And look at the backlash it caused on how Thane was treated in ME3. Believe me, they're not going to duplicate the same mistake.

True but Thane was dying anyway, so we knew he wouldn't have long left.

I think the only thing possibly protecting all the LI's is the fact that people can romance them in-game. Killing them off would be too risky and negatively affect the players personal story/canon. If they were to kill off one of them then a lot of people would prefer that their Warden/Hawke die with their choosen LI too... And then go mental on the forums and make a new "Retake" movement lol.

It's sad that they killed off Wynne, but a lot us expected that she'd probably died long before she actually did. DG mentioned that someone would die in the next comic featuring Isabela, Varric and Alistair and they also mentioned that Sten will be making an appearance. My prediction is that if it isn't Maric that dies, then it'll be Sten because he's an old non-romancable character, plus they won't kill off Varric, especially since he's still new and they'll want him as a cameo for DA3.

Plus people it would be very unwise of them to kill off past/present romancable characters in comics/books or beyond our control in-game because the choice to kill/save them should be ours. The only reason we couldn't save Thane was because he only had a few months to live anyway and I don't think the ME team fully realised how popular he would be.

I think at the moment it would be very unwise for the DA team to rock the boat. After all the controversy DA2 and ME3 created, not to mention the backlash with the SWTOR mmo, their best bet would be to make DA3 full of drama etc BUT the fates of our companions and protagonist should be optional like it was in DA:O. Don't get me wrong, I love a good tear jerker/dramatic moment but when it comes to the actions and survival of our created character and those in his/her care then the choice should be ours to make.

Damn straight! I'll be sad if they kill off any more of our companions, but I'll very upset and angry if they kill off Alistair, Cullen, Varric, Hawke or my Warden.

I'd like to think that through the ME3 vanilla endings, it will have reiterated to the DA team that people don't like rushed endings, or endings that leave the fate of the protagonist and companions unanswered.

Agreed. I want to be able to go "OMG no!" <<reload - do-over>> lol For instance, I would've liked the option to save Hawke's mom, as there was a way to "save" your sibling. Makes for better re-playing.

See, I want the "OMG NO NO NO DON'T DIE/LEAVE" moments where you think you can't save them, but then all of a sudden you get an option to save them, or they don't die if you do certain things (like a personal quest), or the companion that left comes back to save/help you later in the game and decides to stay with you after all. That way, I can switch things up with every playthrough.

That was something I loved about DA:O, even to this day I keep finding new things that I never experienced in any other previous playthroughs.

Funnily enough, for all it's flaws ME3 done that really well. There were so many edge of my seat moments where I thought one of my companions would die, only for them to dodge the bullet etc, that's what I hope DA3 will be like.

Omg, I just had a thought. You know there's a possibility that we might get a Grey Warden companion? Well, what if it turned out that it was Corypheus? In the DA2 Legacy DLC he possesses Janeka/Larius and then heads off back to the other Grey Wardens, what if somehow he manages to posess or mind control a Warden that becomes our companion? At first he seems really nice and helpful like a wise mentor figure but then eventually he ends up purposely leading our protagonist and companions into a dangerous life threatening situation but we'd have absolutely no idea that he's the bad guy until it's too late, maybe there would be very subtle hints like the way he talks etc but we'd never notice the first time round. It would also tie in nicely to the idea we had of having a companion who's really one of the main antagonists.

You're back on your "betrayer" kick, I see.

As long as the guy wasn't romanceable, sure.

Ew I hope not! We'd be technically shagging Corypheus, scary thought!

Lol I love the idea of a betrayer companion.

^ This. All of this. Betrayer companion, yes. Corypheus as LI, Hell NO!

That'd be pretty cool, to wonder about the intentions of your companion. It would be hard to write, tho. Trying to make it suspicious, but not obvious. Reminds me... is it Anders's sela petrae convo, where after a while you can ask the "WTF aren't you telling me?" questions? Sometimes it's hard to tell from vocal inflection alone, so the dialogue clues you in, but then hopefully in a non obvious way.

Like, the first time I watched Gosford Park my ear was still getting used to some of the strong English accents, so I um turned on the subtitles . American actor Ryan Phillippe is in it using a pretty poor english accent. But then there's a scene where it is apparently scripted for his character to accidentally drop the accent for a moment and then the other character discovers he's been faking the accent the whole time. Thing is ... I just figured his accent was bad because, you know, he wasn't the highest calibre of actor at the time. Luckily, they had a subtitle that said explicitly "(in american accent)blahblah" because otherwise, I don't think I would have noticed this plot point based on listening to the dialogue.

So to make a long story short (TOO LATE!), I hope they don't have to be that obvious.

I'm all about acting with the eyes. It's not as easy as it sounds so when you see it done well it's amazing to behold. So much can be said with out saying a word. (Sounds corny, but I remember one scene from the X Files where Mulder and Scully had this whole back and forth thing with the eyes that was brilliant.) I wonder if they would be able to pixelate this well enough for it to be effective in a turncoat plot line.

R2: I was thinking since Corypheus comes from a completely different era, the way he words things would be different, kinda like how he mentions about the way Hawke 'n' co speak prior to the fight. So I figured this new Warden mentor type companion would have a subtle way of speaking that is slightly different to everyone else, that at first glance we'd presume was because he's the ageing intellectual type, but really it's because it's Corypheus lol.

It's possible. They managed it at the end of DA2 between Hawke and Cullen.

Ok, did anyone here see Megamind? Because that's the first thing I thought of on this. lol

So let's streamline for a sec:
 - double agent / espionage companion that may or may not be a LI.
 - Shifty eye play.
 - Slips in accents and phrasing.

I'm liking where this is going. Get DG on the horn. We got us one of them there plotlines happenin'! lolImage IPB

That would be a good way to go about it, and at least with Larius, that was definitely the way  he gave himself away. I could also see a slip of lore, like something no one would know except that they'd been with the group who stormed the Golden City or something. Sooo many cool ideas there.

You know... wondering for the first time. How did Corypheus jump bodies anyway??? I mean, he's not a demon, right? He seemed to be able to call to the Carta, so he clearly has some kinda mind control/blood magic. Maybe he got special powers directly from Dumat?

I was at Uni all day.

Apparently, they're going to tackle open world exploration, like in Skyrim.

Should be interesting. When I first got the game, I invested about ten hours during the weekend I got it alone before I decided to go and tell the Jarl or Whiterun that there happened to be a dragon on the loose. Plus, I had a small freak out the Tuesday I went back to Uni, when a winged shadow flew over me. Happened to be a bird.

I'm just imagining something like that happening during DA3, and the entire group scrambling out to fight the dragon. :-D Poor Cullen, he has to deal with mages, and now freakin' dragons!

I flippin' love Skyrim and if it married DA3 I could die completely fulfilled.

Also, I love that you got PTSD from a game! Hahaha! I had the same issues after the first few days.... always looking for something to swoop down and eat me. And we all know swooping is bad! Image IPB
