Also, I had forgotten how much I absolutely adore the the way DA:O introduces us to each origin and our choosen Warden. I love how Duncan talks us through our Warden's backstory and fills us in on a couple of details whilst the camera gives you a sweeping Birdseye view of the area he/she lives, then the scene plays out as your Warden is introduced and you take the reigns. Such a good way to start a game, I was hoping Hawke would be introduced in a similar manner
We should have seen Lothering' destruction. We should have scene Hawke's home. Theres actually an early trailer where you see a Lothering type building that is on fire and Hawke is watching it. .
The Lothering introduction to the family was so poorly done.

When I played the game I was expecting to start off in Lothering prior to sh!t hitting the fan. I was really curious to see how they would portray Lothering in DA2 and I was looking forward to carrying out a bunch mini quests and being introduced to our family members and neighbours Noble origins style, only to have everything go to sh!t and our neighbours die as Hawke and his/her family escape the burning remains of their home.
Maybe they didn't want it to be too similar to DA:O, but that was one of the things that I felt was seriously lacking in DA2. Maybe that's one of the reasons that I didn't bond with Hawke as much as I did with my Warden, we never really got to glimpse into what his/her life was like prior to Kirkwall.

There were elements of DA:2 that I enjoyed. I thought ACT 2 with the Qunari was brilliantly done. Its probably why I gave the game a 7/10 but the beginning of ACT 1 was such a letdown
The letters we got from Lothering survivors just did not do anything for me either.
Considering the game only sold half of what Origins sold........I think they realize they screwed up.
I get the distinct feeling the most pissed off fan group for the next game will be the hardcore DA2 fans

I thought Karma mod was a group of people LOL!
In case it helps connect a few of the dots, Lola, the cutscene feedback group we've joined is for that mod. Allacia is creating unique hook up cutscenes for each of the companion romances in Karma's mod. So, I guess there is a little bit of a team contributing to it currently, if that clears up any confusion.

Ah! That's where I was getting confused lol. Thanks!

Oooo I'd forgotten about the letters from the Lothering survivors! That's someone else I wanted to meet in Lothering: the girl that sends a letter to either Bethany or Carver. If you're a male she goes on about how much she fancies him and that she'd "filled out nicely" since they'd last seen her, and if you played as a female she drops a hint about how she used to shag Carver lol. It would have added to the "lol" factor if she happened to turn up in DA3, especially if she turns out to be really unattractive and an attention seeker/flirty, I could just imagine her trying her luck with Cullen and him being like "erm, can I get a little help here... please?!"
LOL wasn't her name something cheesy like Peaches or something? Yeah, without knowing anything about those people, the letters didn't have quite the resonance they might have.
But you know... I don't personally think seeing Lothering would've added that much, since everyone you meet in Lothering will then just... die. I think what we need to know about the Hawke family at that point is that they're alone, and on the run. I think I would rather them spend resources on giving us insight into her as a part of Kirkwall, like seeing how the people there actually see her and know her. Thinking about the Warden origins, it gave us insight into the Warden's feelings and motivations for setting out on her epic quest. I think that may be what we needed more of with Hawke, not so much where did she come from, but what is she feeling, what is it like to be Champion, does she love it? hate it? Did she have any interest in being Viscount? I dunno.. just a few thoughts of the top of my head. I've never really thought about that before...

Yeah, I kinda felt like we never got much of an insight into Hawke's life aside from running around doing quests, and because there wasn't such a wide variety of quests in DA2 I always felt like we never really got to experience what Hawke was like during his/her free time, especially since there was so little to do in Kirkwall. That's another reason why I hope DA3 will adopt a similar concept to ME3 and give the protagonist and companions a bit of "down time" between quests where we chill out and maybe hang out with the companions for a little while. I know we didn't really have that in DA:O, but the campsite area kinda felt like somewhere we could relax and socialise with our companions.
*Edit* wow, I seemed to forget how to form coherent sentences just then lol.

he'd make a nice returning character, a good background but still many thing we don't know
Yeah, that's why he'd make such a good companion/love interest because he has an interesting and colourful past, but he's a clean enough slate that so much can be done with his character.

I've been thinking a lot about Cullen's background, and I've pretty much decided that if I were writing the character, I would write him as the chantry-raised son of a mage. He would have been told that he was a foundling, but he would have persistent doubts about the truth of this. He doesn't really fit the personality profile of a volunteer templar. He is devout, no question about it, but compare him with Samson and others who elect to become templars. Even Thrask is more corrupt than he is.
Maybe we'll find out in the next game.

So, providing they don't change his personality drastically I'd like to think that he'd make quite a few bad attempts at wry snarky humour and ask a bunch of really odd questions, often opening his mouth before thinking lol. I love how he still talks simply, openly and directly to Hawke 'n' co without even knowing whether they can be trusted or not. There's still something so innocent and naive about him, like he has nothing to hide (even his crush on Amell) despite what he's been through. If he is a companion in DA3, I hope they keep that aspect of his personality intact because it's very sweet and it's a personality trait we haven't seen in a male DA companion yet.

Ooooh... like maybe the son of a female Templar and a Circle mage? Or a different type of coupling? For some reason I always imagine magical ability passing through the mother, even though my head knows there's nothing in the lore to support that. You just never hear about Circle babies that come from Templar mothers, so I find that idea intruiging.
But there's some sweet irony in the child returning to the roots of his/her unknown parent. Like Alistair, in about three different ways. Fun!

I'm not sure I go with the female templar/male mage scenario because there would be too many repercussions for being in that situation in the first place. It would destroy her career. Any authority she had would be too thoroughly compromised for her to retain the position. I like it as a love story ala Rhys and Evangeline, but the templar would never be able to stay in the order after that.

What happens if we romance Cullen but I'm the end he has to kill our protagonist, except the protagonist will probably need plot armor, so Cullen demands that she kill him instead because he can't bring himself to do it? (Kinda like how Tamlen asks you to kill him when he comes back as a ghoul and he tells you he loves you.) Man that would be soooo sad, kinda cool though.

That's a possibility, I'd personally want him to be a romancable companion because I enjoy listening to the banter between companions and I'm one of those people that will drag the LI literally everywhere so that I don't miss any interaction or banter/convo with them lol. That being said, if he's a romancable non-companion in DA3 I'd still pick him because the poor guy deserves some happiness. Lol, look at me getting all protective over pixels.
haha Nothing wrong with that!

That's a definite possibility, if the templar is the father (I'm sure Wynne refused to name the father, since she seemed to imply that Rhys wasn't the product of rape), but if the templar is the mother, that gets tricky. DG has gone on the record as saying that templars have a policy against fraternization, i.e. having relationships with coworkers, so a female templar would be under a lot of pressure to name the father. Not that it would matter. If he was a mage, she would be kicked out for deliberately compromising her authority. If he was a templar, she would be out for breaking the "no fraternization" policy. I have no idea what would happen if she said it was Kester.LolaLei wrote...
I guess it would depend if the mage mother admits to who the father is, if she refuses to tell or pretends it's another mage then the Templar gets to keep his job.
Anyway, she'd be out of a job one way or another, so there would be no need to put the child in the chantry.
