I must confess I had to google just who the f*ck was this catti moron...uh..i mean..Caitlin Moran. Yeah, that's it. And she's got some book about how to be a woman? Lmao! Being a self assured woman does not equate with acting like a rude b*tch.
I'm sorry, but the way she treated fans, the cast and crew of that show really ticked me off. I mean, I'm all for ppl being honest and straightforward, and i love playful teasing...but there is a line that to cross it means becoming mean spirited. I despise mean spirited "humor", and mean spirited ppl. To have a mean spirit is to be careless and cruel with others. Poking fun at ppl is one thing, humiliating them is something else altogether. Everybody in this world as been thru hell and paid their dues one way or another. They don't deserve being humiliated, too. /rant.
And why in the world did the cast and crew go along with it if doing so made them feel uncomfortable? For heaven's sake, if something makes you feel uncomfortable, don't do it. You don't have to. A firm, but polite "No". If that doesn't work, a "Hell no" would be called for. Bah.
Oh, and MMG, write that novel! Write it, then rewrite it, then rewrite it again. Lol! Cuz, yeah....it's a process. And the novel will only get better the more you work it.
I just say this cuz too many ppl have great ideas, but then hesitate cuz they start to doubt. But I say to hell with that. "Ain't nobody got time for that". Lol!
Very well said!

I agree. I think the fanfic writer herself hit the nail right on the head. I always think about a study of women's online porn habits which found that the number one "erotic" site for women was fanfiction.net. It's an interesting read if you haven't seen it. Egad, I thought it was uncanny that DG started reading DA fanfic right when we were talking about it... but it seems fanfic has been in the news again. That is horrifying, and shame on this person for mocking women's fantasy... fanfiction is one of the few outlets for women to express sexuality without censure. How frustrating.

I also hadn't heard of this Caitlin Moran person... but honestly, f*ck her and the horse she rode in on. Pretty unprofessional for all involved. I hope the writer keeps on writing, and I hope no one else is scared off by events like that.
Personally... I have the same fears. That someone I know IRL will run across the fanfic I've written and I'll be humiliated in some way, overt or otherwise. I haven't written that much smut. I honestly suck at it, but I'd like to get better... even if I don't think I'll ever be quite comfortable writing it. It's so hard for me to keep writing these days since I feel like an all around poseur and rank amateur, so reading stories like this just reinforces my feelings of futility --- even while it fires me up about the general importance of fanfiction, written by others! LOL

Now there will always be nasty critiques out there but believe it or not those nasty critique actually DO help out quite a bit, sure it might bring you down every once in a while but sometimes (to me at least) it makes me better myself even more kinda push myself to the limits and see what I can do I personally view that as a challenge

But a bit of an aggro pt is fun. I just recently found that out. Hawke is more blunt and no nonsense..not psycho.
Anyway, that was not the point. Uh, yes, the writing: well, what I've found to be true is that w/writing--I guess like any other art--is that in order to get better, you actually have to do it. Nobody just jumps in it and is an amazing genius with it.
Some ppl do have a knack for it, I think. I think the ability to empathize and really put yourself in other's shoes may give them an edge. But even then, it's a skill that must be honed. No getting around it. It's like some really smart ppl I've known in life that never amounted to much cuz they didn't have the desire or discipline to do the hard work.
Sooooo--everybody is an amateur. Lol! But if it's something you ultimately enjoy, do it. Don't think twice abt the haters. I say this as someone who has over time grown a thick skin.
I worked as a Craps Dealer in the casino for a number of years until recently. Lemme tell ya--especially has a female--it could be rough. I've been called, "b*tch; wh*re; d*ke; sl*t; prude--oh, and "mannish"; more times than I can count. (you can tell alot abt ppl by how they handle their losses--and wins for that matter).
And as an amateur writer--cuz I have yet to sell anything to a publisher, or sign on w/a literary agent. I actually found the rejections from agents and publishers far more difficult to deal with than anything somone called me at the casino because the art is so much more personal.
It is a very personal part of yourself, so the rejections sting quite a bit. Buuuuttt...I mean, you suck it up and carry on. You look for any valid criticism, pick it up and discard the rest. It's not easy at first, but you come to realize that the sky does not fall.
Lud, I'm rambling.
Hmm, think it's time to google sum sexy!Cullen pics. brb.

Hush you! Now where would we be if Tolkien or JK Rowling let that doubt get the better of them! Without Kili and Richard Armitage on the screen! So you write that novel! And I'll buy tickets to the moviemotomotogirl wrote...

That said, I've felt inclined for a long, long time to edit a lot of my old fics and remove the NSFW content. It just embarrasses me for some reason! I was fine writing it at the time and even got a kick out of fans' responses, but now I just look at what I've written and feel as if I've debased my own stories lol Of course, one of my stories (original fiction) I'm trying to turn into a novel, and so the NSFW stuff definitely won't make the cut lol Also, yes, I'm laughing at my belief in myself that I could actual write a novel....

As for myself, I am a very creatively constipated person. I'm a very hands on visual type but I can't draw. I also have a hard time putting words together to try to explain what I am seeing in my head without going overboard because, like I said, I am a much more visual person.

Same here. When I come up with ideas they play out in my head like a movie, so trying to explain or describe a concept either on paper or via word of mouth never comes out right, lol. I guess I'm more of a show rather than tell person.

That's not really...attractive to me. Idk, it just looks like they're trying too hard to make it voluminous. Like it's actually thinning. Too much gel stuff, too.
Good lord, if Cullen is in game, I hope he comes out okay. Better than okay. Smexy! I hope the hair is natural looking and thick. I hope his face is natural looking. I worry abt so many things with this...

I keep thinking that with what happened to him at Kirkwall, don't be surprised
Who knows? Maybe there's a quest line for the Inquisitor to rehabilitate him back to the exceptional warrior he once was...a task I'm certain everyone here is more than willing to take.

And this is why inviting someone called Moran to a Sherlock event was doomed from the beginning...
(A Stenishok cookie to the first person who gets the reference)
What an appalling thing to do, subjecting both the cast and the original author of that work to that level of embarrassment. I mean, on a meta-level it's actually rather amusing that we're talking about fanfic of a show that is essentially a modern AU Holmes-fanfic, but I think that most people would have enough tact and deceny when discussing some of the NSFW fanfiction you find out there.
Bringing fanfics up? Fine. Reading some herself? Fine if tasteful and brief. Making the cast read it for some time? Not okay!
In our own fandom, this would be like during a book-reading of "Hard in Hightown" by Varric, the event organisers bring up his saucy friend-fiction about Aveline and Donnic, before forcing Aveline to come up on stage and read some of it out.
"I swear, for a brief moment I thought that Aveline was going to organise an impromptu book burning with me and Isabela fixed atop the pyre. If only it was the stuff about Carver, at least he said he enjoyed "Fifty Shades of Grey Warden"".

I keep thinking that with what happened to him at Kirkwall, don't be surprisedifWHEN we see him for the first time in DAI he'll have long hair and perhaps a scruffy beard. It's quite possible that he may have left the Templars on his own or may have been removed for disobeying Meredith's orders. I'm certain the events of the Mage/Templar conflict had to affect his psyche somehow.
Who knows? Maybe there's a quest line for the Inquisitor to rehabilitate him back to the exceptional warrior he once was...a task I'm certain everyone here is more than willing to take.
I'd like the long hair thing, but it's gonna be tricky getting the hair right I think. I hope it's nothing too out there.
