Probably couldn't hold a magic staff without breaking it on accident. Poor sods.

Wait those were Genlocks? I thought they were just inbred ogres.

 Inbred ogres.

I do like the new darkspawn designs. They seem more scary to me and make more sense in my opinion; especially the new designs for the shrieks in the World of Thedas. We haven't seen any in game yet, but they look more like they're derived from elves instead of puppies.

Edit: Okay, I take that back. We saw some in Legacy.

Yup, those are definitely genlocks. That's why people on BSN were so angry about the darkspawn redesigns. It looks completely different from the original.

This. They scared the crap out of me when I first saw them, though, not gonna lie.

I'm fine with the genlock redesign, even if I did find genlocks quite cute in Origins, my problem was the hurlocks now look like burn victim gimps.

 The hurlocks do look pretty bad.

I hope Bioware either returns to the old darkspawn design most people prefer, or comes up with a better redesign.

I think the DAII engine was most at fault for that, and, personally, other than that I rather like the hurlock redesign. They look more like jacked up humans rather than orc wannabees, which was the point, I imagine, seeing the darkspawn are meant to be simply twisted versions of humans/dwarves/elves/qunari.

The concept art of them in the World of Thedas is pretty rad. :wizard:

I think it's more a case of "I played DA:O first and omg they changed them in DA2, noooo!" Cause I played DA2 first and I definitely prefer those to DA:O version lol But objectively speaking, I realize that they are just monsters... they're fine in both games.

Matt Rhodes stated there were technical reasons for the appearance change, as the old darkspawn tended to blend into the environment too easily. Also, the armour the darkspawn wore in Origins was far too intricate, which I readily agree with.

I preferred the redesigned Genlocks in Dragon Age 2.

In Origins, I found the Genlocks to be strangely adorable and I always thought that an evil Warden should have had the option to put them on a leash and sic them on their enemies.

The mutant half-dwarf, half-gorilla monsters from DA2... I truly came to fear. They're like the gorram Krogan in battle.

I'll be honest, I didn't even notice that they had changed the Darkspawns appearance when I first played DA2... I didn't notice the repetitive caves and environments either. :-S

Yeah, but they become more apparent when you go to replay it. I played through it twice and enjoyed both times... But I can never finish that third playthrough.

LOL I thought it was just me... on both counts. :D It took me FOREVER to notice the cave layout was the same. Even once I noticed, I still got disoriented if I entered the cave from a different direction. Bad spatial perception, I guess. :P I figured BW was just counting on the fact that folks are like me.

I never noticed the recycled environments my first time through DA2, was usually too busy listening to the various bits of party banter to notice. Suspect that in Inquisition, I'll be again too busy listening to Varric to notice the giant Dragon currently annihilating my forces.

"And so the Inquisition failed, for the Inquisitor was too distracted by the handsome Dwarf..." - Most Epilogue Slides.

I think I noticed it but didn't think it was a big deal. Considering this was my first RPG, I guess I thought that was just how it was done  Didn't disrupt my enjoyment of the game.

LOL Awesome. I think for my game it will be:

"And so the Inquisition failed, for the Inquisitor was too distracted by the handsome Dwarf former Knight-Captain..." - Most Epilogue Slides.

Yeah, it wasn't until people pointed it out and I went back to play it a second or third time and ended up doing a bunch of cave quests in a row that I saw it for myself, lol.

I did notice the map recycling and it annoyed me a bit that even on the first playthough I could predict precisely where enemies would pop up (or actually, jump down from the roofs). And regarding the darkspawn... I like both the DA:O genlocks, with their awkward cuteness, as the gorilla wannabes from DA:2. But the hurlocks... DA:O, hands down! The DA:2 ones were more zombies to me.

Or in my case: "And so the Inquisitor died horrible, gory death... she was too busy aiming the camera at the former Knight-Captain's arse to notice the 40-foot dragon swoop down and bit her head off."

The main thing I remember about my first playthrough of DA2 was that it felt like one big FedEx quest, and when the action finally kicked in (the Meredith final battle) I was like "finally! NOW the action kicks in" and then it ended and I was like... "wtf, that game was really short!"
