That place looks awesome though. I like the idea of a deep unexplored forest where we rediscover some elven ruins (possibly that one from the first three concept art pieces where the Warden is standing in an overgrown courtyard).

Maybe something to do with the Lavellan family?

What are the Arbor Wilds?? Is this important? I will of course be playing a Lavellan

I'm increasingly intrigued about this character he's wanted to write for 15 years. And, now also about which follower was rewritten top to bottom. Hmm.

Wow. Same. It's too bad we don't know if it's a companion or an NPC.... OH WAIT A SECOND!!! This is the first time he's referred to him/her as a follower! So it's definitely a companion! Who could this be???

1. It could be a new character. That means one of the companions we've not yet met (i.e. Sera, Dorian, the Iron Bull, etc.) has been percolating in DG's mind for 15 years. Wow.

2. It could be a character who's had a bit part in past games (i.e. Cassandra) who DG for some reason did not write.

3. It could be a character who was previously written by someone else but that writer retired or left. HMMMM. 

That said, I don't imagine DG's been chomping at the bit to write Cullen for 15 years, but still.

And I, too, wonder who's been completely rewritten. It's probably a new person, like Sera, etc. because someone like Cassandra, her storyline was probably set in stone long ago.

I think I'm more interested in what being rewritten top to bottom means coming from the good Lord Gaider. Was it like a total gender/class/outlook on the world change or just what their story was and how it flowed?

Vivienne is Kirby's is she not? She had that whole thing of claiming the letter V, unless it was one of the other female writer's names I'm totally blanking on right now.
Luke (insert last name here) is writing Sera if I recall correctly.
Patrick Weekes' twitter suggests he got the Iron Bull.
Gaider has Cassandra plus at least one mystery companion, (it's totes Cole, yo)

That would leave Elfy McSmugness, Beardface, and Cullen(?). Assuming our mad speculation skillz are on target.

Wait. If Cole is the one he's been waiting 15 years to write, then that means Gaider has ANOTHER companion up his sleeve because he said Cole will not be a LI and he's written two LIs for Inquisition.

Well, the thing is... why would talk about "always wanting to write" Cole when he's already written Cole? Granted not as a follower, but that seems semantically odd to me.

On the followers he has written, one was added late in the process. I suppose I would guess that's the rewrite? My brain immediately starts to think about how we were convinced that Tonia wrote Cullen really early on. What if that all had to be redone, given the way the game has evolved since then? I still doubt he's writing Cullen, but it could be a similar situation.

I'm curious about this character too. Hmm... 15 years ago would peg this at approximately Baldur's Gate. And the rewrite of the other character, could that have occurred because of the addition of the races?

I was just reading that blog and came here to talk about it, and everybody else already is.

Yay, more news! *does a happy dance* Hopefully it's the video they promised, and a few screenshots of the female Inquisitor in action. Some Cullen-related news would be appreciated, too. 

Hearing them talk about giving us more news makes me want a demo or something. I know we still have a year until it's released, but I can't wait to get my grubby little paws on the demo or the CC if they release it early like they did for Origins.

Also, before I forget, Happy New Year everyone! Where I'm at, there's about 2 more hours until it's 2014. Can't wait to break open the bottle of sparkling grape juice (I hate wine[smilie]http://social.bioware.com/images/forum/emoticons/sick.png[/smilie]) and celebrate!

Ah, that's true. I dunno, he just seems pretty protective over Cole and discussions surrounding his character, so it just seems like that's a character that he has put a lot of thought and time in to. I guess we'll just have to wait and see!

Agree. If Cole's in the game, I'm sure you're right that DG is certainly writing him. Hmm. Perhaps this points to Cole not being a follower...?

A belated merry christmas and happy new year to you all, fellow Cullenites. Even though I haven't posted often through 2013, it's only because I don't generally come up with witty contributions. I'm definitely still around reading and appreciating all the fun discussion and the shenanigans that happen in here. I can say for sure that you all brighten up my life. Still the best thread on the BSN!

 Well, my New Year's Eve was pleasantly uneventful. All of our residents were visiting their families, so there was no one to supervise and all I had to do was answer the phones to provide behavior management support if the parents needed it (or go pick up the kid if it got too rough for them.) Happily, no one called! So I was super proud of the kids for holding it together, and I got to have a peaceful New Year's Eve doing paperwork stuff. I ended up hanging out for awhile with the overnight shift and watching the ball drop on TV with them. Fun times! 

I'm so excited for the new DA3 news!  I keep checking back for it; I've been trying to tell myself that they're not going to post it during a holiday, but I can't help myself. The last time I had this much anticipation for a game was Guild Wars 2, and I remember once the information started to flow how hard the waiting got - but how fun it was, too!

Don't hate me for this, but I'm no longer convinced Cole is a follower. I really like him and it would be cool if he was, but... after reading Asunder, I just don't see how it could work in terms of mechanics. It works in book because you can have the main characters forget things as the author dictates, but it's harder in a game to convince the players to be that meta about things we remember and our character isn't supposed to - and I just don't see how that could be sustained for a whole game. The only way I can see it is if early on we found a "cure" for the whole memory thing, but it seems like it would be tough to have Cole be a major character without taking away a lot of his uniqueness. I could be wrong, but personally I'm not placing my bets on Cole.

I'm guessing the character DG has always wanted to write is one of the new people. Reason being... well, frankly otherwise I don't see any reason he wouldn't have done it yet. The way the dev team has described their writing process seems quite collaborative, and if he had someone he was that passionate about writing, I can't see him being told no for previous game appearances. So, I'm guessing he's not talking about Varric, Cass, or Cullen - although it could be just about anyone else.

I couldn't even begin to speculate who the rewritten character is. That could truly be anyone, and I don't think we could guess it without more information. It could be that something changed about the character or their writer, but it could also be that something changed in the main plot or overall setting that happened to affect that character significantly... so without knowing what prompted the change, I can't begin to speculate who was changed.
