This may be what they are talking about. Though I'm doubtful it can really be used as strong evidence in favor of Cullen. If I remember that example correct there was going to be a possible persuade check that Hawke would have to pass in order to see Bethany. Just my opinion though.

Agreed. It didn't happen in-game and was just a randomn example cooked up by DG to explain the process of writing quests for the game etc, so it doesn't count in favour of him since it was just a hypothetical.

I guess the only thing it does signify is the type of person DG sees Cullen as, which isn't all "RAWR! GTFO you can't see your sister and I'm gonna torture her", which seems to be a popular school of thought.

Nah, I like it. It shows his two sides: lawful templar v. compassionate person. The persuade check leans towards one, but the other is just as much as part of his character. It's what makes him so interesting.

Couldn't this basically be true for all of the party members with the Friendship/Rivalry system?

 I'm not really sure what you mean. Maybe I need an example :D

I can't recall him saying that either, apart from DG's tumblr post... sorry. But it is indeed cool that DG there openly displays him as a person instead of the populair image of a rabid lunatic, as Lola mentions XD

I wonder when these dev diaries and DA Keep thing is supposed to be happening? I'm desperate for some more information!

... Probably not helping myself listening to DA:O and DA2's soundtracks again, that's a sure fire way to make me even more antsy, lol.

Its been a while since I played DA2, but the easiest example I can give is the Anders friendship/rivalry when it comes to Justice. If we are friendly to Anders he accepts Justice as part of him, and will reject him is rivaled.

The same goes for Cullen, if we encourage mercy he tends to show it even though he appears to dislike this decision (just my opinion) , and will go more zealot if we encourage that.

While I have seen many posters that are fanatical when it comes to bashing Cullen, there are also a fair amount that dislike him for reasonable things. I personally don't see Cullen as a lunatic, I believe that he is a human being. However, I'm not a fan of him, due to the decisions I saw him make throughout DA2.

I think everyone in this thread knows that Cullen is far from perfect, nobody will argue this. But his imperfection makes him human, in my opinion.

You have to give the guy some sort of break though, I mean he went through hell in Ferelden, so some sort of anger towards mages is understandable.

Just wondering if people who got invitations to The Keep have been able to test it, yet? I know you can't tell us anything about it, but just wondering if there's been any activity on it, yet.

Nothing yet. They said they were going to send us an email with more details and get us to sign an NDA. They haven't sent it yet though.

Thanks, Lola. I was hoping that if people were already working on beta testing it, that would show that it's pretty close to being released. But I guess not. Maybe in the spring?

Oh okay. I still don't really see how that negates my point... that he wrestles between his lawful templar side and his compassionate side. That is what makes him such an interesting character.

Wait, if you're not a fan of Cullen, why are you here?

You don't have to be a fan to post in the Cullen thread. He/she is just starting a civil conversation.

Definitely.

I think it's cool that someone who isn't necessarily a fan is curious about him and is willing to have a civil debate. =]

if any of you are bored here is an article to read about "Dragon Age writer ponders romances; would you buy a BioWare game without sex? " altho I think they just copy paste what DG said on tumbler

There are definitely reasons to be annoyed with him. In trying to wrack my brain about the Beth comment, it made me recall that my very first Hawke reeeaaallly didn't like him. Taking Beth to the Circle was heart breaking, and Serenity Hawke definitely almost threw down.

But ironically, I don't think there are actually too many decisions Cullen actually gets to  make on his own in DA2. Until the end. Pretty much he's always influenced by either Meredith or Hawke.

But I do think you're right that in certain situations you can encourage him to be more extreme by your own extreme actions. Like in Best Served Cold you can tell him to go medieval on Alain or to spare him. His dialogue if you go medieval is pretty harsh. Also with Samson.

Something to keep in mind is that the thread was very specifically renamed a Discussion Thread for this very reason, not a Fan Thread.

I've been out, too  We're having the "ice-pocalypse" down here. School canceled for two days!!! The bridges are iced over, the roads are completely deserted... it's creepy. And COLD!!!! But, perfect excuse to head down the street to my sister's house, where I spent all day watching soccer and Dr. Who episodes :D

Which is fine, I guess, since I seem to be the new designated the jerk of the thread  *sighs* Maybe it's time for a break from the forums. Scrolling through the DA3 forums, it occured to me that it's the same 10-20 people posting over and over and over again. Spewing their own version of the perfect RPG game, or why BioWare is a terrible company, or (lately) (YET AGAIN) why Cullen and his fans are morons. And of course, that resulted in folks hunting down THIS thread and asking the same old questions as always. What's so special about Cullen? Why do you like him? Defend yourselves. Defend yourselves!!! Silly women with your Twilight obsessions!! Nanner nanner, girls are stupid, etc. etc.

This is usually a fun and safe space away from the madness, but it doesn't always feel that way lately. I'm sure it's just me :D But it seems like we recycle through the same discussions, too, and lately we seem to be turning on one another, which I don't really recall happening in the past. Are we going stir-crazy? Even if they throw us a bone and give us some news, we'll analyze it to death in less than 24 hours, then be back to square one again.

Anyway, I'm just thinking that perhaps in the future, if you don't like something someone says, a friendly PM wouldn't be amiss. I certainly never wish to give offense, especially to fellow Cullenites :) So if someone doesn't like what I said or how I said it, just let me know.

Omg you're down here too? It's madness, I say! I love snow, but dang if it doesn't beat us over the head when it comes!

And definitely the long wait is making people stir crazy. I know I'm becoming that way - I'm looking for other things to occupy my time. Pick up painting again, maybe.

...Who am I kidding, I'll just paint Dragon Age stuff all over the walls. XD *twitch*

I can barely go in the DA3 forum any more because of the same old demands, trolls, and conversations...

LOL I love that gif. Perfectly represents the BSN. Gahh.

Yes, I'm down south... no snow for us <_< Yesterday it was 50% chance. Today we waited... waited... waited... and nothing but ice. Ice, ice, ICE!!!! Everywhere lol (I'm in Louisiana, so the thought of snow sent everyone in paroxyms of joyful anticipation.) But I can imagine elsewhere folks are becoming a little sick of winter.

In other news... I just talked to Ruvena and the gang down at the Gallows. I'm off to hunt for Wilmod... and meet You Know Who :o

.... And it's over so fast :crying::lol:

But man... he's SUCH a good character! Sometimes, after all the arguing, and discussing, and fangirling, and what not, I forget how much I originally just really, REALLY liked this character.

And it's made me think about how likely it is he will be an NPC in DA:I again. And what a criminal waste that will be, because I'm starting to feel that his true development as a character would only happen if he were a companion, and we were able to get to know him. As an NPC, I suspect he will be very similar to his DA2 self. A good and noble man who distrusts mages, even though he may wish it could be otherwise. And so he will do everything he can do uphold the Circle and the Order.

Also, I'm genuinely impressed for the first time, really, what an excellent job GE does with him. I'm not saying I didn't think he was great before, but this scene just sort of made me blink and notice it. The longer you play a game, the more and more dated the graphics look (fact of life). I guess that just allows the voice acting to shine through even more.

Well if any of you are truly bored I do have a Justinia forum that's only 35 pages. I think I got most of the information, but I'm always looking for new theories about her.
