Oh great:
David Gaider: "David Gaider @davidgaider 3h
@Kodax_ShC @Mike_Laidlaw @BioMarkDarrah Were we watching you sleep? Like Cullen watching Bella? It could happen."
*Some *****: "@davidgaider @Kodax_ShC @Mike_Laidlaw @BioMarkDarrah Cullen watched the female Mage from Dragon Age while she slept, just throwing that out."
David Gaider: "@HamakerBen @Kodax_ShC @Mike_Laidlaw @BioMarkDarrah Cullen is creepy whatever the genre."
There's a (fairly good) chance I'm just a horrible person, but I found this pretty funny and didn't take it as indicative of anything about Cullen's real character.
See, I make this joke about
myself all the time, because yes, I watch people sleep - it's part of my job. (There have been several times when I've written a post on this thread in between doing bed checks.

) I work with people who can't be left safely unattended overnight. And thus in my work life I joke that I'm a creepy stalker all the time... but I'm not, it's just a joke, I'm actually their caretaker not their creeper.

I'm sure Cullen did watch Amell/Surana (and others) sleep. Watching mages is his job. Given how much damage a mage-gone-bad could do over the course of a night, I'm sure the Templars kept watch during the night as well as during the day.
All this to say, my reaction was more of a smile at topical Templar humor rather than concern about how the writers view Cullen.

I always found the female mage was the creepy one. At least when she took the "Hey I just spoke to you, and this is crazy, but let's get to know each other, so sleep with me maybe?" option.
Me too. It seemed pretty clear that the two of them hadn't had much previous interaction, and Cullen did have a crush and was distraught about the possibility of having to kill her... and she thinks that's a good moment to try to get him into bed? Without giving him any opportunity to warm up to the idea before tossing it at him out of the blue? Really?
People often seem to focus on Cullen running away from her, but that only happens if she propositions him. If she doesn't bring up sex, he'll just sweetly and slightly awkwardly offer to talk to her any time.
So yeah, to me Amell/Surana comes off as the weird one in that scenario, and Cullen seems shy but normal.

Admittedly, the thing I found hypocritical of Cullen was when he wanted to boot Keran out of the Order in case he had been possessed. Now, I get that he has to be wary and cautious, but baring in mind he went through the same ordeal for much longer and managed to stay strong and fight off the demon's offers you would have thought that he would have been a little more sympathetic, lol.
I found it hard to hold that against Cullen because my Hawke totally screwed up on that one too, and it was my (the player's) fault - I completely misread the situation.
I thought the writers' intention was that Keran
was possessed, because the way he was written didn't read as authentic trauma to me. As a result, his pleading came off to me as manipulative and calculating, and his pressing desire to get back into a position where he had power over others appeared to be predatory. My Hawke had him removed not because he
might housing a demon but because my Hawke (and I) sincerely thought that he
was.
I didn't realize the writers' intention was that he was supposed to be clean till a friend told me later. I wouldn't have perceived him as genuine short of meta-game knowledge, because the way the scenes were written just didn't work for me at all.
It's interesting (in a good way!) to me how different people can interpret the same scene wildly differently based our own individual filters.
