Well I'm glad somebody wishes they'd seen it the way I did.R2s Muse wrote...
HUh, I actually wish I'd seen a bit more of what you saw. In my pro-templar playthrough turning Keran in was the one choice that I just couldn't do, even for science. If I'd seen him as possibly manipulating Hawke et al., it would have made the choice more grey. Huh. Now I wonder what was behind those baby blues! LOL
For me, though, Keran's writing versus Cullen's writing when it comes to trauma is a huge contrast. Cullen is done pretty realistically. Keran... not so much, and that threw me.

just thinking out loud (er, as it were...), I wonder of it's also a bit of the voice acting. But it's funny how differently things can strike you.TreeHuggerHannah wrote...

Yeah! The voice acting was definitely a factor. As was the fact that the character model appears not to make a normal amount of direct eye contact (which could be just a function of the camera angle.)R2s Muse wrote...

It's also just partly me as player, though - my level of guardedness against manipulation is pretty high, and I see that sometimes in my gameplay decisions. /self-analysis

I had somehow gotten it into my head that Valentines Day was tomorrow. (I guess I had it mixed up with Groundhog Day? Oh, my brain...) So now I have to be patient again.

I thought the writers' intention was that Keran was possessed, because the way he was written didn't read as authentic trauma to me. As a result, his pleading came off to me as manipulative and calculating, and his pressing desire to get back into a position where he had power over others appeared to be predatory. My Hawke had him removed not because he might housing a demon but because my Hawke (and I) sincerely thought that he was.
I didn't realize the writers' intention was that he was supposed to be clean till a friend told me later. I wouldn't have perceived him as genuine short of meta-game knowledge, because the way the scenes were written just didn't work for me at all.
It's interesting (in a good way!) to me how different people can interpret the same scene wildly differently based our own individual filters.
This is one of my favorite scenes for Hawke (though not for Cullen because his personality sort of fades away for a bit so that you the player can decide what happens to Keran). It really depends on my Hawke. If I have a kind Hawke who is easily swayed (has his/her heart strings easily tugged upon) then s/he will be definitely stick up for Keran, ESPECIALLY if Anders, Merrill, or Bethany confirmed that Keran is free. However, if I have a more cautious Hawke, s/he will definitely err on the side of caution and say, even though Keran is innocent, there's no way to know if he's possessed (he may not even know it). It is just too dangerous to let something like that infiltrate the templars.
My current Hawke made this recommendation... it genuinely is the most rational decision. If I were Cullen, there's no WAY I'd let that kid back in. ESPECIALLY after having seen what happened to Wilmod!

Oh, man! I really wish it had turned out that Keran had been possessed when let back into the Order, I would've felt terrible for persuading Cullen to let him back in, but what a twist!

Then the demons start erupting out if the templars during the final battles in Act 3. At least then it would have made a bit more sense to me why there were already so many demons to fight in the city as you made your way to the Gallows. It was always so hard for me to justify why so many mages were loose.

Oh Keran... he gets me every time with those blue puppy eyes... I have rejected him only once, and felt horribly guilty afterwards.
