I and very likely the majority of people think an elf who looks like Nosferatu, a fop with the foppiest mustache in the world, and a dude with a mullet are fugly. It is therefore unlikely that they will be LIs because making ugly characters LIs is bad for business.
There, I said it. I called Mustache Guy ugly. I'm sure he's in a corner crying little pixelated tears.
Sorry, but I draw the line at worrying about hurting the feelings of pixels.

tbh, i thought Zev was kinda ugly, too. well that's not quite true. he was alright. Alistair was kinda average to me. Anders is no looker, imo. Fenris is kinda cute, but overall, physically, not really my type.
They're all pretty nice-looking, I think. I think maybe Anders is the sexiest? Possibly because he seems the oldest. I'm showing my age. Fenris and Zevran are definitely not my type lol But they are adorable.
Cullen is very pretty, but I'm not "into" him like that. He is like Fenris for me <3 I love their characters soooo much and they just make me squee. That's the main reason I'll be so disappointed
Hmm there are few DA characters I actually think are hot. Maybe Duncan? I also like Donnic lol Oh, and of course, Nathaniel. Rrrrr, Nathaniel
Now, a more mature Cullen... like maybe!Cullen from the concept art... THAT I could be seriously, seriously into!!!!!

Hey Chanda! How's the baby? Are you getting any sleep yet? lol!
Between a two year old and a four week old? I'm lucky if I get a four hour stretch of sleep at a time. Hopefully the baby will get on a night time sleep routine pretty soon. But other than that, we're doing pretty good!

Okay, I can't deal with people's constantly hurt feelings in this thread lately. It'd be one thing if truly hurtful things were being said, but come on. Will I get in trouble if I think a character on the cover of a romance novel is triple dog ugly and I thus have no desire to read it? Oh I'm such a bad guy for saying that? It's an effing romance novel cover. Not a real person.

No offence, and to be fair, you got a bit upset at me when I called Aveline manly/ugly, in the end its just a personal preference and how ppl view characters. As I said before, for me personally the male characters that we have seen so far (thats not including Cullen) dont seem that attractive to me but may be to others, still hoping for some new faces tho...

Teagan was hot. I'd do him. Right after I stabbed Isolde in the face.
...is that bad?

It frustrates me when people call Aveline "manly" because they are expressing preferences for conventional standards of gender performativity and (perhaps subconsciously) rejecting any examples that deviate from that.
Calling a woman (or female character) "manly" is not merely calling her "ugly"; it's saying she does not conform to patriarchal standards of beauty.

Ah, if that's how you feel that's fine and I apologise for offending you. I'm going to duck out of the thread until this discussion is over, however. I apologise again for causing bad feelings. I'm just personally made really uncomfortable by that kind of blatant wording about appearances and the like and thought it would be okay and accepted if I shared how I felt. It seems I just caused problems instead, though. Sorry about that.
You can duck out if you want, but I think that would be silly. I'm about to go to bed anyway
I'm not at all offended, just annoyed. You told me that me saying a character was ugly was offensive to you. Well I give up. The word police are here! I mean if you can't say a character is ugly, where does that leave us? Obviously a character can be unattractive initially, but getting to know him/her causes you to gradually like him/her more. Obviously. Same goes for real life.
We were speculating that conventionally unattractive characters are not likely candidates for LIs. That's like being offended that Brad Pitt got cast as the lead LI instead of Jonah Hill. I am such Jonah is a lovely guy once you get to know him, but he's not going to sell tickets like Brad Pitt. End of story.

Beards and mustaches aren't personally my thing, but I didn't see flaily hands guy unattractive and far from 'all out ugly'.
I will admit that all this talk of who's 'completely ugly' and stuff is really uncomfortable for me and difficult for me not to read as all out offensive. I know we all have our personal preferences and the like, I myself have personal preferences for what I find asthetically pleasing, but to call someone, even if it's a character design, 'ugly' and unromancable is... um.... it has implications that whatever their personality might be isn't worth anything in that regard and that they're unworthy of love simply because they're not conventionally attractive.
Sorry if I've offended anyone! I've just found it really uncomfortable everytime the 'baldness is so ugly, he needs hair' and 'ugh, mustache guy is so ugly' comments have come up. And I really don't want to duck out of this thread whenever romance discussion come up just so I can avoid reading that kind of thing.
A-and I'm not trying to say you shouldn't get to say what you personally like! I just mean there's ways to word what you personally prefer without it coming across offensively?
S-sorry.
I know what you're saying.
When DA2 was first released, it was really uncomftorable to read the loads upon loads of posts and threads about how "anorexic", "skeleton like", "unhealthy" and "unrealistic" and how horrible Bioware was for making elves look skinny.
Because, well, my own body structure is pretty much comparable to Merrill. Always has been.
I know it's still just a game design, but still.

In perfect honesty, if attractiveness were based solely on looks, neither Teagan or Nathaniel would do much for me, even though everyone else seems to think they're sex onna stick. Alistair was an entirely different matter. The moment I saw his concept art, my first thought was "DAyamn!" When the game came out, he looked nothing like his concept art, but he still looked pretty fine to me. And Ser Otto, the templar in Denerim's alienage, made me melt.
Which is a long way to get around to saying that I kinda like mustache dude. Those jazz hands make me laugh, and humor has always been the fastest way to get onto my hottie list. Trident guy, not so much, but that may be because the picture was too small to make out the face and too generic to give me any feels one way or another. I admit that I'm not overly fond of mustaches in general (or Greagoir's chin beard, for that matter - if you're going to cultivate the fuzz near your mouth, just grow all of it, already), but it could work for him. It works for Stroud.
Not sure how I feel about Elf McSmugson. I don't think baldness makes him unattractive so much as that top ponytail thing in the other pic turns me into a puddle of Do Want. The elves in DA2 had that kind of mohawk ponytail thing and that had the same effect.

I think if there's something to be learned from our other recent drama, it's that we'd rather folks speak up about what's bothering them than storm out once the damage is done. Dirgegun has done that, and I think we need to respect that.
I think everyone in the thread has acknowledged multiple times that we all have different standards of beauty/attractiveness/romanceability. I think we should try to be cognizant of that. I think Batteries also has a good point that we don't want the negativity of the "Cassandra isn't attractive enough " discussions spilling out here.
But I also think it's not realistic to expect folks here not to discuss the attractiveness of LIs (after all it IS the Cullen thread). Nor do I think it's realistic to expect every statement to include a "This is just my opinion" disclaimer.
Now taking off my thread mom hat, I'll try to clarify my post at which this was directed. I was really just making a mullet joke, for which I will apologize to those I've offended. My real point was that Trident and Mustache guys don't particularly appeal to me, but we've basically seen nothing of them yet. So time will tell.
So I'm hopeful everyone can take a deep breath and come back to the thread. What makes it awesome here is diversity of opinions, all coated in delicious Culleny unity.

I'm sorry if I said anything or worded it in a way that made anyone sound like the 'bad guy', as that wasn't what I meant at all! I just meant that I would like to see people use less harsh terms when it comes to talking about what they don't find physically appealing. Just dismissing someone as 'all out ugly' is just really uncomfortable for me to read-- mostly because, even if it's a character concept, there's still people out there that might personally prefer those appearances or have appearances similar to that. And I know that if I came into a thread and someone was saying "man, that short female character with dark hair and glasses is so damn ugly." I would be clicking the back button extremely quickly.
Admittedly how MMG retaliated after what I said, and then dismissed my wanting to avoid feeling uncomfortable as 'silly' hurt more than anything else concerning the matter. Though I'm sure she didn't mean to come across in such a manner, because she seems like an ultimately pleasant person, but it's difficult not to read it as such, especially when I wasn't expecting such an aggressive response because I thought I had succeeded in wording what I said in a way that wouldn't come across as nasty?
S-sorry for disrupting things!
Edit for clarification!
