I can't believe no one has posted for 12 hours. I gotta break that up.

So if we don't (maker forbid) get Cullen as a companion and LI, who would you choose in his place? I think odds are good that for male LI's, our choices are:

Varric
Grey Warden Guy
Iron Bull
Elf McSmuggins

(Am I missing any males?)

And if you're into the ladies, I think choices will be:

Cassandra
Vivienne
Sera
...Possibly Dagna, but only because she was mentioned in one of the slides at PAX.

I personally would choose Varric, then Grey Warden guy, then I'd have to try out all the others (in different play-throughs). Also will have to try out all possible choices at any brothels that may be visited.

...For the first time, I'll actually have a real hard time picking if those are the LIs. I mean... Varric is awesome and I love how McSmugson looks so smug.  Beardy Grey Warden looks pretty swank too, at least from what we've seen of him in concept art. And I have a horrible soft spot for character types like Iron Bull, if he ends up like how we think he might...

You know, I'd probably just let my Inquisitor decide who would fit with them best. I already know I'll be doing all the playthroughs.

This. Though Smugness needs hair, I'm kind of vain like that. And Beardface maybe has too much hair for my elf. It'll just make him seem much older and my elf will be shorter than him...it's just going to look borderline inappropriate in my eyes. Just stay my elf's Giles and I'll romance him all night long with my qunari, I promise. Failing Cullen and any secrets, I think my elf will be forever alone to be honest. Not that I don't want to romance Vivienne or Cassandra, (preferably Vivienne), but I just can't see her with a woman. My human definitely, my qunari maybe. I could maybe see her going for Sera, but that would involve de-friendzoning her. Argh, too complicated! Give me Cullen or give me (lonely) death!

As for the male companions that we have currently seen so far, for now none of them seems to appeal to me, but I will wait and see if there are any new ones, or if not then I guess I will romance the ladies

Here's what I think: 

For awhile there I was really scared the male LIs would be Varric and Elfy McSmuggins/Dorian. But it just occurred to me now: BW would not make a dwarf and an elf our only male LIs.

So to me these are the possibilities:

1. Grey Warden guy is a LI. I would put his chances at 40%. He is at least in his 50s. And yes although everyone in THIS thread would have NO problem romancing a silver fox such as himself, I don't know if the team would go there. In his favor: dev comments that the LI would not be "tradiaionally" attractive.

2. Cullen is a LI. So if Cullen is a companion, his chances are 95%. But since IMO his chances of being a companion are about 30% right now, that significantly lowers his chances at being a LI, obviously. 

3. Dorian is not Elfy McSmuggins. If Dorian is a human male mage, then it's possible he is our human LI. However, that means BW are giving us a dwarf/ef and a mage for LI. They did this with DA2 and I think some people weren't happy with how "wimpy" the male LIs were (to put it nicely). Some fans want a manly warrior type. 

4. There is a previously unreleased, un-hinted at male human companion.

So those are my thoughts  what y'all think?

Not gonna lie, for once I want all the things. 

I mean... I'm interested in Cullen, of course, but I'm on the fence over whether I believe he'll be a companion and LI. I also love the hell out of the potential in Beardy Grey Warden, Varric, Iron Bull, McSmugson...

For the females... I also want all the things. Cassandra looks so awesome, and I love Vivienne's sass and how she seems like a take charge kind of woman, but I also like what we'ver seen of the blonde elf in concept art, so...!

When it comes to who I think Bioware will make romanceable (assuming there won't be race-resistricted romances)...

Human and likely an elf, I think. 

Cassandra I think has been sort of almost pretty much confirmed as an LI... so there's the female human, and I imagine the blonde elf will be the other female LI. As for males... unless Cullen is a companion or another male we don't know about, it will be Beardy Grey Warden and McSmugson.

Human/elf seems like a safe formula, I guess? 

Not that I'd be disappointed in the least if they change that! I'm certainly not going to flip tables if I'm proven wrong there.

#1: Well, I guess Beardy would be too old for some, but I personally don't think so. I think he looks fun, and I like his beard. He seems like an interesting chracter, and, if he's not an LI, he would totally be my Inquisitor's bestie.

#2: I agree that if Cullen were to be a companion, he would have a high chance of being an LI. Mostly because Bioware needs an attractive human male LI, and Cullen fits the bill. (I already have my hopes up about him. I'm setting myself up for disappointment.)

#3: I would love another male mage in my party. If what the leak said is true, Dorian sounds like he could offer some great insight and give us an interesting perspective into the Mage vs Templar War. As for being an LI, I think my Inquisitor would be interested in him if he truly is against what the magisters do to their slaves and such. If he condones slavery of any kind, then he has absolutely no chance with my Inquisitor. Simple as that.

#4: Bioware always has something to surprise us. Always. I definitely think they have another super secret male LI hidden somewhere, and I can't wait to find out who it is.

I know; it's too hard to say. Something interesting to think about is that the writers are also getting older. It's been 5+ years since DA:O. As you get older, you see the potential in older characters. And there was that comment about DA:I LIs not being traditionally attractive. I feel like he has a higher chance than I actually gave him.

WOW What happened to the Case for Cullen?  Or at this point, is the case merely arguing that he's in the game, some way, some how? Or is it just about not wanting to be disappointed? (If it helps, I'm also thinking he's not a companion at this point.)

One thing's for sure, I don't think we will get Dorian the Human Mage AND Elfy McSmuggins in our party. We would not have three mages, I don't think. We never have before.

Yes, I think this will be the case. I don't believe Varric has a great chance of being a LI. On the one hand, I think a lot of people would be upset and annoyed if he were to take up a LI slot (same with Iron Bull, or any non-human/elf LI). On the other hand, I'm pretty sure DG and co. do not care whether any of us actually like what they write LOL He sure doesn't act like he gives a crap what any of us think or feel. (I'm going by his super snarky online persona; I still greatly respect and admire him as a writer.)

What? In what way?? How? When? To my knowledge, she has not been confirmed at all, nor has it been hinted at (possible exception are the little heart designs in her armor.) We don't know at all whether or not she's a LI. Vivienne could also be one. Or Sera and a previously unknown female companion could be the LIs.

I tend to dislike mages and usually try to play without having them in the party (It's impossible in Da:O though... urgh, I did get so tired of Wynne, but what are you going to do? You need heals.)

My reasoning here, FWIW, is because of Vivienne. We saw hide nor hair of her until GameInformer reveal. So, I just can't think she's the only one BW has hiding up its collective sleeve. Later on we saw her pic amongst all the leaked survey concept art in that old wall poster in one of the videos, so perhaps she just wasn't included in the marketing survey because she was a sure thing. If that's the case, ergo, there easily could be other possible companions who weren't in the survey because they were also a sure thing. Or were added later when the leaked survey results swayed them for/against someone. 

Anyway, it's just a gut feeling I have, but easily could be wrong.

LOL The Case for Cullen is that he shall appear in the game. I believe this without a doubt. It's the degree of his role that I question. Companion and LI seem like longshots to me, therefore I shall not raise my hopes too high. Important NPC is where I shall continue to place my bet  (and continue to prepare my one-sided courting strategies...).

 I tend to agree with this assessment based on the numbers game. DG is known to be writing at least two companions, and two LIs. It's still a guess, but seems pretty likely, to me, that Cass therefore would fall in both groups.
(of course, if non-companions could be LIs, then all bets are off... )

Yeah, given that I could sum up those two gentlemen by the descriptors, "Mullet Man" and "Mustache Guy," their romanceability does not seem compelling.  LOL  But, they could indeed end up being companions. I still don't know if they're the same guy, or if one or both of them is Dorian. The Dorian *description* sounds intriguing. The visual representations of Mullet Man and Mustache Guy, not so much. 

Now, Mustache Guy with his overdramatic jazz hands could end up being an interesting character. I just hear in my head someone with an Antivan accent saying, "Santa Maria!"
