I really hoped I was wrong with this but sadly, I am not.

I have noticed over the past few weeks this thread has turned extremely cliquish. It also has become apparent that people outside the "inner circle" who comment and ask questions are pretty much ignored (I found it particularly disheartening that a simple question I asked over 3 hours ago didn't warrant a single reply in the three full pages afterward). On the other hand, it's not too far from the truth that anyone from the "in" group could cough and be inundated with numerous "OMGareyousickhopeyougetbettersoon!" posts.

Hey, it is what it is.  And since I'm not one of the chosen few there's really no point in coming in here anymore.  Maybe if I spent more time here it wouldn't have been an issue. Unfortunately caring for aging parents and enduring a brutal work schedule just doesn't give me that luxury anymore. I come in and comment when I can but clearly it's not enough.

That being said, there are a few people I'd like to thank for their conduct in this forum during the time I was here. There are also a few who I'd not like to thank. But seeing as everyone pretty much knows who they are I won't name names.

Take care, have fun and thanks for all the Cullen.

Um, what??? I didn't see your question... obviously... try to calm down. Just repeat your question. (Or maybe no one had an answer.)

Lola had a question earlier about her video. I had no idea how to answer it, so I didn't. Sometimes that happens.

This thread is the least clique-ish and nicest one on the BSN. Just relax and repeat your question.

Is this your question??? You're leaving the thread because no one answered this? I can't even answer it b/c I wasn't here when DA2 was released.

I highly doubt everyone saw that question and thought, F*** MageTarot, I ain't answering that! .... lol :innocent:

.........What?

I actually left another thread and came here because of drama and hatefulness in that other thread. There's never been any of that here.

If you want to go though, then go... It's just not a very nice way to go. Everyone here is so nice and no one deserves a nasty good-bye message like that. Sheesh!

I didn't know the answer to your question. I wasn't playing the series yet when DA2 was released.

Sorry you felt ignored, but your reaction (particularly since you only gave it a few hours for a question that many people wouldn't know the answer to) seems pretty extreme.

Eeep. I think it's really easy to miss comments or questions, or to skip over a question when you have no answer for it. I know I can't remember how the LIs were announced, and I don't want to answer with a 'I have no idea, bro' because that's really not helpful and I feel would come off as more annoying than inclusive.

That said there are some occasions where people's opinions can appear like they've been shut down a little forcefully, but I think that's more the medium than the intention. It's difficult to read text with intended emotions, unless, like, there's a massive smiley spam to go along with it. That's partly why I spam smilies where I can, it's my 'pleasedon'tthinkI'manarsehatI'msosorry' tick.

And I'm rambling, but I don't think anyone here means to ignore anyone or make them feel unwelcome, and I say that as someone who isn't around as much as everyone else too. It's just a matter of text, not knowing how to answer a question, or missing it. orz orz.

Haha I spam smilies, too :lol::lol::lol:

Cause this is me in real life:

And if I typed like that people would think I was a serial killer.

Yeah, I hadn't seen your question, MageTarot, but I think I know. If I recall correctly, they announced the news through the Bioware blog. But the threads very quickly erupted once the news had broke and it wasn't long before actually pretty good fan arts cropped up. I'll just double check.

Hello Dragon Age 2 fans.

Happy Valentine’s Day to one and all. We know many of you have romance on your minds today, so we thought we would confirm for you the potential romance characters in Dragon Age 2.

You can choose to romance:
Isabela
Fenris
Merrill
Anders

Keep in mind that all Dragon Age 2 romances are optional, so you can choose to follow these subplots or not as you prefer. All four NPCs also have other non-romance subplots that you can again choose to follow if you want to learn more about these characters. To learn more about the romances, you will need to play Dragon Age 2.

So, if you are romantically inclined during your Dragon Age 2 playthroughs, you now know who you can pursue. Pitch your woo accordingly. Image IPB

This thread does really MOVE sometimes, especially on the weekends. I've been gone all day, and this page has moved forward by four pages. It's 6 in the morning, and I'm just now catching up. I missed your question - didn't even see it until you said something and I had to search for your username with Ctrl+F.

Sometimes questions get missed, and if no one knows how to answer then they don't fill a space with "idk"; or, they think someone else will know and maybe that person hasn't returned or that person missed the question.

You gotta be patient, luv.

I remember when the romances were first announced. It was pretty awesome. A part of me likes knowing who the romances are, the other part wants to be surprised. THE LAST TIME I WAS SURPRISED THOUGH WAS IN MASS EFFECT 3 AND JOKER THREW REGS AT ME. 8[

Huh, well, I'm really sad to read this. As an old timer, all I can think is that this was somehow directed at me, for which I'm sorry I made you feel this way. Also, it honestly feels like it's coming out of left field. I was on and did see your question about the Valentine's Day LIs, but I figured someone who actually knew the answer would respond, as opposed to me saying "I heard it was on Valentine's Day but I wasn't around so I don't know how it was done."

As someone who tries hard to welcome new folks and keep the conversation going, despite a busy schedule,  I'd actually appreciate a constructive suggestion on how to do better when folks are all on different time zones, different work schedules, and different amounts of time to contribute to the thread. Myself, I've just started a new job that also limits my time here, and despite that I still try my best to help moderate an unmoderated forum.

As for  being cliquish, yes, there are folks I know better who have been around longer. But, incidentally, most current posters are rather new, as the thread turns over quite frequently. Despite that, I think it overall tends to be rather welcoming. Even to trolls.

So, I'm sad you're leaving. There are plenty of times that I also feel like my post doesn't get seen or everyone responds to someone else saying the same thing. It just happens. You can't herd cats in RL, and even less effectively on a forum.

Eeesh, what did I miss?

I hadn't even seen the question MageTarot had posted, that being said I've been using my phone on here so I miss 80% of everything posted, lol. Still, no reason for her to feel like she should leave. Loads of questions go unanswered daily.

I'm sorry she feels like that. I wonder if she'll pop back in to read these?

Whether she does or not, this is probably an opportunity for us.

So, these kinds of accusation have been flung around before, and I'd like to engage everyone in a discussion of their expectations for a forum like this. I think given how conversational it gets, it's easy to forget that we're just a random group of  people here for our own interests. All with crazy schedules, families, friends, jobs, school, what have you.  While I like to self-style myself as the sheriff around these parts when discussions  head into divisive territory, I am not in fact a moderator here, nor is any of us. And, no one is on 24/7.

Now something I like about the Cullen thread, besides Cullen, and why I've stayed, is that this was one of the only threads on BSN where folks talked back to me. Most threads here are just a litany of people posting a comment and no one else noticing. When there are back and forth discussions, more often than not it's to tell someone they're wrong/stupid/whatever. But usually that doesn't happen here. Folks SEE each other and talk. Now, not always, because it is basically a bulletin board sitting out in cyberspace and folks stop by as they can, contribute a few posts, and then go back to their busy lives. None of us is perfect. We do, however, try our best to be a community, which is why we've lasted this long.

But it seems it still fails sometimes. So what can we do differently? With no one moderator, should we enjoin everyone to work harder to enfranchise everyone who stops by? Should we stop being so conversational so no one feels left out? Should we abandon ship, no pun intended, and let the DA2 character threads finally die their long deserved death?

:police: "Discuss," said the non-moderator.

Hm, that's an interesting thought.

I mean, perhaps we do need to re-assess a few things? Personally, I don't find this thread to be clique-ish at all. Granted, we've had our moments when things have got heated or people thought that others were ganging up on individuals, but that was almost always fueled by a misunderstanding or external issues from trolls attacking us or giving the "fangirls" a bad name elsewhere on the internet etc.

I guess it's easy for people to presume that most of us are here 24/7 since this is the only thread in the entire BSN that's old but still incredibly active, so it's understandable that others would think/feel like we're elitist or something. Obviously none of us live in this forum, we all have real life stuff to deal with and as such sometimes posts get overlooked, it happens to everyone and is no way done to make anyone feel isolated or left out. Personally, I feel that this thread is doing fine, and I'd hate to see it die a death when we've got so much more DAI/Cullen news to come... and hell, if he does end up being a companion and/or LI then this thread, or an upgraded shiner new one in the DAI forum has got years left in it!

Well I'm not very good with people, I feel, so it's hard for me to start conversations. But when I stumbled across this thread not too long ago, it felt like just one big happy conversation which was easier for me to slip into. For me, it was because you were all so pally and conversational that I felt brave enough and comfortable enough to join in. But that's just me.

I don't think I've ever posted in here, and have only rarely lurked, maybe a handful of times. I only really know about it indirectly through a mutual friend of a couple of the posters in here.

I happened to glance in out of curiousity, just now, and saw the recent comment about cliques and so on.

I'm an officer in a couple of private social groups that have a lot in common with this thread, and deal with occasional challenges like some of what has been described in here, but I have a very different take on it.

Personally, I'm impressed with what you guys have going on in this thread. I find it really incredible that a single, open thread in the public forums is such a dynamic, welcoming, and kind place for people to meet and greet. There's a genuine sense of camraderie and compassion in here, that has been fostered without the safeguards that we rely on in my groups.

I don't know how you guys do it, but I find it really impressive.

Some people won't find themselves a good fit for a place like this, and that's fine. Not all social dynamics happen easily or without effort, but I think the people in here have created something really special. You guys deserve this place, and I hope it carries on for a very, long time. :)

This thread is definitely very different to any other forum or thread I've visited before, I like to think that we're welcoming to both new comers and returning oldies.

I agree with what has been posted so far , as in questions/posts get overlooked or ppl dont know the answer to them, I, myself sometimes ramble about none-sense :P and some of my posts get ignored but not every post can be replied too, like for example when I was "mad" that they didn't show the PAX demo, even tho I was raging, ppl from here showed me that it wasn't the end of the world and that we  get to see it eventually, a lot of the times Im kind of a spoiled brat. And I like to thank you guys for calming me down when needed too, even tho at the time I felt "attacked" witch clearly it wasn't the case, so thank you Cullen thread for sticking together through good and bad times ^_^

I think it's always worth remembering that quite often the majority of us flit in and out of this thread throughout the day whilst at work/college/uni/school/etc and as such we don't always have the time to type up a reply, especially if it's to a topic that requires some thought or that we want to sit down and type up a decent reponse to. Of course, sometimes by the time we all get home the thread has jumped 7+ pages and the original post has become obsolete, lol.

Aw, thanks so much for this perspective. We're definitely trying our best, so it upsets me that we've, at least in my case, inadvertently upset others. It's nice to hear that it's a  universal challenge. :)

I have often posted and get no direct response. I don't expect one. I don't see what the big deal is. This is the most welcoming thread on the BSN. Perhaps a simple "I would appreciate a response / dialog on X,Y Z..." would be more appropriate than fuming over hurt feelings.

Hell, sometimes I like to post up whatever DA/DAI/Cullen related idea/theory/concern I have in here just to get it down "on paper". If someone replies then it's a bonus.

And, Lola, ag99 and elfman, thanks for your perspectives, as well. Knowing just how to seed the conversation so it keeps going is a challenge, particularly when we've discussed so many Culleny things already ad nauseum. So in some sense, I think what keeps it new for me are the people and sharing the excitement for Cullen and for the game.
