Probably not as grandiose as it may sound but cray cray is still cray cray.
There's some Cullen too so I guess it's relevent
LOL And here I thought the moderation had increased on the BSN.LolaLei wrote...

I do wonder what they plan to do with Varric in the next game that's new/different, based on DG's post. It would be cool to see the Bianca thing back up on him somehow. Either she's alive or he has deal with her death or something.motomotogirl wrote...

Haha... interesting read! He's wrong about Varric though... I don't really like Varriclol or it's more like I'm indifferent to him. Because he's right; those "nice" characters who have no opinions and agree with everything you do are dull as doorknobs. I'm really annoyed (the more time goes by) that he's returned as a companion. I mean, of all people. Boring, perfect, friendly, buddy Varric. Blahhhhh.

Ah, good point ladies. It's hard for me to remember that Varric's relationship with Hawke does not equal his relationship with Inquisitor. Here's hoping there's some good tasty friction... and some Bianca angst! LOL

That was a nice read, kinda makes me think that he might have some "good" plans for Cullen but who knows, personally I wasn't very fond of Varric being back as a full companion again because we pretty much kinda know all there is about him since he had some comics as well but thats BW's choice I guess.
I only hope that he wont turn into Anders 2.0 and be all emo about things, but to the same token its kinda of nice to have an old buddy back , altho I wont really be interested in haveing a romantic relationship with him since he kinda feels like a brother to me

I think the main reason I took a liking to Varric was that his personality and general attitude was very similar to my sarcastic male Hawke. So while Hawke had all the other companions around him losing their sh!t, getting in trouble, and/or being super serious about everything Varric was just kinda swept along with it all, just like my Hawke but still continued to crack a joke as a coping mechanism. They didn't take themselves too seriously, and I like that.

Yea thats pretty much the same reason why I liked him as well in DA2 he was the one person who wasnt complaining about everything , well him and Isabella were my 2 fav characters, but I guess its as DG said, ppl like characters that are funny and agree with our protagonist and such.
I guess thats what makes those characters stand out more compared to others such as Cullen or Anders or Tallis and so on, altho I kind of agree with him on the stance of , if a character is funny and agreeable with you all the time eventually it would get boring and thats why we kind of need to have a balance between love and hate because thats what makes it interesting, atleast thats what I've got out of what he said:P

I like Varric because he was my Hawke's bro, his comments never slipped into outright bully territory (I'm still hoping for that pimp hand button), but, at the same time, he has so much potential to GROW. Yeah, he was moderate and sarcastic and witty and 'boring' as some might claim, but hell, if that's boring I guess I'm a boring person too. Same with Hawke before **** started collapsing around him. After all, Hawke didn't have a lot of reason to be unhappy before his life started falling apart.
While Varric was moderate and generally easy going, though, we got so many peeks at underlying issues he might have but no real plot lines that let us see exactly what he was going through. Yeah, we got to sort out his brother, but we never got to see him DEAL with his brother once it was resolved. We just heard he was having a difficult time with it. The same could be said for when he was suddenly shoved into the position his brother always had. We heard bits and pieces of how he was dealing with the Merchant Guild but didn't get to SEE it. And then with everything else that's happened...
It makes me personally really glad he's back. I guess some can say it's Bioware just 'bringing back the boring character because he's popular', but I think he has a TON of potential and, even though he was a full companion in DAII, we barely scraped the surface. Even the comics haven't properly scraped the surface! After all, how much do we REALLY know about Bianca?
Honestly, I think he still has a story to tell and he might just surprise us~
I will admit I was a little confused at first, same with Cassandra, considering her movie and all, but now I think both have potential and more story to tell. And Vivienne is a brand new character, so of course she has plenty of story to tell!

Yes but see this kind of starts to go a lil bit in that gray area tho because by that point almost every character in the DA universe has potential to grow, and have a story, some more then others even, I mean same argument can be made for Cullen since we know almost next to nothing about him then Varric for example. But sometimes you have to figure how long can that story of the said character can go before it get old?
But anyway that was just my oppinon I dont really have anything against Varric as I said and most ppl have said before Varric was everyones bro witch doesnt make it a bad thing at all.
I simply just feel like some characters need to evolve more then others that is all, now thats not to say that Varric has no more room to grow, he certantly does, but in my oppinion I think we know a weee bit more about Varric then we do with Cullen

I reckon Varric probably has quite a sad backstory. I also have this horrible feeling that I'm gonna want to romance him again, and then have a really difficult decision to make if Cullen happens to be romanceable too, LOL.
Dirgegun wrote...
Well, not really. Let's use Alistair for an example! We saw him grow in DA:O, and while it could be argued that he has the potential to grow further, as we saw in the comics, that wasn't a type of growth that needed to be shown in a game.

I think many characters have the opportunity to grow in a way that would be appealing to show in the game, including exploring more backgrounds.
I'm never like 'that character must be back' or 'I never want to see them again'. But yeah, I wouldn't mind to see more of some of them, including Anders, Cullen and more
