doubt small towns in the USA are going to have it...)

And I think DG would do a tremendous job if he would be writing Cullen. I somehow think that they might push in a dump-option for those who don't like him, but hey, as long as we can also have a hug-option (at the least)... I'd be a very happy panda!

Honestly, I just can't see DG doing something with a character for any reason other than serving the story and the game. For all his enjoyment of fan tears, I think those are just the icing on the cake for him. I just don't think fan love or hate is going to impact a story.

The one thing that is still a lingering concern of mine is not that he'd do something for the purpose of torturing the fans, but that early on he seemed to think he was headed for some pitchforks and tar from the Cullen  fans. Almost like he already knew they'd earned it. Now, from DG's comments since the Fires Above trailer, it's clear he also has this general expectation from the fans. But there could be some Cullen-specific reasons to worry.

I 100% agree.

It's a concern of mine, too. It makes me wonder if something bad or "fan-rage" worthy has been written into his story that he knows/thinks will set us all off. Mind you, the Dark Ritual and Anders little firework display was supposed to be difficult and shocking and I was un-fazed by both, LOL!

Honestly, I don't feel like it's DG that's writing him. Or at least, if he is then it wasn't because he desperately wanted to write him. Don't get me wrong, I know DG said he likes the story arc Cullen represents, but I don't think he's got that "fire" to write his dialogue like he clearly has with Cassandra and Cole.

@Lola, totally agree. If Cullen's a follower, I doubt DG's his writer for all those reasons and from the hints we've gotten so far. Of course, as Mary Kirby said, they still write lots of characters who aren't followers... So if Cullen isn't one of the nine, then I suppose anything goes again. LOL

Yeah, at this point any number of people could've wrote him. Hell, maybe he ended up with more than one writer working on him (especially if my guess about Tonia writing his dialogue was correct), she left long before they'd finished doing the dialogue and then the extra year happened which has probably given all major characters (both companions and npcs alike) more content/dialogue so it could literally be anyone.

Yeah, I still can't help but think you were right about Tonia. I mean, who else could they have been working on?!?! So maybe Cullen is a patchwork of writing this time. A very "grandfather"ly patchwork! LOL ;)

In that case, I hope her grandfather was swoon-worthy!

If he isn't a companion then I'm kinda hoping that this extra year has enabled them to maybe upgrade his character to someone important enough that he'll have a good chunk of screen time... or that we can at least ask him ALL the things.

Thanks for the gift suggestions, guys! I talked to coworkers and discovered that 1.) no one has bought anything yet and we're all in the same boat, 2.) a lot of people are going to default to bringing booze, and 3.) relaxation or de-stressing themed gifts went over well in the past.

I will consider all the ideas you guys have given me and see what I can put together. Thanks again!

Hmm, destressing. That's a good idea. I'm in the same bind but for $10 and for tomorrow. :/  Work gifts suck.

*sigh* And as usual, my witty rejoinder is swallowed by the crappy BSN smilie/img/pseudo-HTML editor.

To recap: awesome, Masterchef! You put us all to shame. :D

That gingerbread house is fantastic! :o

However, between my unreliable oven and my split shift tomorrow, I'm just not going to be able to produce quality baked-goods in time for the party.

My gift is still a work in progress, but I have some ideas now at least. I will keep you guys posted on what I end up putting together.

Wow, that is lovely. Cullen's expression is just destroying me!

Sooooooo....when Greg Ellis tweeted he was heading back into the studio, I responded with "If this alludes to what I think it alludes to, there's going to be a lot of happy DAI Inquistors-to-be."

He favorited the tweet (see below). Posted Image

Not sure if this means anything but he has been hinting about reprising a character. Here's hoping!.

I've been thinking about this today. Does anybody know how aware Greg Ellis is that Cullen has fans?

Because if he's aware, this strikes me as a very positive sign.

If he's unaware, his reaction might be more along the lines of, "Wow, I had no idea Blood Mage #3 was of such interest to potential Inquisitors!" :P

Wow, love that ginger house! If I'd try and make one myself it would probably look like it had just been hit by a hurricane or something Posted Image kinda, sorta roundish cookies are about the most I can do.
Mello's new art is lovely as always! It's so cute... his expression is stunning indeed. Posted Image
I have no idea how aware Greg is of the Cullen fans, but who knows: maybe he is lurking around at this thread... Posted Image I somehow doubt he would be totally oblivious to it, as I guess that he has been spammed quite a lot with questions about whether or not Cullen is to appear (and in which way) in DA;I.

He knows Cullen has fans, but I don't think he's aware of the extent or the amount of controversy and speculation his character generates, LOL! I don't think he knows that our thread is huge either, last time he posted a link to it it was still only little.
