It's not pre-Asunder though, it's post. DAI is taking place shortly after the events of Asunder.eluvianix wrote...
Pre-Asunder, though, I doubt we have red templars. The only ones who knew about the Primeval Thaig, and more specifically the red lyrium, would have been Bartrand, maybe Meredith, Hawke's gang, and the Wardens. With Lambert currently "MIA", I can see post-Asunder some splinter factions of Templars hunting down red lyrium. I doubt that Lambert himself would support the use of red lyrium.LolaLei wrote...
Not if there was a cover up. With Hawke gone AWOL and his companions likely avoiding dealing with the law, who's left to take the blame? Cullen. Would the Templar Order really want to admit that one of their own went bat **** crazy on red lyrium? Especially if the rebelled templars are the ones now huffing it. Cover it up and they've got themselves sole access to the red stuff.
Blah, I can't be arsed to go into details or go through the whole theory again, we've spoken about it so much in here that I'm bored of it.

Yeah, post-Asunder. So it was about a year or so after the events of DA2... I think. I should probably refresh myself on the timeline, my brains gone to sh!t, lol.Lord Xendria wrote...
Is it post-Asunder when Cassandra is interrogating Varric? I remember time had passed and it seemed like despite that time, no one was getting the story right. Any number of things could have happened. We'll just have to wait and see... but I still love best the idea of breaking Cullen outta jail. Now that would be a fun time.

Based on the Dragon Age Timeline, it is 9:37 when Anders blows up the Chantry. Cassandra's interrogation of Varric happens in 9:40, same year as Asunder.

I think Asunder takes place 3 years after the end-game events. They seem to like doing 3 year things.

One thing to keep in mind is that no one seems to know what actually happened in Kirkwall. If Cassandra has had to resort to interrogating folks like the Varric, then at least the Powers That Be, i.e. the Chantry and the Seekers, seem to think Hawke had some kind of sinister plan in taking out Meredith. Given the lack of information, and the fact that no one seemed to have asked Cullen, i.e. an eye witness who works for the Chantry, it seems highly likely that no one knows what happened from his point of view. Which allows room for Scapegoats Galore. Looking for a fall guy? Who better than the Knight Captain who rebelled against his superior?eluvianix wrote...

Right, cause when I read Asunder, I thought, Lambert, now that's a reasonable guyeluvianix wrote...
I doubt it. I think that even Lambert would have seen the necessity in striking down Meredith, cause she was plain bashi*t crazy by that point.
Well, I never said the guy wasn't a monumental ass, but he would have seen Meredith's obvious insanity as liability, and Cullen was in the right by trying to relieve her of her duties. It wasn't Cullen's fault that she chose to react violently.
So lots of things could have happened as a result. I just hope we get to find out why no one asked Cullen what happened. Or if they did ask, why didn't they believe him.

Yes, the interrogation is 9:40, i.e. a decade after the game begins, so same year as Asunder, but also after the events of Asunder, as Varric references the templar split from the Chantry.eluvianix wrote...

The way I think about it is that each act takes place essentially in the blink of an eye. 9:30: the blight and Hawke leaves Ferelden, a year later the blight ends and Hawke's servitude ends (9:31). She does Act 1 (and basically zero time passes), and then interlude one is three years long, taking us to 9:34. Act 2 happens, Hawke becomes Champion, all in the blink of an eye. Three year interlude, takes us to 9:37, Chantry goes boom, Hawke splits Kirkwall/becomes Viscount then splits Kirkwall. Another 3 years later, Cassandra has caught up with Varric (9:40). It's the only way I can sanely keep it straight in my head. The 9:34 and 9:37 dates are hardcoded though in the codices and such. (edit: altho don't get me started on the relative dates *within* the Asunder novel, which are mostly wrong).Lord Xendria wrote...
Doesn't help when they make timelines that make no sense to me. Like how the Blight was ended in 1 year, but then how long did Awakening take? And Anders was already in Kirkwall, blah blah.. And Hawke was in Kirkwall for 7 years, but the trophies/achievements specifically word it as a year passing between each act, for example: "For each year in Kirkwall, find 3 notes from the Band of Three" or whatever.. Makes my head hurt.
I think Asunder takes place 3 years after the end-game events. They seem to like doing 3 year things.Yep, 3.

Sounds like you're set, and at least one of these has been mentioned, but for the completeness, I've also used the following two, which are good for someone like Cullen. Particularly the first one, which I can only assume contributed to the name of the Asunder novel.ag99 wrote...

Maker, though the darkness comes upon me,
I shall embrace the light. I shall weather the storm.
I shall endure.
What you have created, no one can tear asunder.

Though all before me is shadow,
Yet shall the Maker be my guide.
I shall not be left to wander the drifting roads of the Beyond.
For there is no darkness in the Maker's Light
And nothing that He has wrought shall be lost.

The Dragon Age wiki actually has a really good timeline for the Dragon Age...or at least the best I've seen so far lol. From what I understand Origins started shortly before Lothering falling, but within the same year and was finished prior to Hawke meeting Varric within the same year that Origins ended Awakening happened over an unknown amount of time, but not a year. I'll find it for you since it made my head hurt too
Edit: The Timeline http://dragonage.wik...ge_(time_period)

We know in the prologue of DA2 that the wardens have already left the Lothering when Flemeth meets the Hawkes, per Flemeth's remark. It took 2 weeks for the ship the Hawkes took from Gwaren to reach Kirkwall, but we don't know how long it was before they left Gwaren. The real head-explode moment for me, though, is when Anders shows up. The Blight concludes at some point during Hawke's year of servitude and then Awakening occurs. We don't know how long it takes to complete Awakening, but the real problem is when does it start? For the HNF marrying Alistair, it wouldn't occur until 6-8 months following the conclusion of Origins (wedding occurs six months later and then the touring of the bannorn). So, given that, Anders wouldn't have left Ferelden until almost a year after the end of the Blight. So how can he be in 2 places at the same time?

It's like they, themselves, forget what they've said.
And Witchhunt, sources can't make up their minds. Some say a year after Origins some say 2 and a half, most say it takes place -after- Awakening, and lots of things say Awakening is 6 months after Origins.
Yes... headcanons.
